I'm going to admit, I have never felt it was "wrong" to pirate. I think it is a cultural thing, since that's what you did all from C64/VHS to digital ways. I do think for personal use pirating is alright. Hell the reason libraries exists is to bring culture to the people.
I do think it is wrong to pirate if you can pay for games but I won't judge people for pirating if they can't. I did grow up playing pirated home computer games because original copies were a) very hard to find and b) stupidly expensive. I started buying original copies when it became economically feasible to do so. Nowadays, between constant sales, subscriptions, giveaways etc it is easier and cheaper than ever to play games legally and I would encourage everyone to do so. That said, if that money is necessary for your basic needs, do what you have to do. Everyone deserves entertainment.

I pirated a lot of games before when I was 10 yo and around that because I didn't have any money and it was easier and more convenient to get games by pirating. These days I don't really pirate anything. My backlog is so goddamn big I can't bother pirating anything. There's only that rare occasion Im interested in a game, but very skeptical for the game, it doesn't have a demo so I pirate it and if I like it I wishlist it.

Yeah that is why I stopped pirating games back in the day, way too much to play and I didn't put any effort to try them out, so I figured if a game is good enough to play it is good enough to buy.

For music I use Spotify. For movies I have a cinema card that I pay monthly for. Other than that I do pirate some movies and TV.

Being in a situation in-between broke and making ends meet, if only barely, I have to say that I look at piracy on a case by case basis. Some games I flat-out refuse to even pirate because talking about them at all is more than the studio's actions deserve.

Maybe Resident Evil 7? Although I have the feeling it will be part of May since its the month Village will be released.
I really like past Month. I prefer a good variaty of balanced games like Elex, COntrol and Chimera instead of one AAA and the rest fillers.

No way DQXI is part of Choice lol.
Maybe RE7 was too expensive?

I can see Metro Exodus in choice tomorrow. Especially since they didn't put it in the Deep Silver BYOB.

Also Remnant, Avengers and Borderlands 3 are possible too since they've hit PS+ and PSnow recently.

I would really like Detroit. That is one that hasn't had good sale yet.

I have not really pirated any PC games in like 11 years. Totally unrelated, my Steam account is 12 years old. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

If there are no legal means of acquiring something (e.g. Regional restrictions, discontinued product, etc.) I have absolutely zero qualms about piracy and would say it is justified. Folks who frame it as an entitled position to want to experience something otherwise unavailable, uphold archaic copyright laws. If platform holders, publishers, and developers want folks to pay to play, then the onus is on them to make it available to folks. Games do not stop being relevant just because they are no longer for sale or blocked from sale in a particular country.

Even if things are legally available, there are so many nunaces that I think folks too often sweep under the rug, likely because they are not personally affected by it or they do not care. (e.g. Regional pricing, invasive DRM, etc.) That is a topic for another day, but suffice it to say, the nunaces are just too great a deal to view it as a good or bad. I think the only reason folks view it in such a way is largely due to indies and smaller publishers, which can bring up some completely fair points to consider, but is again, a topic for another post.

I was about to swear because yesterday i backed up and deleted Ace Combat 7 from my installed games because i needed the space but it looks like it's not out for a while. No problem obviously but i was about to start shouting at clouds for a while at the timing. :)

I've used a mod from NexusMods that despawns peds and cars more quickly which helps keep up the ped density even on medium density. Traffic density hasn't been a noticable problem for me. It's dense in City Centre and less so out in the sticks and industrial areas but what does need fixing is the same issue GTA had at launch where the AI pathing has not been updated to match the changes in geometry so you get peds walking in mid air where there used to be a path and traffic smashing into walls where the objects have been moved slightly.

I haven't played the 1.2 patch but hopefully they've adjusted the pathing outside your appartment by the food stand to the right. It amuses me to hear cars crunching and scraping along the embankment but it's not a good look really.

And yeah, i've spent a LOT of time walking or running through the City just having a look around or taking in the atmosphere. It really is a great piece of design work.

Cyberpunk must have been first big open world game I played where I didn't fast travel at all for the first 40 hours. And then I finally did it just to see what it was like. I think I did it one more time after that to finish Panams stuff a bit faster. It was really amazing. Every corner of every street feels fresh and new so walking around exploring was very atmospheric. I hope other open world game in the future do that too like GTA6, Elder 6, Starfield etc. It has to be so good to the point where devs can scrap fast travel and no one would complain/notice. That is what I would love to see next gen open world games achieve.

But yea pedestrian density in 2077 does need to be higher. There is a good early morning dawn feel to it in certain areas which is realistic but a bit too empty.

The program in wfsdrv is an anti-cheat kernel driver, and is installed to protect the integrity of the Another Eden experience so that all players are able to operate in a fair play-environment. This program was also reviewed by Valve and passed Steam review, and is not made to maliciously affect the end-user's computer or data.

Like good that it gets removed, but why does your anti-cheat need kernal level access.in the first place? That seems.... unsafe for a variety of reasons

This time I'm posting this in here too. I'm learning! :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

What am I talking about? Folks that have checked the co-op thread recently might be aware but in celebration of my upcoming two year anniversary on the site I'll be doing another giveaway similar to what I did last year. This time I also plan to create a thread for it.

