But, I really don't get buying a game with a minimal amount of adult content, and getting dozens and dozens of lame games recommended to me as a result.
Surely, there has to be a middle ground.
Especially when, on the opposite side, I buy pretty much every FMV game I can find on Steam, and I don't remember having a single one recommended to me.
I haven't done the "math" this year like I did in some of the previous ones, but I does appear that my Discovery Queue took a serious hit in quality, and I do have "Free-to-Play" filtered out, otherwise Destiny 2 would be fucking everything up, because when Steam decides to fixate on a single game you played... you're screwed.

Today I got 3 crappy hentai on the queue because they were "popular" and similar to Huniepop, a game played (yeah.. shame on me :p) in 2015. While I did play some other games with nudity (I don't think anything explicit) the vast majority is other type of games.

I also have been playing a lot of Destiny 2, even though I usually don't play a lot of multiplayer-only games. That has understandably influenced my recommendations. The problem is that I can't correct that by filtering out "multiplayer" because that is way to generic tag.

So yes, a middle ground and more control would greatly appreciated. Some way I can say to Steam: "look, I don't want to you stop completely from showing me adult games, but can you weight them a little less in comparison with the other ones". Or at least better tags and filtering system so I can filter out multiplayer only games for example.

EDIT:
Just saw the quest for tokens today.... man, Valve really wants people to know about their chat system :)

What if you ignore those specific games you actually own/played, clearly it won't recommend them regardless as you own them but then it shouldn't take them in account for the recommendation queues either so try that. I mean that was the point of adding the "played on another platform" option thing, to ignore a game yet still take it in consideration for the recommendations, so I assume the previous existing ignore option is to make it, not. No? Edit: the description of the options basically says this is so, therefor by ignoring huniepop and destiny 2 it shouldn't recommend games based on you guys having played those any more.

What if you ignore/block those specific games you actually own/played, clearly it won't recommend them regardless as you own them but then it shouldn't take them in account for the recommendation queues either so try that. I mean that was the point of adding the "played other store version" option thing, to ignore a game yet still take it in consideration for the recommendations, so I assume the previous existing ignore option is to make it, not. No?
You're right. That is the description.
Ignore This (Default)
Hide from store, ignore notifications, and don't use this to generate other recommendations.
Doesn't help me with Destiny 2 because I'm still playing it, so I do want to get notifications for example. Otherwise I think you can use it o nuke something bad. But the problem in general for me is if I want to Steam to recommend me less of something, but not write it off completely. A better example was I think last year that because I played Nights of Azure in the beginning of the year, during the winter sale it appeared on a lot of the games on my queue in the "similar" category, including several of those crappy adult ones. I actually enjoyed the type of game (despite the fan-service) so I don't want to click the "ignore". Just a... "show me less of this".

I wonder how many people are getting VR headsets and buy games on Steam.

I personally am, as long as the store page says "Oculus Rift", I buy it on Steam.

No way in hell Im getting locked to the Oculus ecosystem.

Pretty much everyone (not really, but tons still). Hence Oculus have a ~50% VR market ratio on Steam.
The next surveys should be interesting to see if anything changed with the new hype wave with alyx, quest link and the general holiday spending spree too.

I had posted these guys' thing in the VR thread but forgot non VR folk can also just ask for the game on Steam and then not play it in VR since it's not VR Only.

Blue Reflection is pretty fun.
Though I find it amusing how they made a progression system without exp but still managed to include a way to grind, lol.
Also it's the horny kind of magical girl, not the wholesome one (actually less the magical girl side and more the regular school-life stuff)
In case I missed a time zone, merry Christmas MC folks

That wet blouse transparency is extremely dumb. Like, it wasnt necessary at all.
Both of you need to play Ar Tonelico.

Erm.....My discovery queue offered me this....

It showed up for me as well, it seems that this dev also did that one waifu terrorist game or what ever it's called. Point being that the dev has other games on Steam that look similar and also showed up on my queue.

