Players gets it alright. It's just that it feels extremely heavy-handed and the furthest thing away from flow. It is an authoritarian design that doesn't agree with people who enjoyed fluid gameplay and not being pigeonholed into specific actions and answers all the time while watching timers cool down. It's taken the run and gun out of DooM.

To be honest the most aggravating thing about it has been people's attitude toward those who dislike it. Gaslighting and saying that they just don't get it, that they need to git gud or that they are just filthy casuals. It couldn't possibly be that people have preferences and that this feels terribly stifling with a design that breaks its own flow all the time. No, people need to be punished for their mistakes, but also the game doesn't force you to play any given way, except when it does. It's really disingenuous and demonstrates a very noxious set of beliefs.

The fanbase is turning into the dark souls tryhard-type overnight and it's irritating me to see an attitude online that is all but abusive toward detractors of the game.

It's amazing how the weeklong deals search page works on a coin toss basis... This week I got tails so no page for me.

I've spent 20 hours already in FM 2020, and I kinda feel guilty of not spending any money for that amount of entertainment. The game also just received record highest peak last weekend, more than doubling the highest peak normally.

They need to capitalize from it, like giving 50% off discount at the end of the free week. Especially in the current situation where football leagues are virtually suspended, so that football fans can only go to fantasy leagues like Football Manager. At least we can still watch football matches in the game.

Seems like Playstation is lowering download speeds.

Which is suprising as I didn't think PSN download speeds could go down any lower.

Valve so lazy they haven't bothered tagging the Alyx store page with Cloud Save tag. The game does have it, but the store page doesn't have the tag.

There are actually lots of VR games on Steam that supports cloud saves, but their store page isn't tagged with it.

The combat just flows in and of itself in a well worked pattern, and as youve eliminated some threats you chainsaw for ammo and repeat the process or utilize other weapons for effective clearing

I think many of you alreary know or thought of this but i am surprised at some players not liking the game or at least its combat flow ^^;
I indeed did not like its' combat flow, because it's not really an FPS combat flow. I saw another person post that it's a character-action-game (DMC, Bayonetta) disguised as an FPS and that rings true. You just... don't get to play it like an FPS. You don't have options. You run out of ammo incredibly fast if you don't do it "right", you use glory kills and chainsaw to kill enemies more than actual shooting.

Those games are fine too, although I tend to dislike them because they also tend to force, or very strongly nudge, players into playing a certain way, and they do the same loop of chip away at spongy enemies until you can finish them off in the same way you've finished off the previous 300 enemies. Doom Eternal is in this same loop, and I wouldn't be surprised if the overlap of people who like DMC games is a Venn circle with people who like Eternal, because they're largely the same game concept with a different camera. That's a bit hyperbolic obviously but hopefully my point is coming across.

I ended up getting Bayonetta pretty cheap when it ported to PC based on how much praise it got, and it definitely was my favorite of the DMC-like genre I've played, mainly because it loosened that structure a lot and enemies weren't as beefy so you could approach more on your own terms. Doom Eternal I think I could enjoy some, but certainly not $60 worth, and probably not even $30 worth. I'm hoping with time and discounts some mods will come that let me play it as an FPS, because then it'll be for sure worth it to me.

Glad to see you guys enjoying Alyx. This tickles my interest in VR even more, but I'm waiting for better wireless solutions.

Looks like Outer Wilds is coming to Steam June 18 (that's just 2 weeks after the exclusivity ending), nice!!!

I'm still pissed at Annapurna for being Epic's major provider of exclusives, so I'll skip this one for now. This said, I have noticed that Annapurna’s latest announcements aren't EGS exclusives anymore, so there's hope for the future. Annapurna does have a good taste for quality games.

PSN download speeds are something out of 2005.

I needed nearly 12hrs to download Warzone while on Bnet it was like 30 minutes. This is on same internet.

:poop::poop::poop: infrastructure.

