“Next year has so many amazing games!”
“But you say this every year!”
Well, it is true. There are many amazing games coming out every year, but 2025 is destined to be a fun year with the release of GTA6 (unless delay happens) and Switch 2. Following the traditions from previous years, it’s time for you to tell us your most anticipated games of 2025!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The initial reveal of Expedition 33 was absolutely shocking. “Meh another soul-like” I said. Then, the turn-based combat was shown, and it changed everything. For a few days I couldn’t get the game out of my head. The graphics, the art, the music, the combats, everything seems to activate my neurons perfectly. So good.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

I put in 150 hours into the Wii U version but ultimately did not finish it. It was mind-blowing that there are so many content in this game. In addition, in my opinion Planet Mira is still one of the best open worlds ever. I will play this on Switch 2 and hopefully that machine is going to provide an enhanced experience to us.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Yep, the most boring choice. I love GTA. But I think it will be delayed

There is also a number of titles that I want to play, but need more information before getting hyped, such as Fable and South of Midnight. Remasters like Tales of and Lunar are coming and I look forward to those as well. In addition, the launch line-up of Switch 2 should be exciting and may change the current landscape completely. Overall, 2025 is going to be fun. I can't wait!

So much cool looking stuff scheduled for next year.

For me though, GTA 6 is head and shoulders above everything else. I absolutely cannot wait for that game and I really, really hope it doesn't get delayed into 2026.

Next is Monster Hunter Wilds. So excited to play that game.

One of my most anticipated games as of now is actually Nightreign. As most of the regulars here probably know (do we even have non-regulars?), co-op is my favourite part of Souls games, so co-op focused Souls sounds great.
I am a bit concerned about spell and build variety, since that's my other favourite part of the games, but we'll see.

I haven't played a western single player RPG in a bit, and while the first trailers of Avowed didn't convince me, Obsidian still has a base level of trust with me. And more recent information sound like they really are focusing on the types of things I appreciate in my RPGs.

Also, as is tradition, I'll say "Silksong" in each of these threads. It has to eventually release at some point, right?

On second thought, let's also add a cool looking Metroidvania that actually has a chance of releasing.

GTA is the obvious biggest for me, I mean I have usually bought consoles just for that series, hell I even got the PS5 Pro with the new GTA in mind.

Then I do really look forward to play Civ 7 and Avowed. I have a wait and see approach to them, I haven't look at videos of either just to have a fresh experience with them.

Next year I will try to deal more with my backlog, I already have bunch of RPGs to play on my new Mac!

Clair Obscur and Suikiden I&II were posted already, so I'll write about the one game I'm expecting the most that hasn't been announced yet, but come on the timing is now
The next Super Robot Wars. There is so much riding on this title (which doesn't even have a title). Is the next SRW going to be region free on Steam like it's predecessor? Is the next SRW going to be released on consoles worldwide like the last 2 Gundam games? Is the next SRW going to be translated in EFIGS like the last 2 Gundam games? Is the next SRW going to be dubbed in english like the last Gundam game? All of these answers will tell the fans what is Bamco expecting from the series, which then turns into what fans will have to expect for the future
I'm also very interested in the Fate/Extra remake, for similar reasons. Fate (or Type-Moon in general) has been a latecomer in the west, and especially on Steam. This remake will also be shaped by how the other TM games did. So what expectations will we see? It's also curious that Bamco is also publishing it, which is a pretty good indicator there are some increased expectations on this title
I would also like to see the future of Ace Combat. It's been almost 6 years since AC7, surely the next game has to be ready by now?

1) Kingdom Come: Deliverance II - sequel to one of the most immersive and design-rich RPGs ever made, that also happens to be made by extremely talented team. I think it is also the only larger scale game ever made that features Czech protagonist.

2) Gothic: Remake
- Gothic was a masterpiece for 2002, and from the latest showcase it seems Alkimia has the remake well in hand. I particularly can't wait for the new quests, since Enderal's talented writer worked on those.

3) Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
- Bloodlines 2 has had extremely tumultuous development, and I would be lying if I said I am expecting a masterpiece, but even if it is "just a pretty good game" I am still excited because there are so few urban-based RPGs set in present days. And hey, maybe they will recapture at least 10% of what made original game so brilliant.

4) Mafia: The Old Country

5) Dying Light: The Beast

6) Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

7) Fable

8) Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

9) Crimson Desert

10) Industria II

Honorable mentions: TLOU P2 PC, FF7 Rebirth PC

I might also mention Stalker 2, since after the messed up launch I decided to just wait until it is complete, with all updates and DLCs, so maybe it will be 2025, or 2026 game..

I did not put in GTA6, because that game is barely coming for consoles next year and definitely not for PC. We know how twat-like Rockstar is.

For me, going by my wishlist, these are the most interesting to me with a tentative 2025 release date:

Will get these almost without a second thought unless there are very good reasons to wait:
  • The Last of Us Part II • been wanting to play this for ages, glad its coming to PC; even if I've seen spoilers years ago already
  • The Outer Worlds 2 • I really liked The Outer Worlds! Looking forward to this sequel.
  • Showa American Story • this has been on my 2022, 2023 and 2024 lists already. I hope they finally get to release it.

Will most likely get these:
  • Old Skies • this has been on my 2023 and 2024 lists already. The demo was a lot of fun.
  • SPINE - This is Gun Fu • it looked like fun in a trailer I saw for gamescom or something
  • Mandragora • The demo from the Steam Next Fest was great. I could already buy this, they have an unlabeled early access of sorts: when you buy it, you get access to Act I immediately.
  • Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream • Isometric stealth game with a very cool setting
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 • Despite this being turn-based to some degree, the trailer looked very cool and Im looking forward to it a lot now.
  • Mafia: The Old Country • I quite liked the Mafia I remake, and this is a very cool setting

Will keep an eye on these and check reviews:

I'm also not including GTA 6, since its surely gonna be a 2026 or later release on PC. But I am looking forward to it.

In comparison, my 2024 list and what happened to those games (in the 2024 thread, I also did a look back at 2022 and 2023):
Horizon Forbidden West PC • played it, loved it.
Phantom Fury • played it, liked it. It had a bunch of bugs and some other problems, but it was still enjoyable for me.
Avowed • still on the list for 2025
Tiny Glade • played it, liked it. Its a chill mini-town builder, relaxing and cute
Europa • played it a bit, but its one of those game that I play for an hour and have enough
Nightingale • didnt buy or play it
Nivalis • still on the list for 2025
Reka • didnt buy or play it
Old Skies • still on the list for 2025
Greedfall 2 • didnt buy/play it
Showa American Story • still on the list for 2025
Dustborn • didnt buy/play it (the demo didnt convince me)
Hijod • still on the list for 2025
Phantom Hellcat • still on the list for 2025
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II • didnt buy/play it
Enotria: The Last Song • didnt buy/play it (the demo didnt convince me)
Clockwork Revolution • not yet out, still on my wishlist somewhere
South of Midnight • not yet out, but the latest trailer felt a lot less interesting
No Rest for the Wicked • didnt buy/play it

Probably a few but the only one that is dominating my thoughts at the moment is Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive, i legitimately can't wait to see if the DiskBomb Lailah Queen Skel is still amazingly OP amongst other things. Damn i love this game.

DiskBomb Lailah Queen my beloved.

I would suggest looking into civ 7 to see some of the changes they're bringing to the formula. There are some seriously big things that are being changed from previous entries and right now I don't think anyone knows if these new ideas will make for a better game.

I'm mostly waiting for stuff I already have to leave early access so I can finally play (Beastieball / Gloomwood / Swordhaven / Wandering Village).
Or stuff that I've backed to get some sort of release (Mina the Hollower / Peripeteia / Crowsworn).

As for new games, there's not a lot that caught my eye as a must-have so the list isn't long
  • Citizen Sleeper 2
  • Menace
  • Earthblade
  • Kriegsfront Tactics

I don't really think 2025 will be a particularly great year for the types of games I gravitate towards. We'll see.
