Maybe you shouldn't visit that forum in the first place or at the very least don't let some posters affect you enough that you vent here.
As if it is the only place. If I would cower before every idiot thing that happens in the world, I wouldn't be on the internet and entomb myself in my apartment.

The PCgamingShow thread was pretty good when I was in it, so was the Future Games Show, but those are the only I really did a play-by-play with. I'd have just live-threaded here, but this place was a smoking pile of rubble at the time (fuck anime).
It's sad to hear people were up in arms over basically the reason I was there. Big new IP or sequels don't get revealed at these shows anymore, so I look forward to what the indie crowd have to show, even if Harvest moon clones and Souls games aren't my thing.

Is this game good? I was about to ask the same thing.
Reading reviews and impressions, I got the following:

  • Character-driven XCOM with Korean anime styles
  • Visual novel-like story telling with cut-ins
  • Tons and tons of grinding (equipment, skills etc)
  • Very slow-paced with long missions
  • English translation may be mediocre
  • Still receives regular updates from developers

Basically, a huge strategy game with hits-and-misses (like many indies). Looks unique as there are not many (or, none) XCOM game with anime aesthetic out there.

Started playing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. Everything feels either too stiff or too weird. I’d hate to play the original ones now

TROUBLESHOOTER is on sale? Seriously tempting.
Here's some thoughts I put down last month.

Troubleshooter. It's anime-XCOM w/ FFT job system/character building & VN storytelling.

And it's legit dreamy.

Another indie out of Korea that just went 1.0 a few weeks back, it's the team's first release. It's drawing influence from a number of places and it's pulled off with an infectious upstart, whipsmart confidence.

Mechanically it's lifted straight out of modern XCOM but with enough new spins & layers of depth that it feels familiar yet fresh. On the map there's overlapping layers of synergy, enough to make the mind reel. Buff & debuff possibilities can seem limitless (seriously, there's over 600 Mastery types that you can equip each character with).

Quick example. Fighting indoors and my partner says, "Hey, there's a fuse box over there. You should flip it since we're outnumbered here." So I do it and the room falls into darkness, giving everyone (including my team) a vision, movement & hit-chance debuff. Then he goes, "You got some flashbangs, right?" Well flashbangs daze everyone in the aoe. BUT...if those poor saps also have the darkness debuff, the combo of darkness & daze makes them start panicking and shooting both enemies & allies randomly. Bonus. BUUUT...only 3 of the 4 baddies proc'd panic debuff because when I triggered the flash...the last one had a Sunglasses modifier (Mastery) equipped. You know, just in case that 1 in a million situation arose. Guess it was his lucky day. (ed. It wasn't.) Bonkers.

And that's not even getting into the environmental synergies much like the Divinity: Original Sin mechanics. Yeah so you see someone standing in a pool of oil. Looks like a fireball should warm them up right nice. But here it's like a dozen layers deeper. What time of day is it outside? Is there a breeze in the air? How hot or cold is it? You can capitalize on all these factors and many more.

Combat in Troubleshooter is super melee-focused. There are guns. And there's magic projectiles. But it's equally balanced with crazy-cool h2h fighting disciplines. From the traditional martial arts style to the more wacky break dancing variety. (Hey, it's anime.) The combo of h2h + magic disciplines take the XCOM blueprint and make it feel incredibly invigorated in practice.

Story is really great so far. You play a newly-graduated Troubleshooter in the near future. You part of a civilian paramilitary group that works adjacent with more traditional police forces in the country. Your team have Judge Dread jury/executioner rights and a baller Persona-like fashion style. As someone else put it, "a civilian militia of superhero punk rock kids called Troubleshooters." I can already see the story tension rising as the Troubleshooters start clashing with the FedPD as the latter are sectioning off neighborhoods and whole cities due to escalating crime. Then there's that whole rising cult thing with these weirdos who worship spoons [sic].

Besides the wealth of writing & character development, out of combat you're also building your character's stat loadouts Final Fantasy Tactics style. Seriously, there's more tables, stats and combo possibilities than I've seen in a long time. They just went all in on the fine customization of character job systems. When you start feeding skills into other skills to make even bigger, better & more badass skills, you start to appreciate the madness that went into these systems.

The scope and depth is pretty astounding for the studio's first release. I mentioned above that there's over 600 unique Mastery skills that you can mix, match & equip on party members. But also of interest is that there's 80+ unique story missions (early on averaging me 45-60 min. each), 200 cut scenes, 180 Achievements, etc. It's just crazy-ambitious.

Presentation is great. AA budget that's well realized. Combat maps have tons of environmental detail. Storytelling is a combo of 3D environmental shots (w/ quite creative cinematography, oddly enough) and VN type stills. Both done really well. Music is baller. Nice mix of big, dumb anime hair-metal and smooth jazz, intersperses with more serious notes. And THANKFULLY (seriously, this would have been a deal-breaker), no gross anime tropes. Everyone is tastefully dressed. Males & females are equally strong in character. Fresh.

