Which games disappointed you most in 2018?
Was it how Fallout 76 was handled, Past Cures boring level design or how the devs of The Quiet Man decided the game should only be understood by people who can read lips because there is neither audio nor subtitles for spoken text?
What is your worst game that came out last year?

From what I've played it has to be Fallout 76 but I thought that was going to be bad anyways but was peer pressured into buying it by some friends.

At it's core the design just seems off, the pacing and almost everything that made Fallout an interesting game ceased to exist due to everything being delivered by voice tapes. So all that is left is janky combat that gets worse in a MP environment due to lag and then large amount of bugs that block progress or cause major issues during a multiplayer session.

I don't know, I just found playing it to be super bland the only moment I had that I enjoyed was laughing at my friends character when he bugged out and his limbs were twice their size. Everything else was super forgettable.

As a rare guy who actually enjoyed The Quiet Man, allow me to make a small correction.
That's not the point, at all, of the game. And it's not true that the game doesn't have audio nor subtitles.

When I finished the game at launch, at the end I was greeted to a countdown that pointed to an update that was released exactly one week after the game was launched, and that added a different play-through option. Like it or not (clearly many people didn't) this was done by design. They expected you to play through the game, and make your version of the events you went through.
When I launched the game after the update, I was greeted to an epilogue that changes everything you though you understood about the story of the game, and then it starts a second playthrough with both audible dialogues, and subtitles.

So, indeed the game forces you to play through the game once struggling to understand what everyone is saying, so that you get a certain idea of what is happening, only for you to reach the epilogue, and then play through it with audible dialogues, and you'll understand how wrong you actually were.

From everyone's reactions, it seems asking people to play through a short game without dialogues once was too much to ask.
But, outside of that, it's a beat'em up, with live action footage. Not sure I understand all the disdain it received, the game is not that bad.

Interesting, I didn't know that - thanks for the correction!

I don't think I bought any disappointing game this year, and I'll keep doing that, hopefully

all F76 shenanigans were fun to follow from outside.

What is your worst game that came out last year?
So is it about worst games or about biggest dissapointments?
Thats different question altogether , despite game journous mixing them together. :imp:
Game can be bad ,but doesnt dissapoint as you never expected it to be good and on other hand game can heavily dissapoint you despite not being badper se.

Probably got to be Fallout 76 purely from a technical point of view regardless of game quality. I'm not going to lie though, I had a blast with the beta but just knew to hold off until sometime this year for the full game. I'm waiting for the game to reach that magic £5 mark on cdkeys and then I will buy and with no shame, play the ever loving shit out of it :p

Honestly, I didn't expect much from Fallout 76. Didn't like the idea of it being online to begin with so I was never all that disappointed that it turned out terrible. I'm glad it did... so it doesn't happen again.

What disappointed me the most was Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I expected Origins, but a step up. That's what the reviews had me believe. But it felt like more of the same.

MMO-esque fetch quests littered throughout the map. Characters I didn't care much about. Combat that felt floaty and weightless. A setting that was just a bit too similar to Origins. More copy paste enemy camps that all play out exactly the same.....

I just couldn't get into it. And I wanted another RPG to play. I disliked it so much that I just went back and played The Witcher 3 again. And I'm loving it.

Bear with me everyone.. I don't very often play bad games, especially on the year they are released (huge backlog)

The worst game of 2018 for me was Insurgency: Sandstorm. It released in a disguised early access, lacking content, optimisation, full of numerous game breaking bugs.. you get the picture..

I've got around twenty hours of fun out of it, but that's about it. Until the game receives a much needed optimisation patch, I'd steer clear.

I review games, so I just looked over what I wrote last year, and I would have to narrow it down to two: Bus Simulator 18 and Happiness Drops!

The first because it's not really my kind of game, but the devs were oddly insistent that we review it. Lol
The second because it had the most hilariously bad localization job I've ever seen. The game itself isn't completely terrible, just had an odd difficulty curve.

An honorable mention (before I forget about it) is a game my wife reviewed early this year, called Gear.Club Unlimited 2, for Switch. The physics are so terrible, and in multiplayer mode, we made both of the cars get stuck or float off! With a racing game, if the feel of the racing is off, nothing you can do can save it. It's truly terrible.

Of all the games I purchased and played last year it would be easy to just sit and pick Fallout 76 apart in multiple ways. The game was and is still arguably utter shit. With that out of the way I still laugh and have fun with it when I play with friends so looking back through my playlogs over the year I would have to say the most disapointing game is Fear the Wolves. It was beta when I tested it and early beta at that. The game has so much potential and could do so well for a low budget PUBG ripoff that bleeds out Eastern Bloc post Soviet Stalker vibes and the play team totally screwed it up.

Yeah I deserve to be taunted for not saying Fallout 76 but at the end of the day if I can open a beer and laugh at the stupid happening on screen with my friends after a hard day then it has to be doing something right even if its the experience of being so bad that makes it so good. I was on the fence about saying Assasins Creed Odyssey but honestly with UBI games you know exactly what you are getting. Each release is a more finely tuned version of the previous game with very little risk taking when it comes to design decisions as they have a formula that works.

I have around 100 hours in Odyssey..

And I agree with you.

What keeps me going is the fact that I really like Kassandra and her wonder woman outfit, I like greece, and there is occasional good quest here and there. And I skipped Origins so I was not "full" yet.

But yeah. So much copypaste it's ridiculous. If they cannot create enough unique content, they need to make smaller games.

I don't even know to be honest. I think I had the most miserable time with Fallout 76 but that was due to the game being basically Fallout 4 with multiplayer aspect. I'm going to say something brave... If you liked Fallout 4 there's no reason why you wouldn't like Fallout 76.
