I wonder if anybody played more, I also played 2 of the top 10

• 1 ballot had all 5 games present in the top 10,
• 3 ballots included exactly 4 games from the top 10,
• 10 ballots included exactly 3 games from the top 10,
• 16 ballots included exactly 2 games from the top 10,
• 12 ballots included exactly 1 game from the top 10,
• 6 ballots did not include any game from the top 10.

Because I object to the cutting out of EA titles from other titles altogether. I'm very grateful Beat Saber was allowed on the list as EA, but when a game is being sold it should be fully rated by the community.

As for the separation of EA titles from the main category, I did not put much thought into it. I guess it is:

• to make sure a game would not appear in the top 10 of the main category for several years (potentially in a row), as the EA duration can be very long,
• to bring the focus on EA titles, as people can check the EA category to discover these games.

I am not sure the first guess is a tangible risk. It might just be a case of overcautiousness.

Regarding the second guess, there are workarounds, e.g. we could have extracted the results for the EA category from the main category.

Monster Hunter, Yakuza, Dragon Quest and Subnautica. My list had all but Dragon Quest on it.

My assumption if EA general population were allowed on GOTY lists they would only appear the first year of EA and never again, even after leaving EA. Again, if it's being sold as a consumer product, due to the nature of GOTY lists it should be treated this way I think.

Then secondly, I noticed Dead Cells appeared on the 2018 list. I played it mostly last year and put it on GOTY lists in 2017. So I didn't even think to add it to this year's list.

Finally, there are non-EA games that evolve pretty dramatically, too. All games that improve should be given recognition when they do evolve.


GOTY lists are a bunch of semantics on a popularity contest anyways. I'm not demanding chances, but I don't think much of the EA distinction.

Good list, a lot of varied genres and styles of games. I've played 6 but only finished 2 (Yakuza 0 and Monster Hunter World).

I played 6 of the top 10. I've finished Deadfire, Odyssey, and GRIS, plus I played Yakuza 0 on PS4 before it was announced for PC. I'm currently about 60 hours into Dragon Quest XI and a few in Monster Hunter Worldso far.

Great Top 10, but kinda expected from the people here. I really gotta start playing the recent Hitman games, have the first one bought, just going through over stuff in my backlog first. #TooManyGames

I played three of the top 10 and they were pretty good. Yakuza 0 and MHW were top 10 worthy.

Not a bad list. It's good to see a fantastic CRPG tied for number one!

Personally, I think Kingdom Come: Deliverance deserves to be a lot higher. It's arguably one of the best open-world RPGs since Fallout: New Vegas. What I find perhaps most remarkable is how it reacts to your logical actions. It's that game where you think I wonder if I can do this, and it behaves accordingly. This above almost anything else is what really immerses me into a world, because I feel like I can do anything. Most games easily break the illusion of the living world by making it obvious that your actions are limited to what is presented to you (dialogue, quest marker, journal checklists, etc.).

Totally missed this thread! Great work! I should really check out Odyssey, a lot of people loved it, I guess I'm just burned out on AC games. See you next year!
