About:

X4: Foundations is the latest title in the popular X series of space simulation / sandbox games, played as action games from a first-person perspective in a living breathing universe, with TRADE FIGHT BUILD THINK as the common tag-line. X4: Foundations is unique in its depth, simulating an entire universe of NPC ships and stations, forming a realistic economy. It consists of a huge universe, simulated from the bottom up. Hundreds of stations, and thousands of ships, trade goods among themselves. Prices change based on supply and demand; resources are mined and processed in several stages. This economy is linked directly to the simulation of major conflicts in a universe with dynamically-acting factions. Every player decision can dramatically change the future of the game universe. Step in and live your very own space adventure!

X4: Foundations has been significantly enlarged with its 4.0 Update – this is the perfect time for space game enthusiasts to newly discover or revisit the biggest space sandbox this side of the galaxy! Jump into your ship and experience completely new features such as Terraforming, new options for managing hostilities, improved fleet control, and a new emergency eject feature. On the technical side, the 4.00 update brings volumetric fog effects, improves the fading-in of asteroids, and adds a visual shield impact effect.

An ambitious, complex sandbox space game that allows you to do almost anything from spacewalking to commanding a carrier with a fleet of ships onboard.
GameTyrant said:
X4 has been more approachable than any space sim game I have previously attempted and I enjoy the variety of things to do. I have already spent an insane amount of time playing X4 and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.
Destructoid said:

Foundations is more of the same niche-scratching space exploration from previous iterations with a more immersive feel and I can't wait to dive back into my personal galaxy. For those that have been watching the X series from the outside, Foundations is a great entry point, provided you meet the beefy system requirements.

This series should be right up street, but I've never got into it for some reason.
Pretty sure I own the first 3 games on STEAM

Hey, my first thread!

Anyone else playing this? I picked it up a few weeks ago after having it in my wishlist a few years. Previously I've played X3: Terran Conflict, X3: Albion Prelude and X: Rebirth and this game really blows them all out of the water!

Sure, there's lot of moving parts and you have to learn a lot about the game by yourself (or Youtube tutorials) but the scale of game is awesome!
And you get going A LOT faster than you ever did in X3 for example. Missions aren't incredible hard to complete in the starting ship and they reward you handsomely, so you can build a nice little fleet of ships in just a few hours of gameplay!

As someone who greatly preferred X3:TC or X3:AP over X: Rebirth, this game is a return to form. I haven't encountered any bugs as of yet either, so fingers crossed!

So, I'm playing the "Young Gun" start, and I am slowly starting my empire. I've got a trader ship running around, and a few miners. Also, the PHQ quest is almost complete.

I'm mostly doing quests for the Argon currently, and also checking out the Hatikvah Trading faction.

Some screenshots I took this weekend:

A new DLC was announced a couple of days ago!

Release date: Q1 2022

Encountering and interacting with previously unknown, lawless pirate and scavenger factions, will challenge your perception of social order and justice in the X universe. In new sectors and dangerous regions, you will not only discover new ships and stations, but also encounter stellar phenomena that will significantly influence your plans and actions. What is it all about, and who are the mysterious manipulators that have learned to master a rare and vital resource? Your journey will lead you towards the answers. Set out and discover a new chapter of X4: Foundations.
The DLC will also launch along side the free 5.0 update.

The 5.00 update introduces a series of new capital ships. These ships have been re-imagined, and a new fleet of improved models will now be on sale in various shipyards. Several factions in the game will gradually start using these new and improved ships. The 5.00 update will also bring AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR) to X4: Foundations, using a collection of cutting-edge upscaling technologies to boost performance.

Looks really good, hopefully it can be the trigger to get me really stuck into the game.

I do need to get over myself and play this seriously because I keep starting and putting it down again because its not "more X3." It usually infuriates me when something is janky or I can't work out how to do something that should be simple. Then me and my poor temper means it gets uninstalled before I give it a real chance.

Having said that, I barely played that X3 mod/conversion Farnhams Legacy before sticking it back on pile of games that I want to play but need to be in the mood for.

Looks amazing. I'm always too intimidated to get into this series.
I personally believe X4 is easier to get into than the earlier entries in the series.
You can easily jump into the game and just fly around and complete missions, before attempting any of the empire-building if you so want.

I loved X2 and X3 but that weird one they released kind of put me off the series. As i understand it X4 is a bit of a return to form so maybe ill pick it up one day.

I remember in X2 (or 3) getting a little mining operation running with a mine on an asteroid and a processing plant etc which was fun, took ages to save credits etc.

I also remember the very first time firing up X2 and you have to fly your ship to a gate and so i set off and it looked like it was going to take 8 days to get to the gate, i didn't realise there was a time compression button so i sat there for about 15mins thinking 'well this is shit'. Ultra realism!

It's much easier to gain credits in X4 compared to earlier games IMO. You quickly gain funds through a few missions to be able to set up some simple mining ships to get some nice passive income.
