20 Minute Metropolis - The Action City Builder

Construct the infrastructure to rebuild civilization. Set up supply lines, mine skyscrapers for plastics, and find a place to process all the poop your people will generate. You have twenty minutes.

Farms generate food—those are the green dots you see below. All food is bright green. That's how you know it's fresh.

Build apartments. People will take in food and generate work. And they'll poop. But you don't have to worry about the poop right now.

Trails will convey resources like food and work between buildings. There's a limit to the volume of resources they can carry at any given time, so you'll need to plan your layout carefully.

Extend your reach by cutting through forest and... Uh oh...

So, you build a landfill to take care of the poop. Where was I? Cut through forest to get to ancient skyscrapers, which you'll mine for metals and plastics—you're an ace recycler!

Time to expand to other forests! But try not to tear them all down. Set up a water turbine and energy transmitters to power your search for more trees. And build some parks for points. Now you're cooking. Build a dozen high rises. More parks!

You just rebuilt an entire civilization in 20 minutes! That's no mean feat. Heck, it's going to take folks 30 minutes to do it in the sequel.

Paradise Killer

An island outside of reality. A rogue human civilization hoping to resurrect dead alien gods. A murder behind locked doors.

Paradise is an island that regenerates every few millennia. The psychic power that the alien worshipers within release into the universe is meant to feed and eventually resurrect their fallen deities. But this force also attracts undesired interest from demons, who eventually corrupt each island — until a new alternate reality is birthed by the Council.

The system isn’t perfect, but it will be one day — on Perfect 25, the next island-to-be. But on the eve of rebirth, the Council is murdered and Paradise is killed.

In the aftermath, the “investigation freak” Lady Love Dies is summoned from exile to find the culprit. This is the crime to end all crimes.

What are the facts? What are the truths? Are they the same?

You are tasked with finding the killer and building an airtight case against them. Take your case to trial and argue your interpretation of the evidence. Only when someone is successfully convicted can the crime be considered solved and Paradise be saved.

The “truth” is that there are many possible killers, and many ways to build a case. Even if you make a convincing case for prosecution and get someone convicted, is the mystery really solved?

Paradise is an island set in an alternate future history filled with cryptic lore and even more mysteries. Examine bizarre relics to learn more about this world’s surreal history.

You choose who to accuse, and build a case to support conviction. Everyone on Paradise has a secret to hide and something to gain. Old friends become new suspects, forcing you to choose between the evidence, the greater good and your own beliefs. There are many possible murderers, but who you pick will define your own personal truth.

Let your personal computer and electronic assistant Starlight be your guide through another dance of an investigation. Collect evidence, record testimony and interpret the facts to form your own truth.

Solve hieroglyph puzzles on ancient nightmare computers to discover new areas of the island, find concealed evidence and reveal terrifying secrets.

STRIDE

STRIDE will be released in two phases:

The first phase will be STRIDE Arcade and will consist of three modes, each released separately and in short succession.

The second phase of the release will be the complete story version of the game. We are working on this parallel with the Arcade Modes and will announce the official release date as soon as it’s confirmed.

California Games

Ask anyone who considered themselves a true gamer in 1987 and the chances are they will fondly remember California Games. Whether it was the original release on the Commodore 64, the slightly-cut-down version that came with the Atari Lynx, or a port from any one of around a dozen other platforms, sun-drenched sports played by the tanned and beautiful were the order of the day.

Now available officially on Steam for the first time, you too can enjoy the six radical and awesome events.

Appearing in many website and magazine ‘top 100 games of all time’ lists, California Games appealed equally to male and female gamers, something considered rather unusual at the time. Easy to play but hard to master, the game often led to playground arguments about which event was the best… arguments that can (maybe) now be settled once and for all!

So get ready to put your shades on, turn the stereo up nice and loud, and go gnarly to the max with a sweet 720 kick-flip backwards ollie. Or something like that, anyway...

Necromunda: Underhive Wars

Deep below the nightmarish, polluted hive cities of Necromunda, in the twisted, vertiginous, dark tunnels of the Underhive, rival gangs fight to the bitter end for personal power, wealth, survival and the honour of their Houses. Only the strongest survive.