Is that because I play FPS and anime games?

I just found out that there is an upcoming VR cafe a 2 minute walk away from my home that's soon poised to open, i suppose that's how i'll play HL Alyx
But will Valve allow it?/s

Ho Ho Ho!

Hey! I'm sure that she is wholesome.

I'm building my first Lego set in about 10 years and it's changed a bit

I got a Lego brick remover with mine (you had to buy those separately before and I don't think there were official ones at the time.

It's the Lego X wing (which I think is now discontinued)

These things are expensive, the prices for Legos has gone up but I guess that also goes to show their value.

One of the big changes that I noticed is that they number the bags now. So you will have steps 1-50 that use Bag 1 and then have steps 51-69 use Bag 2 and so forth. This does make it easier to keep track of things but I would imagine that it would be a bigger hassle on Legos part. Since this means that they now have to sort things more. Before the way they were organized was either by color or by the size of the piece.

The Lego set that I wanted as a kid was a Lego Republic Gunship (7676) that thing had over 1,034 piece and retail for $120USD back in 2008. The Lego Xwing that I got only has 730 pieces and retails for $80USD.

Is it the one that got a botched localization and needs fan translation to play it properly?
The official localization is playable, but it's certainly far from good.

Which is particularly sad because the Ar Tonelico series has some of the most intricate and unique world building in JRPGs.

Hmm..... I mean in gone home you do have to explore for certain items to find the end.... Its less of a "game" than the astounding, What Remains of Edith Finch.... But, to me its a game. Its more of a game than Dear Ester in your definition. Did you ever play it or just watch youtube videos?
I'll admit I've never actually played it myself, but from what I've seen/heard there is no skill-based progress blocker and the player will come across the necessary items needed to progress without significant effort. Except patience, I suppose. Obviously people will disagree on where exactly that line lies, but this is just my personal opinion.
Also I'm not saying that an interactive experience is in any way lesser or worse than a game (I love Electroplankton and genuinely consider it to be art) I just disagree with calling them games on a semantic (and marketing) basis, the same way I would disagree with calling someone who writes tweets an Author (in the professional literary sense of the word) or someone who vlogs on YouTube a Director.
Also another random thought, I think the term 'walking simulator' may have come into being, and was used derisively to brand certain games, due to an underlying cultural understanding of what a game 'is supposed to be', whether that sentiment is right or wrong being a different matter. That said it was a bigger deal back in the day when Steam wasn't also selling software, TV shows, anime, pretty much anything, etc. like it is now.

Welp, I finally blew through my cards (still have about a hundred on the market) and I'm pretty satisfied with what I got: Amid Evil, Slay The Spire, Spirit Hunter: NG, Life is Strange 2, Call of Cthulhu, AI: The Somnium Files, Pathologic 2, Umineko: Answers Arc and Hitman 2. Maybe I'll buy something else (think 100 cards will be enough to buy EDF 4.1 at least) later, but I have more than enough on my plate now.

Ooh! We talking LEGO!
Want to see what was my pride and joy when I was little?
The old LEGO space 6780 spaceship!

I don't have it any longer though!
Wow LEGO really has changed. I do recall that they were very different way back when. I can only imagine how much money LEGO would have made if they had made LEGO Star Wars sets when the original movies came out. I understand that people like those one action figures, but I never understood their appeal. And if those things are worth a lot and people seemed to like them (aka hunting down the figures when they were still in production), it would make sense for the Lego Sets of that era to be worth a lot.

I do know that they were going to go out of business but them putting more of a focus on licensed sets instead of ones that had kids be more creative, help them stay around to this day.

Oh and it's still Christmas here so here are some Christmas tunes that I grew up with , some of these I even had to sing with my class in elementary school to our parents.

Oh and Mean Girls is a good movie

I still remember this from middle school

The feels

And ya Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays

You'll also find a lot of the more expensive sets are that way solely because one card is significantly more expensive than the rest. Someone hoarding one card to control the market?

