He's mostly known for the Twisted Metal games and being the director of the first two God of War. He went indie a while back and, as far as I'm aware, every single game he's made since has been kinda shit and flopped. He hasn't been relevant in quite a while, and the last I heard of him he was out of gamedev entirely and doing some weird talk show thing on Twitch.

Not sure what he's up to now. I unfollowed him on twitter a year or two back because he was starting to give me some real sketchy vibes.
Jaffe only directed the first GoW. GoW2 was directed by Cory Balrog who is also responsible for GoW 2018.

Compared to OS 2:

That I have to pick up every item dropping from enemies separately
The quest journal is just a log, makes it hard to follow
Worse inventory UI, the amount of loot makes it hard to get a good overview what I have and compare it to what I currently have equipped
Overall the UI feels harder to get a good overview off
Not found any skill management yet

So far. Im just 2.8 hours into the game, so things can change. There was something about the combat that I remember felt off, but don't remember what it was.
OS 2 had some really nice quality of life improvements, yeah. The journal is probably the biggest offender, which I often found pretty unhelpful and I think some quests even "got stuck", and never updated any more.
Still, the actual game is really damn good.

More i play Dying Light more conflicted i am. If I play it with gamepad it is more convenient because you have most things at the tips of your fingers but turning around and some movement is junky. If you play it with M&K you are more agile but keys are all over the keyboard and in tight situations you can hit wrong key.

On top of that mission design really isn't that good and to be honest map design has it's issues too.

Parkour is much better in Mirrors Edge because you can chain actions in more seamless way so it feels soo smooth when you pull some awesome movement combo.

games withour borderless mode or borderless mode that somehow behaves like windowed mode are the bane of my existence just like fall damage
I feel the same about games that don't offer a proper exclusive fullscreen mode :)

Yeah, when I opened the game up yesterday, the last save was from 2016 (steam cloud) and I remembered the reason I quit the game was because I didn't know what to do to progress the story and now Im following whatever guides/tips that can give me help to progress the story without spoiling too much.

If I retire the game it is only because I get stuck in the story because everything else is really good (even if OS 2 does it better). The quest overview in OS 2 is much better and I didn't have much problem progressing in OS 2 at, just used a guide "here and there".

All that might sound negative, but it is really just a statement how better Larian have become a developer and how much they positively progressed with OS 2, for my tastes.

I also never finished Original Sin because the narrative always lost me.

Like yeah I'm exploring and fighting enemies along the way, but why were we here again? What were we doing, exactly?

How I relate to that one! I enjoyed it in a way because it felt like the game wasn't trying to direct me too hard, that I had to use my head and it worked in the context of that murder mystery, but I think it still oversteered there. That being said, overall I think it has a much better mood and cohesion, especially the first chapter.

You can probably also spot the amount of assets reused from DOS1 to 2 now :p.

About the whole gacha thing.

I started the recent Dragon Quest Tact (what a superbly stupid name) yesterday, and so I have little thoughts on it, but...
It is a tactical gacha. That must involve grinding like a motherfucker. That must get boring at some point.
And the dev
locked super fast animations behind a monthly sub

You got to respect that level of predation, that whole aging Brandy of shit.

My good sir!
I do not know which i find more offensive;
That you think we are Christian or that we are somehow pious!
My friend, you forgot one possibility !
...that I was too lazy to look for the equivalent for each big religion :cryblob:

And at the risk of being edgy... I'm somewhat annoyed you could think of me as a supporter for persons whose idea of a good time was to boil other people alive and recently diversified their hobbies by including abusing children :thinking-blob:

Believe it or not I spent most of my weekend building a powerbi dashboard to manage my personal finances.
This is my life now... :suicide-blob:
TIL what a 'powerbi' is.
It's cool, but I can easily conclude that you are less lazy than me now.

edit -
But thank you for not accusing me of being a religious zealot ! The others were being mean :cryblob:

edit 2 -
Now if you will excuse me, I'm looking for a crucifixion model kit.

Late to the backlog discussion. Mine is vastly smaller than many people's here, yet I have already abandoned the hope of completing every game in it. It's just impossible considering my playstyle. I really hate treating games as tasks which have to be completed one-by-one. The thinking of "ok, this is done. NEXT!" never suit me, not only in gaming but also other aspects of life. I usually take on games leisurely, eg. walking around the world to examine the level design, texture and details. taking screenshots, trying to complete everything as much as possible and reflecting on what I have played after completion. Therefore, to me, time taken in actually beating a game and its aftermath are always pretty long.

Honestly, I don't have any intention to change my pace or to stop buying games. Owning games feel great. I would have purchased tons of stuff if covid did not happen. Lately I am making a purchase list on lesser-known games on retro consoles like SNES and PC Engine. Gotta say, there are so many interesting games that I want to play, and researching on and adding them into backlog is part of the fun.

It's a good thing I epic failed at learning Japanese. I would be in deep shit considering the metric ton of obscure Japanese games that caught my eyes over the years.
I recently happened upon some screenchots from Black Matrix. I felt very sad inside.
Just thinking about the topic I'm reminded of the Tengai Makyo games. And Hanjuku Hero...

Then it is I who have erred you, sirrah and ask your forgiveness.

Right now though, I'm slacking off. I plan to clear my current playthroughs then just focus on college work for the next couple of days/weeks.

Yeah, tons of interesting Japanese games that are forgotten by people in present times. Literally gold mines to gamers.

Anyone have experience with Power A brand?

Ubisoft had multiple titles in the top selling charts throughout the year, and they left Steam anyway.

I don't think MS will leave Steam soon, but all it takes is a change in leadership for this to change.
MS is playing the long game, they gonna put everything on Steam in preparation to when Gaben dies and they buy the whole shebang.

The future of Valve and Steam is an interesting topic for discussion. I think we are a good 15 years away from game streaming becoming viable as a mainstream platform but it seems like it might happen eventually. I feel that the main question is, what is Steam's role in a market where most publishers have their own streaming platforms and those become the main way that people play games?

We will probably have more services like GeForce Now, where you play what you already have, building something like VM renting for gaming is probably easy than something like Luna or Stadia, and we will probably see a increase in competition in this field.

RetroArch can be a pain in the behind when you first get to use it, but it pays off big time once you get used to it. The way in which it streamlines so many aspects of emulation is simply amazing.

Yeah it seems like a good way to custom configure individual games, but this setup is a bear.