When I started to recognize how special this production was the big takeaway for me was how fun it was to be experiencing an XCOM-adjacent gameplay loop that wasn't all grim & serious like the source material. The over-the-top flashy anime, both on and off the field. The interesting characters and heavy focus on story in between combat. The whole production just had so much energy & life behind it.

It's so crazy that we're in a season of riches with the recent launches of XCOM: Chimera Squad and Gears Tactics. Yet here comes this little $25 indie out of S. Korea that completely steals the show. Made by a team of 6 people it's gem that just epitomizes heart and verve. There's a bit of a cult following behind it, it'll probably go largely unnoticed all told. But for me I'm just glad I heard about it. It's most fun XCOM has been in years.

99% to hit success!

In short, it's an incredibly fresh and unique product and it's in the lead for my GOTY.

It's got that scrappy indie/AA charm and the crusty parts (translation, etc.) are more than made up for by its upstart hunger, confidence and verve.

Truly awesome stuff.

So it's "new normal" now in my city, and it looks like we're going back to the office soon. My boss has been thinking about bringing an entertainment center (consoles) for the Apple TV. But I have a better idea: Steam Link.

However, I'm not sure which controllers that will work on that thing. Does DS4 or XB1 controller work on Apple TV?

I personally believe Demos are a great idea. I can't understand why demos were not a thing in the past but they serve a big purpose in a two way situation.

FIrst of all, it lets you "try" and play a game you might not know whether you will like it or not, so you save yourself(and steam support as well) the hassle of a refund.
Second and probably also notable, it deters users the possibility to access the game via illegitimate channels (think of a hook and wooden leg situation) for the same purpose previously mentioned.

I personally think Free Weekends serve for the exact same purpose I explained above but they are fixed in time and thus are not available at any time. I believe they are especially great for Multiplayer based games tho since they happen when most players have more free time at their disposal.

Steam Input
  • Added a relative mouse delta binding – this is useful for mouse/kb style games where you want to click on right click context menu option

The new option allows you to instantly move your cursor along the y or x axis. This means you can set a button to do an instant 180 degree turn if you'd like.

It's not perfect yet, but give it time. I'm sure people will figure out some cool things to do with it.

edit: It's also useful for older games without controller support. You can have the d-pad set to move along the y/x axis to navigate the menu screens or inventory. Example

There were some recent threads on other-forum (era) about people complaining about indies stinking up the gaming shows.
That forum only loves AAA/AA and first party games. The only time they care about indie games is when there is controversy. And don't forget that two days before PC Gaming Show there is another game show designed exclusively to make people interested in their hardware. On PC Gaming Show no one is trying to sell hardware.

My entire close friend group is playing P4G and they’re all really liking it and im absolutely shocked. Only two of them regularly play JRPG’s (or any rpg at all really) so seeing them all vibe with it is super wild.

I guess me hardcore shilling the series to them for years probably helped. But its funny (and fun) seeing them have big discussions about strategies and story theories every night. I have to try super hard not to spoil anything for them lol.

Its nice though, I get worried when I recommend a game that my friends will play it and not like it, and considering Persona 4 Golden is my favorite game of all time its especially true here. So it warms my heart to see my friends get super invested in it like I did all those years ago.

As mentioned, a BT 4.0 dongle is all you need. Hot tip: Guide + Triangle instantly turns it off while Steam is running.
Now that I think about it, I already have some little shit like that for a wireless Logitech mouse, no way to use it I suppose ?
Not that it matters looking at the pricing, it's more an issue of free usb port.

You can't use it, that dongle can only pair with their respective mouse.

So far Amazon offers
TP-Link UB400 - 11.90e
Amazon product
And Materiel.net, famous PC shop offer
TrendNet TBW-106UB - Clé Bluetooth 4.0 - 100m - 15.95e
TrendNet TBW-107UB - Clé Bluetooth 4.0 - 10 m - 13.94e

I would tend to go with Materiel, as they are indeed a serious seller in my experience, but no idea about the difference between the two. The cheaper one is far more limited in coverage, but is it the only difference ?

What would you people go for ? It's evidently a matter of choosing well, neither of those are too pricey.

What's the go-to solution to use DS4 on GamePass these days ?
GP now lets you choose installation drive, so in a couple of years it will support it, but eh, we will all use DS5 by then :so-good-blob:

I think some games (not many) have DS4 support built in. Some folks use DS4Windows (there are new builds of this on github). I use GloSC (Global Steam Controller). Here's a fork that works better with UWP titles. It lets you add Gamepass titles to Steam like a regular non-Steam Game. Just add the name, click the UWP button to pick the game, and then check "close shortcut".

Creating an instance with the default option is good enough I take it ? Overlay, Virtual controllers, and launch games.