Last time I kept it primarily in the co-op thread and I worry that gave the impression that you had to either participate in the co-op events or be a regular in the thread to join the giveaway. Everyone is welcome to enter. :blobhug:

I'll give a rundown on how to enter in the thread but like last time it will be similar to how Queen does hers. And at the moment the plan is to give away two full priced games of the winner's choosing, or multiple games totaling $60. I also have another surprise planned but I'll save that for the thread.

This game is on Geforce Now, but does not support cloud saves... so one would have to finish it in one setting. :lul:

Anyway, I have played it a bit on my local computer, it is a 2D indie game after all: the mechanics are quite original, and there are some Celeste vibes.
That being said, the execution of the moves can be stupidly hard at times, a bit as in Celeste for normal levels, or escape sequences in Ori for boss fights.
The game would have benefited from some trimming of levels as well, so to make the pace more enjoyable.

I remember that I said that Apex on Switch was playable and stuff and well on PC I have a 0.8 K/D and on N/S it's a 3.6 K/D !!!!!!!!! That's insane. There was one point where on Switch I had a 10 kill streak. It may have been even higher but we were killed by the ring. For some reason it seems like the main way that I die in the switch version is fork the ring and that seems to apply to others as well. There was even one round were we didn't even fight anyone and yet we won because the other teams were outside of the ring. It sure was something

I see it in all shades of grey. I haven't pirated anything on PC in ages, but I think it's absolutely fucking absurd that I cannot just openly play PS3 games I own on PS3 on my PC. So you'd better believe I don't give one shit about that sort of thing. I mean game licenses aren't even supposed to be multi-user. And technically buying stuff like the Mario3D collection on Switch is immoral, IMO. Actually more moral to pirate that nth, limited time re-release with no effort put in.

I just realized its been a couple years since Castlevania SotN + Rondo came to PS4 and still exclusive.

Seriously why not release them on Steam?

Fucking Konami.

Long overdue for a second collection

Konami did say the Castlevania collection was the first but there hasn't been a mention of the second collection yet. It's Konami though who knows what's going on over there.

Fun fact I was actually buying pirated games because when I started playing games broadband internet wasn't common thing (or internet at all) so only way to get games was to buy from stores that were selling pirated games or know someone with good internet XD

I pirated the full version of Pinball Arcade recently, though I only allow myself to play the tables you can't buy any more that I don't own. They took the game down 2 days early before I bough the rest of the tables. Not the stuff that is still available. Though because of the account system, I still get achivements on steam from the dodgy version when I start the proper version. No ban pls steam.
The next patch can't come soon enough, want to get back into it.

I've stopped pirating when Steam became a thing as well. Before that, I had to visit every game store in town to find a game that I wanted to play, often returning home with empty hands because it was out of stock or not delivered yet.

So yeah, I agree with Gabe that piracy is mostly a service problem. The only games I've pirated in the past 15 years are roms from old games that can't be bought on my platforms of choice. I have considered pirating games involved in Epic's moneyhats as well, since the devs got paid anyway and I don't want to support this practice. But there are so many other great games on pc that I haven't bothered doing this so far. Humble Choice alone provides me with more great games than I have time to play them.

Im pirating Oddworld Soulstorm right now because it's an Epic exclusive. Doesn't mean I will play it anytime soon. Just wanna have it.

To anyone not liking me pirating Epic timed exclusives:

Yeah I remember pirating in high school when everyone would have a Lan and everyone would download off that persons hard drive, as soon as I started earning then it stopped and steam definitely helped with it, heck steam alone I have over 1300 games now.
Weirdly from a legal sense I still pirate my PS2/switch etc... games because it's easier to download an iso than rip the disc etc... it's strange because I have paid money for those games but from a law perspective it is wrong.

I "spite" pirated a few Epic exclusives. I probably won't play them at all since I have a huge backlog as it is already but if they come out on Steam and it's a game I want to play I'll 100% buy it.

But apart from that I haven't really pirated any games. Deals like Humble Choice/Game Pass have made it cheaper to have a library of games to play and Steam reviews/refunds and demos help me make an informed decision before I buy a game, 3rd party resellers help with getting a big release cheap on day 1. I've used them for Persona 5 Strikers, Nioh 2, Code Vein and probably will be using them this month for NieR Reincarnation.

Yeah, me too. I really like what they did with Javelin. They probably won't add any new ship in this update but the current selection is good enough that I am actually ok with it.

I haven't played that much since release, logged in to try out the new ships etc... but nothing too extreme. Been waiting for the reset.

Actually I also pirated that Paranoia game that disappeared from Epic without a trace, haven't played it but have it just in case.

I rarely ever pirate games that are on Steam because of the enormous amount of games Im eager to play that I already own. I only pirate a game to check if it's worthy of being on my wishlist and the game doesn't have a demo and Im skeptical to it. I have so much to play I can't bother pirating Steam games. It's been months since I pirated a Steam game to see if I want to put it on my wishlist. The demo festival helped out a lot.

Epic on the other hand I pirate either because I really wanna play it, but don't wanna use EGS (Control, Satisfactory, What The Golf etc., all I bought day 1 on Steam) or because Im somewhat interested it and pirate it due to a mixture of spite and "just because I wanna have it" like with Oddworld Soulstorm.

That also reminds off my relationship to game pass. I got it super cheap 2 years ago because I thought I was gonna use game pass a lot and I have ultimate until summer 22. However as the time went, every game I played and finished on game pass I bought on Steam sale, so I stopped using game pass. For a long period I only used game pass as a demo service on steroids, but not I haven't used it in a long time. Sorta regret having game pass even though I got it for cheap.
