Walker and Grayson aren't very much alike at all in their takes on games or the industry at large. Maybe I'm just old but I do agree with John on the demos being timed is a pain. 'Demo' as a term has taken as big a semantic beating as 'beta' has. If it's solely Valve's idea to make the demos available only during the event, then his arguments aren't misplaced -Valve is effectively changing what demos are It's as bad as when demos used to have a literal time limit built in.
I doubt it's Valve's idea to make the demos available for a limited time period. Steam has always hosted "proper" demos and continue to do so. I really think the developers are going for that "digital con" thing where you can only try their games while these events are still ongoing.

Unless QD games have a good discount tommorrow, Outer Wilds will probably be my last Steam purchase until the summer sale starts. Tempted to get Hot Lava, but probably will wait until it's at 50% off. I assume by the time I have time for it it will be at 50% anyways.

Im so happy I stopped buying games I know I won't play anytime soon. It was a shitty habit and Im super happy I stopped with it. Digital games don't go away (delisting is another matter that happens to maybe less than 1% of games), so I can wait for a good sale on games I don't plan on playing right away.

It's why I have yet to buy Hardspace and Sea of Thieves. Hardspace looks really good and I have played Sea of Thieves on game pass so I know I like it, but I don't have time for them so I won't buy them until I know I have time for them.

Off the top of my head before i go shopping for lunch, Risk of Rain 2?
The Original Risk of Rain was/is one of my favorite games to play with friends/my brothers and Risk of Rain 2 was able to capture that in 3d. I have more hours in the 2nd on than the first one now. It's not perfect yet but it isn't out of early access yet so I am not super worried about it since they put out updates for Risk of Rain like... years after it launched.

Hey this could be good. From the same devs of the excellent Bomber Crew.
I saw it during one of the indie stream things and got super excited because it's basically going to be an improved bomber crew but in space so it will be awesome

I doubt Valve care either way to be honest. So while I agree with his overall point on what this makes 'demos' into, his target might be a bit misguided, I'll give you.

I played the demo for Garden Story and it's very charming with a catchy music and lovable characters. It was very short and the seems like inspired by Zelda a Link to the Past, though one aspect that I may need some time to get used is the stamina bar as it's depleted too fast but I believe there will be ways to increase it for the full game.

So what is this steam loyalty thing?
I'm guessing it's a points system. In the past some stuff expired during sales but it might carry over this time? Also I think it extends to community stuff.

A chess stream has 78,000 viewers. That is surprising:

Hikaru was responsible for making it popular and he even offered to teach some Twitch Steamers how to play. He got flack from doing that from the chess community it would seem and I guess that those other chess people look down and people trying to play chess.

There was a tournament not that long ago where Charlie ended up beating XQC in just 6 moves. It didn't even last 2 min. The video got over 1.5 million views.

But ya chess has become popular with some streamers right now.

I'm pretty sure Lashman posted this when I first got here. Didn't even realize it hadn't come out until basically now. Man, a lot of long-in-the-work titles seeing the light of day in the next few months

a couple more demo impressions from yesterday: YesterMorrow seems like a decent story-driven 2D platformer, although it doesn't really give a sense of how the time-travel mechanic factors into the game's puzzles. It also feels like a Metroidvania, but the dev says it isn't?

Eastern Exorcist is a solid 2D hack-and-slash with nice art and animation, not sure how much variety the full game will offer though

I wonder if Apex Legends drops tomorrow on Steam or with the rumored Switch version?
I'm guessing that N/S should have no issues running the game because even the modified Souce Engine still scales pretty well?

But the online stuff (the very nature of the game) does worry me and it would likely not be my first option.

Actually how is Fortnite on N/S? It doesn't drop connection or anything like that (issues with Nintendo Online?)

And they might just official announce both of those version and how they will launch with Season 6.

Also TitanFall????

I hope TitanFall 1 sees a resurgence in players and also hopefully they fixed the audio issue. The game had 20GB of uncompressed audio files that make the game in total close to 50GB.

few more demo impressions:

Say NO! More: gimmicky game about learning to say "no" to overcome your hellish office job. on-rails, using mostly one button and with a low-poly PS1 art style, though I guess maybe it's most akin to Sega's Model 2 arcade games. there's no way this can sustain a full-length game, but if it stays short, it should be pretty fun
Dreamcatcher: walking simulator with some horror elements about an unemployed Chinese man navigating both real life and his dreams. nothing terribly original here and the translation is dodgy but I've played much worse in the genre, and it at least looks to have some striking visuals in some of the dream sequences
A Juggler's Tale: 2.5D cinematic platformer where everyone is a puppet, something that only really impacts the puzzle design towards the end of the demo. also, voices are way too loud. seems reasonably polished, though
Tool Boy: I confess to not actually playing this, because a 2.5D platformer having no working controller support is indefensible

I tried out the demo for Ghostrunner. It's sort of like a cyberpunk Mirror's Edge with a grappling hook and a bit more of an emphasis on combat (compared to avoiding it altogether for the most part in Mirror's Edge). I really enjoyed the original Mirror's Edge, so I was pleasantly surprised here.

I played NEO Scavenger somewhat recently, and thought it was really great. This is their next game, and it's set in the same universe. It's very different from NEO Scavenger. It looks like you'll be managing a crew on a ship, and interacting with a lot of systems in a physical way (such as in the screenshot). It's in an early state, but I think it looks very promising. Check it out.

No problem, judging by that size Sony is desperate for cooling. This means a lot of air will be moved through those tiny ventilation slots. Probably generating enough positive pressure for a small tornado in our living rooms, or at least a nice, ongoing pipe concert. On the upside that thing will always be dust free.
Reminds me when going from the original XBOX and the PS2 to the new X360 Premium (with 20 GB storage, oh my!). The original 360 sounded like a nuclear reactor when turned on.

I would have bought so many EA's games if they have achievements. They really should add them like Star Wars Squadrons.

Some more demo impressions for me.

Industria demo: Yep, can feel the half life 2 influence pretty much from the get go here, even though it's still early stages. This is now a day one perch for me.

Gloomwood demo: yep that's thief with guns. Going to give it some more time. and a couple more run throughs. Though fun has been had, but something feels a bit off right now. I think it's the idea that I'm given fps style weapons, but move like Garrett and am weak like him too, and it's incongruous to how I'm wrapping my head around playing. AM I meant to sneak about and avoid enemies or kill with impunity and the game doesn't give a good sense of what works best in a given scenario right now.

Speed Limit demo: need to get my controller charged so I can give this another go. with that. Keyboard feels awkward to play with.

Snowtopia: I suck at management and tycoon style games, but the slow pace and softer, cartoon-y art style definitely made this enjoyable. Going to try and get the wife to give it a go
