Wanting people to double dip for virtualized hardware is the moral equivalent of securom's limited activations that Steam did away with more than 15 years ago.
Well, when they start treating everything as a separate platform - PC stores, consoles, streaming services, I guess they can justify it for themselves before they choke on their greed ;)

Bed of Chaos is one of my favorite DS1 boss fights :D
I really liked the complete change compared to regular bosses, it was more of a puzzle than a regular fight.
If you know how to solve a puzzle, but you still need several tries to do so, I'm not sure it's a good puzzle. ;)

Every time I've finally managed to beat Bed of Chaos in Dark Souls, I'm wondering what the hell From Software was thinking when designing this turd. But I always forgive them because the rest of the game is so amazing!
What's so bad about it? I thought its was easy encounter.

I took this from the post quoted above

...The other issue is some devs want to make sure users have the best possible experience with their game and thus they are totally against all streaming services that might introduce even the tiniest latency, affecting their ability to do quality control of the user experience, so they just don't want to deal with that factor and thus would prefer to not participate. I find this the most reasonable argument and I could not fault any dev who is in this boat.
Bollocks. If you asked me what any dev cared less about it would be latency/user experience caused by equipment. Of course they provide options to turn things on and off, but generating a pleasing gaming experience is (and always has been) the users job.
If the user can't work out how to get a steady frame rate they go to the Internet where the answers are crowd-sourced. They certainly don't lie with the devs themselves running tech support at ground level.

Besides, I think it will turn out that people will turn to a streaming service try to run the game on cutting edge equipment and discover the game STILL runs like shit. Devs are more scared that users will discover that they are not the programming gods they like to pretend to be.

I don't really see the need for a rice cooker. Cooking rice in a sauce pot on the stove works well enough for me. Pour the uncooked rice into a cold pot, and add 2x the volume of cold water and a pinch of salt. Put the pot on high heat and bring to a boil, then turn the heat to the lowest setting and cover the pot. Leave the pot undisturbed for 25 minutes, don't stir it or anything. Once the 25 minutes are up, you should get a perfectly cooked pot of rice.
Dunno, I found rice-cooker cooked rice ( ;Þ ) more fluffy and tastier then pot-cooked rice. But that may just be my non-existent cooking skills.

I do not own a Rice cooker and feel left out.
Where is the potato club?

French Fries, Twister Fries, Röstis, Hash Browns, Rosmary Potatos, Fried Potato, Baked Potato, duchess potatos, sweet potatos, mashed potatos...

Potatos are the best starch based ingredient #Fact #IchBinEineKartoffel
how very German of you :p

We need a cooking thread!
DESPERATELY!!! someone needs to make one :)

We should definitely have a cooking thread!
agreed

I've already accepted the fact that the interests of indiedevs and those of the players are not aligning anymore, and thus, they do not give a shit about me, and reversely, i won't give a shit about them anymore.

The "arms" of the tree pushing you onto tiles that may (or may not) disappear under your feet. I always felt this boss is more about trial&error and luck than skills, unlike most of the other bosses in Dark Souls.
First (real) boss also can just fall off the bridge :p

Or cook it with coconut milk
Coconut milk rice is great. Also cooking the rice in bone broth is amazing. I keep it on hand in the fridge for the week, heat it up with whatever I've got (lard, tallow, coconut oil), salt and pepper and it's almost a meal by itself.

I don't really see the need for a rice cooker.
I'm kind of confused about the rice cooker too. I've never used one, just a pot on the stove.

I haven't really used a rice cooker until I bought one and it's amazing! It's so easy and you get such good rice. It's the peace of mind just leaving it to do its own thing that's so good.

we just cook rice in a regular pot.... is that considered strange? ;)

and yes, someone should make a cooking thread. "Rice cookers and other cooking topics" or something like that ;)

If someone's buying your game on Steam, someone's buying your game on Steam. How they play it should be their decision.

Were developers angry about Proton? Because while obviously on a technical level running a game on a Windows server miles away is totally different than getting your game to run in Linux via some sort of compatibility layer, the end goal (and the principle of the matter) is about getting the Steam version of the game played by more people. And in the end, when people buy a Windows version of the game that version of the game should be theirs to play on any platform that can play Windows games, whether it's hardware they own or hardware they're renting.