Cerny out there giving lectures on next gen SSDs for PS5. They better put some type of next gen antenna into that thing because I'm not gonna give a shit about load times when I'm wasting days downloading games.

I gotcha, though I am someone who is usually open for any mixing or changing up of gameplay styles, so I don't mind Eternal's gameplay/combat.

How's Greedfall? Currently on sale on Chrono.gg, lowest price to date
It's still very limited on the technical side but it's quite enjoyable and by far Spiders' finest work to date, in my opinion. I say that it's worth it if you find the setting interesting.

I'm planning to start play Sword Art Online. The plan is to play the games chronology. Already checked the game order.
So I'm wondering if the Anime is connected to the games and if so what is the chronological order for the Anime and the games

"We genuinely believe people want to spend money on the things they love. "

That's damn right.

These Valve game devs actually seem quite down to earth and human after all. :p

Speaking of VR games, are the two 'The Gallery' games worth it? I like VR games with puzzles and plenty of interactivity.

If you've already played the likes of Red Matter and Lone Echo, I guess. They didn't click for me but clearly others loved them.

I liked the first Gallery, but didn't play through the second one, didn't like it much, felt confusing.

I loved Red Matter and especially Lone Echo. Can't wait for Lone Echo 2. However I can see why some won't like them.

I'm open to changing up gameplay and stuff like that, but I play FPS single-player games to play... FPS. Doom Eternal just does not play like any of the FPS I've played in the past 20 years, and again, it's not fun when approached as an FPS. It's fine that it wants to be a different genre, it's just not what's really advertised or expected. I can't think of any shooty game I've played where I just stuck with 1 or 2 weapons the whole time, I always swap around depending on the situation, but it's different when it's forced upon you. And again, the absolutely unending repetitive melee kills is not what I want out of an arcade shooter. I used them when necessary in Doom 2016, but they weren't necessary very often (maybe once or twice per room), and I used the chainsaw even less.

Compare Eternal with Titanfall 2, or Wolfenstein, or Doom 2016, or even other genre-spinoffs like Borderlands, all those games are shooters first, giving you the option to approach encounters in your own way and giving you the tools to navigate encounters that maybe are challenging for your style. Whereas in Eternal. they give you a billion tools and upgrades (all the new movement tech, the Runes and weapon mods, etc.) but you are basically told "oh no, you can't shoot cacodemons, you need to grenade them. Oh don't finish off imps with your gun, glory kill them. Oh make sure not to kill all the zombies because then you'll run out of ammo fighting the two big guys. " They add a ton of interesting tools and then restrict you from using them in a non-prescribed way.

Like obviously plenty of people still seem to enjoy it, albeit not nearly at the ratio compared to Doom 2016, and that's fine, but I think people not recognizing how far away from any other shooter it is and telling people they don't get it is a problem. I initially bought it because I thought I was buying a mostly old-school arcade FPS, but what I feel like I got was quicktime events with extra steps.

To be fair, this is partially a criticism I would level at Half-life: Alyx (so far) as well, as it also wanders away from its' FPS roots and is much more of a survival game, which I'm not a fan of. But it's "close enough" so far and the actual gameplay is still relatively shootery despite being VR. I would actually say despite the complete format change Alyx is closer to feeling like an FPS than Eternal is.

I miss fps. I hated New Colossus and now this. I can respect and at times enjoy what ID went for, but I would lie if I said I didn’t waste my time on games I don’t like, as Line said.

Great. I have watched the first episode and it was very enjoyable. I am going to watch the whole game with this dude, I guess.

I have not tried the previous link which had been posted, so maybe it is good too.

Edit: The main differences between the 2 links are that "Christopher Odd" comments what happens around him and does not rush through the game. It feels like I am playing the game with him. As if I were in the same room watching him play for me. A cost-efficient way to experience curved gaming on a flat screen. ;)

Decided to watch this one as well, dude seems cool but I hope he doesn't talk as much throughout the whole game.

The PSN download speed reduction is going to be awesome when people can't get FFVIIR shipped to them and have to opt for digital instead.
