I"m so conflicted on this one.

Had it Wishlisted since the day the Steam page went up. Then I saw a 40 min. gameplay vid and was deflated by the quality of the writing & voice acting. I'm typically all about some jank as I love underdog, shoestring-budget indies. But in this case it felt actively distracting.

Though flying around those gorgeous Blade Runner landscapes still sounds intoxicating in a sci/fi Euro Truck Sim kind of way.

What's your read? Am I being overcritical?

Also curious about k/m control as I rarely pull out my wired 360 pad, and I understand this one leans heavy into vertical movement. Any feedback on that front?
The voice acting for me is pretty charming, is not the best, but is not distracting either, for me at least.
I´m playing with KB&M and have no problem with it.
There is not much going on as far as I played, but just walking/driving around is pretty relaxing, the visuals and the soundscape are just too good.

I'm not sure how it is for other people, but I have noticed that in Japan while you do have people that have PCs that can more than run games (mangaka) they don't seem to want to want to use them for that. I'm guessing that it's from fear of something breaking and losing data? Which is a valid reason of concern.

How do indie devs in the west go about that? Or do they just back things up regularly? For just in case.


I say this because I first came around something similar some years ago when I was reading about how this one mangaka does their manga digitally rather than the traditional hand drawn approach. They mentioned how they did have a PC but just didn't want to play games on it in fear that something would break (it sounded like they didn't want to "exert" more than the needed work loaded that the computer needed in order to last longer?). So why put more strain on their PC when they could just buy something like a console instead seemed to be the gist of it.


I wonder how webtoon artist in Korea ago about it.



Also where is he located? Can't he use GeForce Now? If he is in the US I don't think SEGA has removed their games from GeForce Now and if he is in Japan well SoftBank launched GeForce now about 2 months ago I think.

It's really difficult for me to understand that line of thinking.

One of the best things about my job is being able to spend far too much (from my perspective as a generally frugal person) on my PC with the excuse (and to some extent valid reason) that it's for work. And then being able to use that same PC for gaming :)

To be fair, I've seen this as well with musicians and film directors that I personally know.
They have two computers (sometimes a MAC and a PC, sometimes 2 PCs) and they have a machine just for work, and the other to browse the web, videogames, and whatnot.

I know one of them had the belief that he wanted to keep that machine as "clean" as possible, with as few things as possible installed, so that compiling his work would take as few time as possible.

One other, feared getting viruses/damaging work files, by using that machine for web browsing, and videogames.

So, it's really more common than you think with artists. :)

They have two computers (sometimes a MAC and PC, sometimes 2 PCs) and they have a machine just for work, and the other to browse the web, videogames, and whatnot.

I know one of them had the belief that he wanted to keep that machine as "clean" as possible, with as few things as possible installed, so that compiling his work would take as few time as possible.

One other, feared getting viruses/damaging work files, by using that machine for web browsing, and videogames.

So, it's really more common than you think with artists. :)
Honestly, that's probably not a terrible idea, especially for people in those professions.

My setup has so far worked well for me (and I do believe I mostly know what I'm doing), but I might still regret it one day ;)

The only thing I never understood, at all, is how some treat their (frequently outdated) MACs like they're "divine machines", capable of amazing feats their PCs would never do.

For example, to compile an audio track.
In their view, the MAC was god-like fast, and a PC would never match it.

I kept telling them "you add a lot of RAM to a PC, it would easily eclipse that MAC", but no, the MAC was always better. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

i can confirm that ... a SHITLOAD of audio and graphic design people praise macs for some bizarre reason ... it's annoying as fuuuuuck

It's not just a question of praising Macs, it's just how ridiculously unrealistic they are with their comparisons.
You have a 10 year old Mac. You have a brand new PC, with a processor 20 times as fast as the one from that Mac, much more RAM (and faster) on the PC.

To encode or compile an audio file, or a video file, or whatever, in their view the Mac is always faster.
Because a Mac is always faster at that than a PC. o_O

I know several people who still keep working on their old as hell Macs for this purpose.

I found the voice acting to be ok, I've heard way worse in other games. Its not great, far from it, but its ok. Same goes for the writing. But its probably a matter of taste: I'll let stuff like that slide easier if gameplay's good. And it is, mostly.
Flying around is, as TioChuck said, pretty relaxing, its not a very busy game so far.
The only real gripe I have with it is that I'm never sure when the last checkpoint save happened. The game either made it not very clear or I'm blind.

And indeed, keyboard and mouse controls work just fine, including vertical (its just space to ascend and shift to descend).

I'm a software engineer & I keep my work and gaming separate. I mean for one I now have a work-issued high end laptop so it's not even a question, but before I had the work laptop I always kept my work and game PCs separate. To the extent of having to buy & upgrade 2 desktop computers.