I see a streaming service like GeForce Now as not really all that different than me renting a PC from a company for a month and playing my games on that. If Google has a problem with that, then that's Google's problem. That shouldn't be a developer's problem. And most people who buy a game on Steam aren't then going to buy a second version on a failing cloud service just so they can access it on the devices they already own. This is especially so in a world where most developers abjectly refuse to even get any sort of cross-save functionality going on.

I don't see this as anything but pure greed and contempt towards paying customers.
Yep. This is the same logic that will cause devs to turn off cross-play, and not have controller support on PC, etc. Why make any one version of a game good when they can monetize LOTS of versions?

Interesting timing on DRG all around.

There was a reveal trailer for Hardspace: Shipbreaker recently and I posted a positive comment on YouTube. Another user replied that I should look into Deep Rock, a game that was on my radar in the past, but I had immediately dismissed the moment I saw "co-op focus" in the description. I'm pretty allergic to all things online-multiplayer.

I noticed that Deep Rock was -50% as well as having a free-trial this weekend so I decided to dig a little deeper on the subject. There was a recent YouTube let's play showcasing solo mode in the game and I was quite impressed with what I saw. Didn't realize that in solo you have an AI bot providing combat/mining backup.

So I downloaded the trail version and fired it up. Hot damn I was sold almost immediately. I legit felt impatient to wrap up the tutorial level so I could smash the Buy button, lol.

First off, the game just looks gorgeous. It's got that flat-poly aesthetic that looks simplistic on the surface but is augmented with tons of lighting and atmospheric effects. It's a striking look. Game also runs like absolute butter, spitting out 120fps without breaking a sweat.

But what really sold me after my initial graphics wow was the feel of the game. Player movement, camera control & shooting are all incredibly dialed in, making world traversal feel amazing. Kinda reminds me of Doom 2016 for some reason.

Pacing feels smart with a good balance of resource gathering and combat. The biggest ding I'd level against the game is that you can't save and exit out mid-mission. This makes total sense in a co-op focused game, but it really bites for the solo player. One of the big reasons I'm not into multi at all is I want the freedom to pick up and end a gameplay session at the drop of a hat. And it looks like some of these missions can last over an hour which means you really need to be signed up if you want to see completion. Thankfully mission briefings do indicate how long they are out of a 4-star rating.

There's an extensive upgrade path for each of the 4 characters you play as (engineer, gunner, driller, scout) as well as your bot buddy Bosco. Makes me think there's some good replay value in there if you want to grow your characters.

So yeah, for $15 DRG feels like a steal, even in solo play. Just feels like a great pick-up & play title with an entertaining loop. Glad I looked further into it after my initial dismissal.

Ryza is really fun. I guess it helps that I haven't played an Atelier game in a few years now. The pace of releases got too much.

I do wish it had a slightly larger selection of playable characters earlier in the game.

Oh, and the PC version works well, the only thing they really need is better transitions between their shadow cascades.

Can I buy a Rift S if I still have a 970 for some time or is it a recipe for disaster ?
Trying to decide if I should prioritize GPU, headset, or nothing.
...
Maybe I should post this in the VR thread, but I've got nothing to say about rice cookers :thinking-blob:

I would buy a GPU first if I were you, 970 will do fine in some games, but I doubt that something like Alyx will be enjoyable with it.

I think a 970 will give you an okay VR experience, but it's at the edge of not being good enough.

I would personally get a better GPU before a VR headset.

Voices of reason !
But then again I can get a Rift today, who knows when they will available again :thinking-face:

Edit. I mean maybe I'm a tad pessimistic with this and my fear of new consoles delay the other day, but look at that.

Let me guess, you have to pay for each hair color for each character ? :smiling-eyes:
You pay 1 euro every time you change, even when changing back to a color you used previously. 1 euro to change the hair color of a character and you're not even buying that color, just paying to change it. This is fucking insane, how did we get to this point? People paying for this shit and therefore supporting this type of scheme should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

Anyway, didn't have time to play the whole FF7 demo but I liked what I played. Need more time with it to give a definitive opinion on the battle system. The game looks fantastic though.