Lead, customize, and grow your gangs of Escher, Goliath, and Orlock. Specialize each member and send them to battle in hazardous dystopian environments. Exploit the terrain in tactical gunfights: climb raised walkways to take advantage, set traps, and ambush foes to force them into bloody melee engagements.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

The hit RPG returns! From the minds of the bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston, comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Remastered with stunning visuals and refined gameplay Re-Reckoning delivers intense, customizable RPG combat inside a sprawling game world.

Uncover the secrets of Amalur, from the vibrant city of Rathir to the vast region of Dalentarth to the grim dungeons of the Brigand Hall Caverns. Rescue a world torn apart by a vicious war and control the keys to immortality as the first warrior ever to be resurrected from the grips of death.

Ostranauts

Ostranauts is a detailed simulation of owning and living aboard a spaceship, in a solar system where honest living is a slow death sentence. Set in the NEO Scavenger universe, where Earth has suffered cataclysmic collapse, the rest of the System lives on in a state of capitalist dystopia.

Players will create their captain, use the spoils of their career history to build or restore a working ship, and find ways to keep their motley crew in line, fuel in their tanks, food on their plates, and the debt collectors at bay.

Players can build their ship, in any shape, from functioning modular parts. The parts have physical properties, they interact with each other, and can wear out over time.

Crew members have physiological and emotional needs, ranging from basal needs like food, water, oxygen, and temperature, to more esoteric needs like privacy, security, intimacy, and esteem.

Ostranauts is a detailed simulation, with many interdependent systems. Players will have to manage supplies, emotions, power grids, finances, security, social ties, and more to keep their enterprise alive, both literally and figuratively.

Each crew member runs an AI that is constantly making choices based on their current needs and past experience. If one colleague is consistently comforting, and another threatening, an AI will seek out the former when they need security.

Socializing with crew uses a system a lot like NEO Scavenger's combat, where players have social moves that can affect their moods and which replies are available. There are also single-use social moves that can be earned and used in this system to help in managing the encounter.

You flip the switches, turn the knobs, and see the readouts of your ship's systems.

Just like in NEO Scavenger, the game is rich with hidden lore for those who want to seek it. Colonies and factions have long histories. Everyday products have brands and marketing. Unexplained phenomena have rumors echoing through the media and hidden files. And for those that don't care, it doesn't get in the way.

The tech-level in Ostranauts is near-future, but plausible. There is no faster-than-light travel, no sound in a void, no dogfighting, nor force fields. On the other hand, some ultra tech exists for the purposes of aesthetics and storytelling. E.g. fusion efficiency, cooling, and radiation shielding are enhanced. FTL texting is possible (albeit expensive and low-bandwidth). And the unexplained supernatural events seen in NEO Scavenger are not limited to Earth.

The challenge of Ostranauts is in the decisions it presents, not the player's endurance or reaction time. It plays in real-time with pause and fast-forward, to allow players to play at their own pace (similar to other management sims). Players should be able to take a break when they need to, and resume later. Similarly, players can fast-forward if they get bored, with the game auto-stopping when something requires the player's attention.

Josh Culler, composer of the haunting NEO Scavenger soundtrack, is back again with an all-new body of work, specifically crafted for Ostranauts.

Most of the game's data is in plain-text files for easy access. Modders who want to make their experience more unique will be able to edit a wide variety of game data.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York

You’re a nobody. An outcast in your own vampiric sect. A political prisoner of no particular value. An immigrant who never found her roots in a city of immigrants. A chainsmoker whose favorite pastime is staring blankly at the streets through the windows of a fast food joint at 4AM. The sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach tells you that you’re doomed, and distorted voices from the shadows seem to agree. The curse of your clan makes interacting with everyday technology difficult. Dissociation is your natural state.