I have seen people admit that they tried to do this with Artifact cards, recently with the OD uncommon card. It is called "pump and dump".

Regarding Steam trading cards, I suspect it often happens. There are cases for which one card is significantly more expensive than others. So,
  • either the drop rate is uneven for cards,
  • or someone tried to "pump" one of the cards and these are the long-term results.

I guess one of the parts if getting older is that stuff like Christmas is not as special as it use to be. It just feels like another day now. When I was younger it felt like their was a build up to it.

I think it was different this year at least since I didn't see that much Christmas stuff, at my last job they would play Christmas songs I think from the end of Thanksgiving up to Christmas day (and would even play them on December 26 as well) before getting rid of them and replacing them with non festive songs.

Also how is this a Holiday song

It's a pretty trippy song.

Yeah, a lot of sets with this issue have less than 10 on the market of the really expensive card. It reminded me to go through and make some boosters and Halo was easily the best and most consistent across the cards. People love those emotes.

We have a dedicated LEGO thread. Although it's for the lego games, not the toys. It seems to be have forgotten, even I have forgotten about it

Me myself. This year I have bought many Lego sets, maybe too many sets. I have spent too much money on these toys. But I love Lego 😍

It is funny how the level 9 badge looks better than the level 10 badge. I need to resist the urge to craft more.

If I reach level 10, I am stuck with a badge featuring an axe until I reach level 25. Then I have no idea what the badge is supposed to feature, maybe an owl.

Uh, my Sony TV (XF9005) doesn't work anymore. When I set it to hdmi 1 where the PC is plugged, this POS reboots.
Can't I have some fucking time off ?

What reboots? TV or PC? Maybe the PC is at a resolution/refresh rate the TV doesn't like?
Does the cable work with other devices? Try a different cable if you have one.

Variable refresh is really great (unless you play a game with wildly varying frametimes, but even then you can normally at least cap it at whatever it can do consistently).

So I was tasked to fix and old pc (Celeron. 2GB RAM, 80GB HD) and it's booting now though still using Windows XP.

This PC will be used for some 8-16 bits console emulation and lightweight web browsing. I was thinking about installing a Linux distro but don't know which one so I'm open to suggestions, just keep in mind it will be used by a kid.

Next year won't be cheap, will upgrade the PC and gotta buy PS5 (or maybe that in 2021, not sure). Thanksfully, I won't need the Xbox Series X as the games will be on PC too.

However, I have no idea if I will just upgrade the GPU or the whole PC to future proof myself. I thought about getting a new mobo for the 9900k, but reading online, intel will release the 10900k that needs a new socket Q1-2 next year, so I will have to wait.

My current PSU is strong (1000w), but old, so might have to replace that one and maybe the cabinet too which is old, but still working, except for a case fan, but that can apparently be replaced.

I currently have 32 GB RAM (2666mhz), GTX 1080, 5820k 4 ghz and Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler.

I will have to see the situation when the 3080ti is announced, I won't do any upgrade until then.

A raspberry pi with retropie installed would be a better alternative if it's only for retro gaming

I'm waiting for the 3000 series as well, hoping that it will provide a decent framerate with RTX enabled and for the more advanced VR games. Will probably go for the 3070 or 3080 (depending on the price), the ti-series is over my gaming budget.

Yeah, maybe the 3080 too, still not sure, will have to see the performance gap between the 3080 and the 3080ti before I decide anything.

For some reason I always thought that the gap between the 2080 and 208ti was very big, but I just cheched some benchmarks and it's far from as big of a gap as I thought it would ne, no idea why I haven't checked before.

In Norway, the 2080ti is pretty much the double in price as the 2080, but the performance is far from double.

I keep hearing about that the 3080 and 3080ti might get cheaper compared to the 2080 and 2080ti.

So I'll see what happens.

I will still stay at 1080p for many years. Framerate and graphic settings cranked up are way more important to me than resolution.
