#9. mean, #9 is his GOTY, and there is a quote with Javetus name there.
Then it seems like more people than Javetus appreciate the subtle joys of obscure turned mass market excel arc grand strategy gaming! All is well, and nothing to complain about

I'm very happy and pleasantly surprised at Alyx's position

Got good taste, MC, you alright :coffee-blob:
What's even more shocking is that not everyone has access to VR. That fact reinforces the trend it points to : that a huge portion of those that have played it unanimously voted it as GOTY for it to make up for that disparity in platform population.

I think Alyx's placement in the GOTY makes sense in a way because most of us with 10+ years Steam account has fond memories of Half-Life. Combined with the fact that the age demographics here is slightly older and we have higher purchase/buying power which facilitates ownership of VR headsets.

Well, that and maybe Alyx is actually a good game too. :dana_wink:

It's pretty impressive how good and well-received HLA is, honestly. There were a million things they could have messed up with it, but they didn't. Also, it was a very good choice to return to HL with a VR game (which is also not a sequel), since it somewhat resets expectations.

What's an affordable VR Set? IIRC a $300 or so Samsung set was good but can't remember the exact model.

Is GMG still the cheapest place to get Nioh 2 from ? I think they have a code payway to get $9USD off the game. Which is not bad seeing how they do have limited launch DLC for the game that if you don't claim you will not get it. I think it's 2 different character skins for those interested.

By the way miles morales ultimate launch edition is still $70USD, it seems that some places still have it in stock. Gamestop doesn't seem to have the game available to ship to home anymore so I guess that they will run out of it soon enough. I think I'm just going to order a copy next month just to be on the safe side of things.

As with the GOTY thing that is surprising, I thought Hades would have won.

Also yay Yakuza was #3, I voted for that one since that's the one I played the most last year of 2020 games.

I finally got a layout for Elite Dangerous that I'm getting used.

Now to learn how to mine because even after the mining tutorial I think I missed something as I'm shooting this asteroid for minutes and still no chunk

Edit: i'm dumb. I dont have mining lasers on my ship :toucan:
Also know that later on, you get what's called mining limpets, that are used along with a limpet collector system. It means you don't have to fly manually to the chunks you break off, and it makes mining actually usable :p. They are little drones that collect things and deposit them directly into your cargo hatch for you.

They are little space minions and I love them all.

Mining gets even more interesting later on and I think that it's the one space game where it was actually bearable to do. Not the most fun activity that I'd pick by choice but there's a giddy excitement I get at hearing the woomph of a rock broken up by space-TNT and flying inside the crystalline fog to break off and harvest those sweet opals.

Good to know, thanks!

The game is overwhelming at first but there is something that already clicked with me.

I have my qualms with it, with the bedrock it's built upon and that ultimately made it fail for me, but there is no denying the joy to be found there. It's a little kid's spaceship "press all the buttons" simulator and it has a lot of wonderful things in store.

I enjoyed the time i spent with Elite Dangerous. I found the best way to make money was taking part in those community events. I wasn't making much progress just trading up until those started coming up. Mining was fun for a bit. There is a lot of options in how to play but it does get a bit samey after a while.

Playing it in VR was amazing.

GMG discount code is only 18% off while you can get a 20% off on Humble Bundle even if you are not a Choice subscriber although you would need to ask somebody else to send you the 20% discount to be able to purchase the game.

Half way through Alan Wake
Ya know what would make the combat better? If the damned radar wouls tell me where enemies are. Like shit the fact that it only tells you where to go is a waste, if notes enemy location it'd make it easier to avoid back attacks for one thing :V

Still enjoying it but dang do episodes get LONG

Welp, picked up Nioh 2 on cdkeys. Beat my self imposed barrier of at least beating three games after Yakuza 7 before buying it rather quickly. Also doesn't help that I gave up on picking up a new monitor for the time being because of desk space and getting more and more depressed the longer I looked at it so that sped up me picking it up, too.

In other news, I started Outer Wilds and it seems really neat so far. I think one of the most impressive feats in videogames will always be moving parts and the timing of them to me. Wonder when the mind blowing comes (though I have been spoiled on some stuff but whatevs) but so far I really like the vibe of the game.

It's a bit over 30€ on cdkeys if you feel comfortable using the site

I am enjoying AC Valhalla far more than i expected to enjoy it. Bringing back option to assassinate enemies with one hit (yes i have that option turned on) helps a lot. Having your settlement helps too. But most importantly writing and characters are way better than in Origins and Odyssey. And making you spend more time with those characters helps too. I would even say that world is also designed well and those environmental puzzles while rudimentary add bit flavor to exploration.

No because your pricing is asinine and you put this game on a shit discount twice a year.
For what it's worth, for Ryza 2, GMG and Humble (*with Choice membership) have a pretty decent discount for a new release (20-24% off)

Still a lot better than the $90 asking price for AAA games these days.

I have no idea why I’m getting called on this?

edit: ah wait, I’m guessing it’s from that “unpopular opinions” thread on Era.

Tbh I stand by what I said there; it’s a premium experience and that’s fine, just own it

To be fair, we will be on a vacation too if we can find any RTX 30xx GPU like dex. :dana_blanket:

But alas...

:dana_tense:
Yeah I'm slowly wrapping my mind around building a new PC. The machine I have was built in 2012(?) (i72600, 1060GTX) and it has been a real workhorse, still runs most everything great. I wanted to keep my 1060 and it wouldn't cost that much. But then I see those shiny puddles....

Ray tracing is cool, but that one board costs far more than the whole machine combined.

Reason: 2012 I think? Not the 1060 of course...

I think there's something deeply fucked up when a single graphics card costs more than an entire overpriced Apple laptop. One day, I'd like to know the manufacturing cost of one of those, to know what sort of margins are made.
We've got so much weird stuff going on, covid, bitcoin, some rare earth element undersupply that's fucking up some chip, scalpers, worldwide shipping being kinda overloaded, etc. I doubt they're interested in not selling cards by asking too high a price. I'm sure somebody here knows why exactly. It's probably a convergence of problems nvidia and amd would like to see go away too.

At this point you have better luck buying a prebuilt with a 3070 than actually building your own pc. I think I saw a few go for like 1300 or 1400$ during the holidays.

Those new 3060 laptops for 1000$ will be a good deal too whenever they release. Especially with Nvidia saying they are faster than the PS5. They should last you 4-5 years for gaming plus its a laptop which has its own additional perks. The 3070 and 3080 laptops gonna be 🔥🔥🔥 but probably too pricey.

Yeeeesh.. At this point, people will never upgrade from the 1060 and 1070.

RIP PC gaming. :suicide-blob:
I would have shelled out right away for a 3080, but with all the fuckery, I've completely lost interest. I see that Nvidia and others are still making new hardware announcments, but I don't pay any attention, because I know that it will be just another disappointment in the end. So why bother? The plan now is that when my PC finally is unable to run anything remotely current, I'll worry about it then. Or better yet, find something else to do. These companies are their own worst enemy. Between the unavailability and piss poor communication, their ability to encite a "meh" from me is unmatched by any other industry. The same goes for the gaming software side, for reasons we've all hashed over many times. Meh.

Once the pandemic is over (🤞) and things start going back to normal it will get better. But I do wonder what will happen with TSMC fully booked.