For me it's about efficiency (of play and work, not money), but it's also psychological. If I have entertainment right on my work computer I might run into self-discipline issues. I also don't like my gaming PC tainted by anything. It's like a hotrod and it's totally mine. I don't want to see my work when I'm relaxing.

Hell I even have different iOS devices, one for work one for entertainment.

So these artist are focused more on using software (and knowing how to use it well) as opposed to learning more about the computer in general type of a thing?



Oh and about that one F AAA games. Some points in that make a lot of sense but other parts just flew over my head. That part about how some games companies will close studios and how they will fire off hundreds of employees even if they are making a lot of money has happened multiple times In the past few years (and longer before that). So if say Valve expanded and had another studio and that studio was responsible for Artifact and that game didn't do well would they get shut down? Would that potentially lead to hundreds get laid off rather than a few dozen (which is still bad)


The whole AAA system is pretty insane since you have studios (not game companies) that will some times have 400+ employees and will sometimes also get help from other studios (doesn't Ubisoft,2K and I think Sony now? Also have studios in parts of Asia that are not Japan in order to potentially get cheap labor? With the cheap labor I do recall some indie devs complain about that and how it cost a lot to operate in LA, Seattle,SF,etc compared to some indie dev in China) and it also seems that these studios are the ones that will get massive lay offs since the parent company also owns other studios.

Studios getting closed down really sucks, and in some cases like what Sony did in the last 4 months or so, they closed down one of their studios in the UK. That studio was working on a VR game, I don't know what else they worked on but I think their main goal was to make VR games (maybe their was mismanagement within the studio or maybe Sony just didn't want to invest/have a studio that is just dedicated to making VR titles)



Having gambling in games is bad, but having gambling in a game that is rated either E or T should not be a thing. Something rated M (I mean ehhh...). I say meh because if we really wanted to we could likely just make rated M games require people to be over 18+ in order to play. I'm not sure how much of an impact this would have on PC but in pretty sure that companies like Sony/MS/Activision/EA/Take2 would fight this because of money that they might lose?



So most of the money in the gaming industry goes to AAA and the scraps go to the indie devs. So what exactly happens in between years? Because Sony,MS and Nintendo are not releasing first party AAA titles, do they then really on third party AAA titles and because those companies have multiple studios making games like COD, they can just pump one out each year and rake in millions from the million of copies that they are making from a game releases that is vaguely the same as previous titles (is this also why FPS games have sort of become stale? But at least the indie scene has been able to do something with it). If we had a year where all the big AAA companies were busy with a title and just had 1 year where it was nothing but indie game or very small scale games from a AAA company how would that year look like? Would we see more people trying out indie games? Would be see less people just buying games in general? Would we hear of more "indie success stories"? Would we see even more of a variety of games genre wise? Or would we just see a lot of rouge lite metrovania #5739?

At least for graphics stuff I don't think you have to worry as much with a Mac? By which I mean since most Macs have a built in display (2 in 1 and also stand alone towers do exist but I think those are for the much more power heavy people?) You at least won't have to worry as much about calibrating the monitor? So this can potentially help with the design process, don't Macs also have some sort of CMYK display mode for colors?




Oh by the way I think my SSD and potentially my M.2 NVMe may now have issues since I can't access certain files on them...... Yay..... so on my main C drive I can no longer access the files that are on my "desktop" directory. With my M.2 it would not let me access the Steam games that I had on that drive.. at the end of it all once I upgrade my PC again I think I'm just going to nuke all of my drives.

Also I'm guessing that playing CSGO should be safe as long as I play on the official casual servers based of what people have said.

So I guess that one Valve X Apple AR thing was just something someone made up?

And I guess someone saw the writing on the wall.

Gaming on Mac will live on In the form of Apple Arcade at least

On the VR side of things the Valve Index doesn't support Mac but the HTC Vive does?

In other news, holy hell am I head over heals for L Corp. Closing in on 20 hours and it just keeps getting better...and stranger. Just amazing so far.

Incredibly, I discovered that there's a English Fan Translation that's feature complete and running through final bug-testing. It's been in development for the better part of a year and the dev is gonna push it as an official Steam update shortly after it's been greenlit by the translation team.

It's available right now and boy howdy does it make a night & day difference in all manner of presentation. From basic tutorial instructions to unique Abnormality lore logs. I tapped into it at 15 hours into the base game and after 5 or so hours with the reworked translation, I'm amazed at how clean & accessible the game feels now.

As the monitor stand shows, Apple prices are entirely unrelated to real-world concerns like production costs or value. So anything could happen.

That just seems like a lot of extra work to me.