But when New York’s Anarch leader meets a gruesome end, out of all the bloodsuckers in the metropolis, you’re the one picked to investigate. Make no mistake: this is obviously a trap, yet another move in the horrible game of Jyhad, the eternal struggle for power between warring vampire generations. But you’re Lasombra, and if there’s one thing you know, it’s this: if the Ventrue Prince and her followers underestimate you, they’re going to deeply regret it.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York is a visual novel set in the rich universe of Vampire: The Masquerade. It acts as a stand-alone expansion and a companion piece to our previous title, Coteries of New York. While Coteries was a general introduction to the world depicted in the 5th Edition of the hit tabletop role-playing game, Shadows presents a more personal and unique tale.

Hotshot Racing

Hotshot Racing is a blisteringly fast arcade-style racing game fusing drift handling, razor-sharp retro visuals and an incredible sense of speed to create an exhilarating driving experience.

16 racing circuits provide the twists, turns and straights conducive to searingly quick racing. Take in coastal, jungle, alpine and Las Vegas desert environments, with each course modelled with the most vivid colours and blue skies for miles.

Time Trial and Grand Prix modes cater to those who like to compete in classic racing formats, while ‘Cops and Robbers’ and ‘Drive or Explode’ modes offer exhilarating new ways to play.

Each mode is available in single-player, four-player split-screen and eight-player online, while Time Trial is single-player only. Single-player modes run at a blistering 60FPS to deliver one of the fastest depictions of racing possible.

Smash lap records to rise-up the global online leaderboards or download ghost laps to match your racing lines against the very best.

Keiko, Xing, Mike, Alexa, Aston, Toshiro, Marcus and Viktor - eight speed addicts that have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of being the greatest racing driver in the world.

Drifting is crucial in Hotshot Racing. Boost charges as the player drifts so maintaining it for as long as possible is vital to preserving maximum speed throughout a race.

In this mode each car has a bomb attached to it. Drop below a certain speed and BOOM! The trigger speed gets faster and faster, forcing players to maintain impossibly high speeds.

Robbers evade the cops. Cops catch the robbers, and in doing so convert them to the police side, leading to an exciting test of skill for the surviving criminals.

Earn boost by drifting and slipstreaming opponents and unleash a one-shot hit of speed to leave them in your rear view mirror.

BPM: BULLETS PER MINUTE

Fight as a mighty Valkyrie to repel the forces of the underworld from invading the world of Asgard.

In BPM, all of your actions and the actions of your enemies are tied to the beat of the music. Your enemies perform a dance-like sequence of attacks to an epic rock opera. BPM is inspired by retro shooters of the 90’s. It is fast, frenetic and rhythmical. You can double jump, dash, rocket jump and bunny hop to evade your opponents.

Your goal is to reach the end of randomly generated dungeons, collecting different weapons, abilities and items each time you play. These weapons and abilities can radically alter the way you play, making each playthrough unique.

You must defeat 7 bosses to reach the final boss. Each boss moves and attacks in a unique way that you must learn to exploit if you want to succeed. Some attacks require you to jump over fields of lava, some to dodge fast projectiles, some to hold fast for a beat.

Make use of the detailed sea map to avoid stormy weather regions, cliffs or shallow waters. Fulfill tasks for your nation’s viceroy, earning more fame to unlock town buildings, ships and more. Conquer the cities of rival nations or hunt down their fleets with a letter of marque while also keeping a keen eye out for pirates and other privateers.

For the first time in the series, naval battles will be turn-based, with up to 8 ships battling at one time and tactical captain maneuvers that can turn the tide in even the most hopeless of situations for a glorious victory.

Baldur's Gate 3

Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.

Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.

From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Choose from a wide selection of D&D races and classes, or play as an origin character with a hand-crafted background. Adventure, loot, battle and romance as you journey through the Forgotten Realms and beyond. Play alone, and select your companions carefully, or as a party of up to four in multiplayer.

Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.

Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a world that reacts to your choices. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before, as you venture through our biggest world yet.

The Forgotten Realms are a vast, detailed and diverse world, and there are secrets to be discovered all around you -- verticality is a vital part of exploration. Sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as you journey from the depths of the Underdark to the glittering rooftops of the Upper City. How you survive, and the mark you leave on the world, is up to you.

Niccce. I got to play Vampyr at one point but dunno if I want to keep the choice copy for myself. I remember the combat being kind of clunky.

Wow... September already! I just picked up Control earlier today, so I'm hoping to get to that next. I'm also currently working on The Missing and Raji: An Ancient Epic (both on Switch), so I want to finish at least one of those first before I do so. In terms of releases for this month... I so very rarely buy games upon release (Raji and Control are the first two in quite some time), so I most likely won't pick anything up this month right away. However...the Avengers beta was honestly surprisingly enjoyable, so I put it on my wishlist... definitely want to grab it eventually (too pricey for me at the moment, though). Mafia looks great. Untitled Goose Game looks up my alley. Paradise Killer, Ary and the Secret Seasons both look swell. There's just too many games being released! And quality ones, too. And that's just from the OP! I'm sure I'll look at Tizoc 's thread and realize there are about a dozen or two more games I want. :steam_cleanseal:

I'm really curious to see how Control runs on GeForce Now with RTX and DLSS. :wd_herewego:

On topic, picked up "Bloody Spell" and gave it a whirl... four and a half hours later i needed to stop and grab some food. Still in Early Access and i was only playing on Easy so it was damned easy especially as i had picked up equiptment and weapons in the Prologue that WAY outclass what i can buy in the Second Chapter.

It's got some promise as an action combo slasher with weapons and experience points and combo and specials unlocks but needs a lot of polish on the English translation, story cuscenes, transitions and just making sense but eh, for £5 i'm sure i'll get my money's and time's worth. Don't want to say "Souls-like" but it's definitely an inspiration. Harder difficulties have more aggressive and responsive AI and i'll find out what carries over between sessions when i play next time though it looks like they've toned down the death penalties from what was announced but that may be because it's easy difficulty. Dunno.

The DLC tho, phew, poor lasses are fanserviced to heck and back. I'm sure the Priestess' boobs would detach irl. The extra cash is another revenue stream to support the devs and enable the devs to continue work on the game. It's all cosmetic and optional as you can unlock it all in-game apparently but hey the game has Steam Workshop support so i'm sure someone has made some tasteful models and clothes for them... oh dear god.

So last month, I knocked out: The Touryst (Supports 60+fps now thankfully), Creature in the Well, Sheepo (nice 3-4hr metroidvania), Spiritfarer, and Horizon Chase Zero. I thought I did more, but I guess I never finished Iconoclasts. I should probably do that before I forget.

September's going to be stupid with releases.

Also lashman I have a request, before you close this thread can you also attach that One Greenday song as the last thing for this month? Under the link that will lead to the October thread? That is all I ask.

Sega Looking To Bring Yakuza Ishin To The West They Just Need To Find The Right Time

Recent years has been great for Yakuza fans, after years of not knowing if we would get Yakuza in the West it’s pretty much a guarantee these days that we will get every game. Before Yakuza 0 was a big hit Western audiences did miss out of some Yakuza games such as Yakuza Kenzan and Yakuza Ishin that still haven’t made their way to these shores.

In a recent interview with Rocket Beans Gaming Senior Localisation Producer Scott Strichart explained that Sega both in America and Japan wants to bring Yakuza spin offs to the West but just need to find a place in the schedule for it. Scott also explained that one issue is trying to bring all the Yakuza games to the West without over saturating the market which is the main holdup. He had the following to say:

“We’re interested in doing what Japan’s goanna do at this point. We absolutely recognise there are some holes in the backlog that we want to do and Japan wants us to do. It’s literally just a matter of finding space for them on the slate. Like you said there’s over saturation issues, do we stop doing new things to put out old things? Do we put out the old thing in the middle of working on the new thing? Then say please buy both? There’s definitely an issue there with over saturating the market. That’s where we’ve kinda landed on that unfortunately. As much as we all wanna do it we need to find the time and space.”

While this is not a confirmation that they’re working on the translation it’s nice to see the spin-off games are on their mind and they have plans in motion. With the recent success of Ghost of Tsushima many hoped this would spur Sega into bringing their Samurai games over.

Pretty much the same thing they said during an interview back in 2018, but nevertheless it's good to know it's still on the table and that RGG is on board with it.
