I'd say things will speed up after chapter 7 in DS, if you concentrate on the story.
It will be just another 15h or so from there.

I don't want or like to comment on external things like that, but this post was a pathetic read to me. The user need to get a grip.
Basically he said that before reading the op he thought the 'supposed' bombing was because something something, steam, the lack of an half life 3 and the fact that the last half life game featured a woman. His take about this stupid preconceived kindergarten theory was that it was awfully probable in the days we live.
Get a grip and lay down for some time please.
Be as it may, this doesn't invalidate user reviews as a whole. I know that's not what you are saying, but it makes me remember how this works in the wider gaming industry discourse. I'm a bit tired of the one bad actor out of hundreds of thousands of reviews suddenly being used to make them sound undesirable.

It feels more like an excuse to remove the ability for customers to signal others when something isn't right with the product - or just indicate its general strengths and weaknesses - than anything else. Incidentally, server issues are part of those, so yeah.

So this once, just this once, they took games out of my library and then put them back?
If only that happened more often, I wouldn't be stuck with this 7K badge...
yes volvo, please take away all of Frost's games and give them to me

:toucan:

Wanted to finish Death Stranding before Horizon came out. Welp, I'm still on Chapter 3 in DS, so much for that.
no need to rush ... take your time :)

I'm just noticing that the Fall Guys devs made the remake for Hatoful Boyfriend... then got the artist behind Hatoful and made Murder by Numbers... pretty cool.

btw, and i'm just putting it out there, but i'd play a fall pigeons game.

Night School Studio (Oxenfree, Afterparty) is seemingly exclusive to Apple Arcade.

So in other words I will never play it unless it's timed.

It's probably timed. I think Apple wants more Grindstone, and less stuff like this. I wouldn't be surprised if this hit PC 6-12 months later (...I didn't say Steam.)

Get your money, but whew, kill all your Steam momentum in the process 👍🏾

Obsidian seems to have a lot going on nowadays. New TOW content, Avowed, that bug game and now another project? Cool.

I think some people also just guffaw at the idea that 'layman' opinion is featured so prominently on a store page. Big pearl clutching and gatekeeping energy, to me anyway. I've said it again and again when user reviews come up, but that stuff is the most important thing on the store page to me. I like reading a critic's review, but that's also just one person's or a group of people's take, not the objective end-all-be-all opinion on a game. Even if players only contribute a few poorly phrased sentences about their impressions of a game, that becomes purchase-relevant input once you synthesize it together with what a large number of other people -- critics and non-critics -- felt about a game. The people that dislike user reviews and are vocal about it tend to zone in on micro issues like joke reviews, politicization, disingenuous reviews, technical reviews, overly simplistic reviews, etc. but miss the macro view value of the system, perhaps because not every user review has something profound to say about a game, and so write it off entirely.

Someone broke the embargo it would seem :

"Indeed and as we could intuit, Horizon: Zero Dawn works like a charm on PC . We had no problems keeping the game in maximum graphic quality and always offering 60 frames per second in a tower whose main components are an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 and a Ryzen 7 2700X. Everything must be said, at a resolution of 1920p ."

I wonder how a 2070 will fare at 1440p.

Seems like HZD really likes cores and threads. Guess I should hold off until an upgrade.
Good to know and I'm glad I didn't jump the gun on it. Very informative! Thanks, Durante :thumbsupblob:

My cat foresees the possibility of this having lots of fun branching choices! I can live with the bugs :>

There's no group of people in the world that hate their own customers more than Indie devs.
Lol, just take a gander at the twitter accounts of sports stars!! Most of the time its vs their own fans!!!!

Social media has brought an uncomfortable amount of access, going in both directions.

If I was famous, I'd have a twitter account by necessity but I'd have a professional publicist in charge of it and I wouldn't even want to know the password. Don't tell me about it, don't let me see it, nothing.

Anyway, Steam reviews are here to stay, steam has the best system for controlling "review bombs" bar none.

Seems like a very well-executed port.

I love that Durante's review actually goes into PCIe bandwidth usage. That's the first time I've ever seen a reviewer do that and it's something I can't commend enough :).

It's also very heartening to see how well-parallelized that game is. I know it's something that the console's design required but it's still a beauty to see function in that way.

Is that related to the David Duchovny game from a couple years earlier or was Area51 basically just remade several times in the same decade?
IIRC no:cat-heart-blob:

The full story for that is that Dictator and I were seeing significantly different performance results on our 2080ti's and couldn't figure out why. Yesterday, while writing the article (and always thinking about that in the back of my mind) I remembered what a pain it was to get a consumer-platform mainboard where I can use all my NVME storage and peripherals without reducing the number of lanes to the GPU. And I also had the significant impact of loading on multi-core scaling fresh in mind, leading to the idea that the game streams a lot of data. So we used a small program to measure our respective PCIe throughput and there it was.

I believe Alex will have a more in-depth look at the precise impact of it in his analysis.

At first I was like "it's not so bad..."
And then I remembered why I stopped caring about these mid 2000s PC games being re-released on Steam like 15 years later (for the most part).
Yeah.... First pic looks ok, then the horror of bloom, 2003 era character models and what can only be described as "grey green" appear.

Fallout 3 and GTA IV needed emergency pc modding intervention as not to burn retinas.

This is actually quite crazy, it means people might be sitting on a lot of performance and not know it. So who had his GPU plugged into the 8x PCIe port? Or was it a software problem?

This was a fascinating anecdote by the way, thanks for sharing.

Alex had a 8x connection due to the 16x port the GPU was using sharing lanes with the port he used for his capture card, IIRC.

The thing is that existing analyses of lots of PC games show that people aren't really sitting on a lot of performance, because in the vast majority of games switching between 8x and 16x does very little (or nothing measurable at all).

Seems like the Steam version of PSO2 is out now (I can't check though since I'm working xd).
LINKING YOUR ACCOUNTS
There are two ways to link your Xbox Live and Steam accounts; initiating the process from the Steam platform, or from the Xbox One or Windows 10 platform. In each case, you’ll begin the process from the platform that you have been using. We’ll outline the process for both.

If you’d like to begin using the Steam platform to play PSO2 and want to link your Xbox One or Windows 10 account:

  • From the Support Menu within the Start Menu of the Windows 10 or Xbox One version of PSO2, select the option to issue an account-linking code. This code will expire after 15 minutes.
  • After launching PSO2 on the Steam platform, select your Ship and then enter the code from the previous step. Please be careful: you can only use this code when setting up your account on a new platform for the first time. Do not create a new character/set up a Player ID before linking your account.
  • Success! The operative can now play using the same PSO2 save data on either their Xbox Live or Steam Account ID.
Fuck, I will have to redownload the win10 version goddamn it.

That's actually really surprising to me. With how much memory bandwidth and near zero-latency copies were supposed to matter, in games streaming stuff in and out so much I would have thought that port to be bottlenecked all the time.
