Nice bundle:

I'm tempted to get Low Magic Age as part of the bundle (using the complete the bundle option).
I'll never get enough wallet funds to buy STAR WARS: Squadrons at this rate, before it launches, right? :confounded-face:
If you have waited this long to play Low Magic Age, then just save your card cash for Squadrons if you want to play it right at release.

And look at the scene at 27:05...
Yeah, and tellingly Devolver have not released any tangible gameplay videos, and it's down to streamers only to do so.
The day before it comes out...
Were you all expecting a "serious" shooter?

Just take a look at this cutscene from Serious Sam 2.

Is it trashy? Yes.
Is it breaking the fourth wall? Yes.
Is it barely funny? Yes.
Is the player running from arena to arena, killing stupid amounts of enemies along the way? Yes.
Is it getting tiresome after an hours? Yes.

It's Serious Sam, always has been.

It's one of those cases where the audience has moved forward and they haven't caught-up.

We'll see. I wouldn't be shocked if the fans still like it.
Personally I hoped for some kind of evolution, but I'm not surprised. Will probably pick it up during a sale.
But no matter what, I can not denie that this looks like an authentic Serious Sam experience.

I have a buddy who is a fervent Serious Sam fan and I just don't get it. He tricked me into coop on a few of the old ones and never again. He has been anticipating SS4 like other people are anticipating Cyberpunk.

it's a franchise that simply exists somehow and no one knows why, like [...] King's Bounty
King's Bounty exists solely because of people like my dad and I, who played a lot of Heroes of Might and Magic 3/4 and want more of the same kind of experience. I bought every game in that series for him to play, and will probably do the same with King's Bounty 2.

Serious Sam has fans?
I always had the impression it's a franchise that simply exists somehow and no one knows why, like Sniper Ghost Warrior or King's Bounty
Even as a PC aficionado, it has always been baffling to me that these games exist and people like them and buy them (I'm sure I own some of them on Steam >.<).

It's bizarre for sure, but it's also the kind of thing PC allows and I'd love to encourage more of, so I'm more than happy to see people like weird things. Except anime.

It's not like HOMM though, it's like... King's Bounty. Less strategy, more RPG. Kind of like a WJRPG, with touching enemies to initiate self contained somewhat strategic battles but with little in the way of long game strategy like HOMM has, just leisurely exploring, progressing through the stories, seeing the nice fresh environments, troops and surprises the game has in store for you. I loved the first reboot, The Legend, I don't see why anyone would think it doesn't have fans. I thought it was top tier despite the so so translation which often broke the humour as it's a light hearted game. The games that followed seemed too samey and it was quite long so I had my fill but I'll give 2 a try as it seems to differ more, it's been long enough. A dozen years later it still looks great. I loved the first trailers:

It's the only game I wrote a review for back when I worked for a now defunct website, otherwise I just wrote news, I really wanted to rave about it. 4,5/5 stars.

Serious Sam is one of those "but it's fun with friends" kind of games. The sort where they aren't very fun, but they're just brainless enough that you can focus more on talking with people over voice chat than the game itself.

Playing them solo is seriously mind-numbing. The first few levels in each game usually have a bit more structure and can be kind of amusing, but once you reach the mid-game, it's just gigantic arenas and endlessly holding S+M1.

Man the amount of people that go the "you're not entitled to anything/they don't owe you anything" way to defend Sony making people pay for next gen versions of games they own is fucking funny.

I'd also like to punch every single person who randomly use the word entitled in the face several times. I'm entitled to that.

I'd argue the hex-based combat is very similar, and HoMM has always had at least some RPG elements in its heroes: leveling them up, increasing their stats, equipping them with items, learning skills, etc. This was even more of a focus in 4 with its hero classes and the heroes themselves participating in combat (and 5 even had a skill wheel, but that was post-New World Computing).
Both series were created by Jon Van Caneghem so it's not surprising that they can feel similar, even if the concept is different.

I liked 1 a lot, other than the 10-minutes long arenas. But there is an undeniable fun to facing hordes of mook to stupid music playing. It's the junk food of shooters without being pretentious. At least the first one was. 3 was completely dumb to me, with this strange "let's do middle-east and assault riffles!" decision.

I hope 4 returns to more exotic, beautiful and kind of stupid locations, in a good way.

I liked King's Bounty a lot! Never finished it for some reason but it's the only HOMM-like I ever got into.

I didn't say there's no RPG in HOMM or no strategy in KB. I think the overarching map/rival strategy that's completely missing in KB is a defining HOMM feature.

I sort of explained that in the part you cut from the quote. It's also the main reason I don't like (but still respect early) HOMM, not my genre, KB hit the mark :)

Goose already at #2
Let's see if it lasts very long. I get the feeling it might move some units in the first few days and plummet off the top 10 pretty fast after that.

That's not it. It's clearly that other slayer

coming to the Xbox Game Pass.
If it means I can finally play the first game, DO IT

Serious Sam formula:
Enemies everywhere. Ok
Let's add more. Well
Let's add more. What
Let's add more. This is getting stupid
Let's add more, much more. You kidding me, now that's fun :gunblob:

Just saw the MGS thing. So what are we expecting? GOG release of the old ports? That would be super disappointing. I mean, it's cool that the original MGS isn't being left behind but the HD collection is what I really want on PC. :/

I'd ask what the fuck Konami is thinking but I almost expect it to not even be them. They don't seem to care anymore. I could easily see it just being someone licensing from them like with Zone of the Enders 2.

I really am enjoying Desperados III but my only gripe is that now that i'm on the later levels missions go from being able to finish in a night to taking 3-4 nights to complete. Im on chapter 3 and there are some great levels, i just wish it didnt take me so long to get through them. I want to finish the story.

Usually they have a really short exclusivity window...I hope that's also the case because I would gladly play them another time asap.
yeah, here's hoping ... i'd even buy those re-releases tbh

It's not the GOG part that I have a problem with. I wouldn't mind getting them from there if there was no chance of them coming to Steam. I just wish it was a new port of the HD collection. If they're just dumping the old ones then there's no reason to think they're willing to put the effort into porting the rest of the series.

That is an accurate insight into the serious sam formula. Add enemies until someone starts giggling hysterically in the room.

I'm a fan, or at least admirer, of the franchise. Not a huuuuge fan by any means. There was this streamer showing SS4, but for a so called expert/fan of the franchise he really sucked at picking the correct weapon for the enemies he was facing and blaming the game instead of himself

That's what I'd hope. Full pc release of the HD legacy collection the PS3 got or nothing really.