I use virtual desktops to separate different task streams on the same PC. When I'm done with work I switch to the "gaming" virtual desktop. (Well, I actually have more than 2, e.g. usually one for university work, one for PH3 work, one for gaming, and one for random projects, but that's the principle ;))

For the longest time if you wanted to watch Pocket Monsters in the US it was on CN (well Time Warner had the broadcasting rights to the series) and then about maybe 3 years ago (when the Sun and Moon anime aired) it was only on Disney XD but I guess Disney lost the rights now and instead it will now be on Netflix?

edit: Yup, they actually did break the game. A file is missing which causing that you cannot start the game without it

At this moment they have updated and broke these games

I hope the S edition will be available on Steam. Doesn't matter if it's free or paid. I want it before I start playing it
looking at FF12 ... this patch appeared almost a year after the game released on switch ... so might be the same for S edition features ... aka we might wait till september

you're joking ... but that's probably a huge part of it ... people associate high price with the product being good, which is definitely not the case most of the time (ESPECIALLY for apple, lol)

I agree on the Mac thing totally.
Although anecdotally, my 2500k from somewhere around 2012 was the best thing ever for me running Guitar Rig and other soft amps etc. My 2018 Ryzen with the faster/more RAM and board etc. was quite possibly the worst piece of shit ever for exactly the same job.
So bad I had to buy a USB audio interface to offload a lot of the grunt work.

I can totally understand that.

I'm an accountant. I work for 15 years with a certain brand of software (yeah, the actual software is frequently updated, but the basis remains the same).
We had a few trials with other accounting software, and really, I always struggle to get the hang of them, because you just want to work with what you know, so it ends up being a lot more efficient and faster.

But, that's not what I was mentioning.
I personally know plenty of people who see Macs, and Apple in general, and some kind of "god-like brand". And, they seem to believe their Macs are better than any PC could ever be, in any conditions, and simply don't see reason.

As a side note, I mentioned friends (and a relative) that are artists, and have a fixation with their Macs.
But, I'll tell you a professional example.

In my country, companies have to own an invoicing software that was previously certified by the local fiscal authority (to ensure it can't be manipulated, that it follows the current laws, ...). 99.9% of the software available is for PCs, because that's what people use at stores/restaurants/companies in general. Even the few clients I know that use a Mac, they use a Windows invoicing software with those "boot camp" tools.

I have one client that has a Mac, and simply refuses to use any sort of Windows solution, because Mac is better, its software never crashes, and so on.
One time, he even said to me it was because the "X" to close the windows on the Mac were on the left, and on Windows they were on the right, and he didn't like that, and couldn't get used to it. :unsure:

Anyway, because there's basically no one using a Mac for this purpose, there's almost no certified invoicing software available, that follows the local laws, that are pure Mac solutions. He found one, after much search, and has been using it for the past 6-7 years or so. He has daily problems with it, he frequently lost stored information, anything you can think of. It's clear the program was barely tested, and barely does what it's supposed to. Any time there's a problem, he has to report it, wait a ridiculous amount of time, pay costly extras and support fees, to have something working as it should, out of the box.

Yet, despite my constant recommendation that he changes that software (I even suggested getting a crappy, used PC, just for this purpose, since he didn't want to install Windows software on his machine), and despite his acknowledgement that the current situation isn't sustainable, and assuring me he will change it, the truth is he didn't do anything so far. 6-7 years of problems, just to keep using an (outdated) Mac.
In the meantime, he frequently spends a few thousand € on some pretty, Apple big monitors, that are completely pointless for his needs.

Oh, and that thing about Mac software not crashing? I barely have any experience with Macs, but when I was trying to help him use his invoicing software, I crashed the software at least 10 times in less than an hour.

Hope I don't pop anyone's mind but you can close windows on a PC by double clicking on the left side. Think on W10 it looks like a PC and monitor.
Sorry to be vague but I use Dopus as a file explorer and haven't seen windows built in explorer for years.

I guess the reputation of "speed" of the macs is a holdover from the PowerPC era, where it could be argued that for certain type of tasks it was faster.

I do wish Windows's UI was as nifty, but the nearly walled garden OS design can fuck right off. It's incredibly infuriating to see unix features be locked behind a paywall.

One of the games currently in Early Access that I own, and that is shaping up very nicely, is:



I mentioned it briefly, when I listed a few cool Korean games recently released on Steam, and this one is already very enjoyable, and well worth a look for those who enjoy the genre. The very positive reviews on Steam are telling that a lot of people are digging this game.

It looks lovely in motion, it controls really well, and it's a lot of fun to play. It's like a cross between Decap Attack and Kid Chameleon, because like the first, you are a skeleton that can throw his head, and like the second, you drastically change abilities and powers, when you switch your head (in Kid Chameleon, it was masks/helmets, here it's actual heads :)).





The developers were hoping to launch on Q2, so here's hoping the "final" version won't take long, because I'm really looking forward to the final game.

I can't mention enough: the game looks lovely in motion. I mean, check this background:
