Im not sure if I should feel bad about it, but Im playing the Bowser Fury world from the Switch version of Mario 3D World via emulator.

I have played 3D World to death on my Wii U and I just cannot get myself to use 70$ (yes, thats Nintendo first party pricing here converted to USD) just to play Bowsers Fury which apparently lasts more or less 3 hours.

Fuck you Nintendo. You are making shit hard for me.

So
I tested Duckstation with Gex 3 and...it looks pretty. It is a game you should try it out for yourself. Here is how I set it up on duckstation on my end

If you enable this it should choose the crt shader automatically, otherwise try whatever is offered by the emu, the dolphin one is great overall IMO

If your rig can handle it, try higher MSAA values but usually 2x is enough ^^; Try Supersampling AA and see if you like that more, but for MSAA is doing the job perfectly.

I've been using D3D11 it seems but it or Vulkan ought to get the job done well.

...but yeah if you set the emu like that, run Gex 3 and the visuals clarity will be evident from the intro cutscene. Seriously, if you've been wanting to go through some ye olde PSOne games, duckstation ist he way to go now, and it's a good time to go through them.

The funny thing about 20% taxes (it varies between European countries) is that I live in a "special" area in Europe-Africa which has a very unique tax (7%) but I get charged a 21% tax (Spain) on digital games because Valve is not operating in the EU I believe. Amazon Spain for instance charges me 7% taxes only on the other hand.

It's much easier to set up than say ePSXe if one seeks a standalone option. I know some would recommend Mendafen, but I couldn't get beetle ps hw to work properly and set it up using it ^^;
So basically, if one wants an easy and quick to use psone emu that is standalone, duckstation is worth using. It also has a built in cheat/gameshark menu that offers cheats per game being played.

I seem to recall we had a discussion about this at some point. Did the PGXP not working well for you? On some games you have to disable one of the features otherwise you'll be experiencing texture glitches. I think Vagrant Story was one of them.

Finished Metal Unit!
Pretty fun ~10 hour trip. I finished the story and did some extra "farming". Still a challenge mode, some skins and passives to unlock, equipment to craft and skill tree to max, but I think I'm good for now.
The story turned out to be kinda whatever (had potential, but execution was lacking) and it's missing some QoL UI stuff, but fun overall.

I think I'll move on to a different kind of metal with Valfaris and then go back to my remaining backlog blitz games.

Yes, I set it to default resolution. Apparently Croc 1 has widescreen gameshark cheat of sorts, so if you set the emu to output 16:9 and use that cheat it should play in widescreen also.

I seem to recall we had a discussion about this at some point. Did the PGXP not working well for you? On some games you have to disable one of the features otherwise you'll be experiencing texture glitches. I think Vagrant Story was one of them.

For the most part yes, PGXP works well for the games I had it on like Gex 3 and 40 Winks.

They got Joe Taslim for SubZero too so at the very least the fight scenes gonna be good.
