To the surprise of absolutely nobody. Control is coming to GamePass because it "didnt reach enough people" (it bombed). They likely just finalized the deal recently because they would have 100% announced this at X019 otherwise.

Bloodstained came to both PC and Xbox so I wonder if it'll be the same here.

Its not view botted. Epic or Deep Silver paid for a ton of ad space. So even if people skip the ad it still counts towards the views. Epic has done it a few times now. Star Wars Fallen Order's Fortntie promo and Observation are the 2 I can think of but there was one EGS exclusive that had 7 million views on its trailer but only 600 likes.

Watched a tiny bit of Phoenix Point Gameplay and it is really broken. Not because of bugs, but because the fps style aiming isn't doing the Gameplay any favor. Even ChristopherOdd is running into problems like e.g. full cover blocking your line of sight, despite the game telling you that you should be able to hit (and you should).

It's impossible to understand if you'll have line of sight or not. It may sound like hyperbole but this makes an X-Com style game unplayable. It's the equivalent of way too small or too big hitboxes in an fps.

I like to joke about it, but thank you Epic. I've dogged another bullet, because as an X-Com fan I would have bought this day one.

edit: It's hard to imagine the developers didn't encounter those problems themselves. They just shipped a game with a system that's not working. I beginn to understand why some people are ragging against the game.

And more and more epic exclusives are turning out to be rather bad games.

Me too. Epic has definitely helped me to get passed the 'got to have it day one' part of video games collecting. Coupled with the shear amount of quality games releasing outside of egs.

Saddest thing is that the devs don't even bother to delay their games, despite being paid in advance by Epic.

maybe epic has something in their contract that prevents devs from delaying the game too much ... like maybe they can only delay it by a month or two max and then have to release it ... or something

They probably have a estimated date on the contract that the pubs/devs must abide to or at least ask permission to any delays, but my guess is that pubs/devs just want to rush the game out as soon as possible so the countdown to the end of the exclusive period begins.

Maybe release date is set in stone, because the date the games are allowed to be sold on other launchers is also set in stone? And Epic wants at least 365 days exclusivity (or whatever was negotiated).
Let's also not forget, Epic is prebuying copies and not giving away free Cheques. Epic might be interested in certain games releasing for the holiday season so those pre bought copies can be sold through to people.

In the end, it doesn't matter. Constant bad exclusives mean an increase in negative associations with Epic. Add Fortnite hiccups and the new Rocket League price gauging into the mix and Tim is making us a nice present.
 
Considering Ooblets, according to its own developers, blew through all its publisher’s money even with a console exclusivity contract (and we’ve heard nothing of it since the EGS announcement,) I’ve wondered what would happen if you took an Epic contract and then just cancelled the game. Or intentionally released a shitty one you barely worked on.
 
New Nathan Grayson article on the state of PC gaming. I'm not going to link it, you know where to find it if you care to read it (at least turn ad block on). You can pretty much guess by now how it went.

-Mostly bashing steam for the year they've had including bringing up things from 8 months ago that no one remembers now. To be fair some of it is important to talk about but the key thing is he did not bring up any of EGS' failures specifically like missing all of their deadlines on the chart (in fact he praises them for being transparent by simply having a chart...) or forcing devs to crunch to add a BL3 preload right before launch.

-Very selective memory being displayed. He was quick to mention the ooblets controversy because of the devs but did not mention Darq's dev and the stance he took. He did not mention any of Sweeney's tweets that stoked fires even more.

-No mention of Bungie coming to steam which revitalized Destiny 2. EA going to steam gets a mention but at the very bottom under "Other Launchers" section that no one will see. No mention of three kingdoms total war which was the biggest PC launch of the year. No mention of notable indies like Disco Elysium. In fact there's really nothing useful in here if you actually did care to find out a lot of what happened this year in PC gaming. Most of the article is steam bad and EGS may suck as a store for now but it's still the savior of PC gaming.

nah, they problably received money but are unsure about the long term viability of the project so prefer to start receiving extra funds asap. Games such as Phoenix Point and Mechwarrior have been delayed.

The only one that seems to be "contractual obligation" is Rune 2, which was dropped and then the studio dissolved.

Yeah, I found it odd, that the dude from Ancestors practically said that he was forced to rush the PC port out. While the PS4 Version was not yet released.
 
Didn't Epic say that they can only release two games a week on EGS? And that there's no room for other games? If a game is being delayed, this probably f*cks up their tight release schedule.

How are the "Early Access" titles doing on EGS? when Satisfactory launched it was pretty barebones, are they still adding to the game?
 

I remember when at some point we had the suspicion Disco Elysium was about to jump ship to EGS since initially, it was to be published by Humble. I'm glad that the game found its fame (Currently reviewing at Overwhelmingly Positive with 5K+ reviews), and rightly so. Because they won't be so lucky with EGS otherwise.

From what i can see the Satisfactory's development is slow. There were only two content updates + bugfixes. Other Early Access games on Steam are better with their updates.

So RDR2 peaked at 12k on steam? EGS sales are probably even lower?
About 15k when I checked. As I said on the other forum, given how they discounted it less than a month after release is hardly an indicator of a good performance on other launchers, and I'll be surprised if EGS amounts for more than 15-20% of sales.

It's also not an EGS situation, most people are fine with buying a first party game, from a first party launcher, especially at heavily discounted VPN prices or from cdkey.com for 38€. Just saying.
I was just curious if steam will be beating egs despite all those things and an important headstart window.

Well, my guess is 15k concurrent players still mean around 100k actual purchases which isn't bad for a single-day sales given the circumstances. The narrative on the other place is obviously different though, but it's a place where you can say "Fuck Valve" witout any repercussions while saying the same thing about say, Sony, will result in a neat half a month long ban, so, that's not surprising.
 


If anyone sees a review from someone knowledgeable about the series and joystick controls and stuff lemme know. Curious how the Steam release will be :P
 

After one bad launch for Red Dead Redemption 2 with its PC debut on Rockstar and Epic’s stores in November, I had thought Rockstar might make the most of the second chance for a smooth launch presented by its belated Steam release last night. They have not. Along with the crashing and performance issues still suffered by all players, the Steam release seems to have even developed new issues. It’s also more clear quite how common the old issues are, now the game is on a store which has user reviews. Oh dear.

R* was always a joke in regards to pc launches. that fact alone is why I'm not getting RDR2 or any other future R* game on pc. Keep in mind, these are the same guys who waited nearly ten years to fix the helicopter qte glitch only to remove a bunch of music in the same patch. The same guys who are now chasing the online microtransaction money.

I'm fully aware it can be a disaster of a game going by their MWO, it just looks pretty good and unlike MWO, hence wanting in depth reviews to see what's what.

Couldn't care less about RTX stuff though. But hopefully the VR possibilities they mentioned early on will eventually happen if the core of the actual game is ok.
