Any recommendations for dark fantasy? Like Berserk, Castlevania or Dark Souls etc.

Man, Dynazenon is just soooo goood.
It's like all my favorite mecha and toku tropes put together with super good character drama and interactions, cute romance and fantastic animation and direction.
Every episode gives me a bigger grin than the last.
Easily one of my all-time favorites right now.

this season is great for the mecha show , Dynazenon is amazing Toku/Mecha show and love how they brought back Anti and Kaiju Girl and as for the second show ... Back Arrow as a super fun reminder of Gainaxy mecha show escalation with crazy plottwist each ep

Yeah, it's fantastic.
Both Dynazenon and Back Arrow are pretty much sitting comfortably in my all-time favorite list by now.
And we have those in the same season :sweaty-blob:

Back Arrow has pretty much turned into a modern Gurren Lagann successor and I fucking love it.

Dynazenon continues to be amazeballs.

Back Arrow was a bit on the weaker side this week, more of an infodump/calm before the final storm thing.

Spider Isekai is compelling even if the titular Spider MC doesn't show up in an episode at all.

Also started catching up with Thunderbolt Fantasy Season 3 and it continues to be super good.

Also, this is from the 2nd movie and not season 3, but this is peak cinema.

Almost 11 episodes into Boku No Hero Academia S5.

Yeah, this tournament arc might be good on manga, but it turned out to be a boring season so far. Only exciting thing were story development in Ep 1,2 and 10 with One-For-All's knowledge being revealed.

Class B looks like such an interesting bunch, I wish at least a few characters get some more screen time later on.

spider isekai is such a strange beast :-D Personally love the two timelines and the way the show uses it for worldbuilding if you pay enough attention , but ultimately it kinda feels the show is just starting ... and we wont get to the point of connecting the timelines completely up until at least half of season 2 if that happens

Regarding Dynazenon and Back Arrow, I am waiting for these two shows to end before jumping in. I didn't like the story of Gridman so expectation was low for Dynazenon. I am going to watch it for the fighting scenes.

Speaking of mecha anime, I just started watching Granbelm. The opening song is so good.

Dynazenon feels very much like Gridman. It's obviously different, but still shares a lot of similarities in its core themes. Not sure if one would like it if they didn't enjoy Gridman :/

Granbelm is really good, enjoy!

Ouch, I guess so. But the fighting scenes of Gridman are pretty good so I should enjoy those in Dynazenon as well.

Just finished Granbelm episode 2. I am liking it. Hopefully it won't disappoint. :longswordblob:

Watched a number of episodes of various series after yesterday's sad news to take my mind off things.

Super Cub - I liked the usage of colour in this series. The first few episodes used muted, grey colours and gradually uses more vibrant colour to reflect the change in mood and Koguma's disposition. It's still very much an introspection piece, closer to Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou rather than Yuru Camp, but a more uplifting take on the former.

Thunderbolt Fantasy S3 - They've gone all sci-fi. It's not a bad thing, though. Not as many battles as I would've liked considering we're already more than halfway through the season, but still a great watch regardless.

Majo no Tabitabi - I didn't have the chance to watch this during its seasonal run, but now I do. To be honest, I was expecting a Kino no Tabi with a slightly optimistic tone. I didn't expect it to be slightly darker than Kino. I'm only 4 episodes in though, so hopefully they'll balance it a bit in later episodes.

Dynazenon - I laughed my arse off at the 3-way gattai in episode 9. So ridiculous and awesome. Are we back in mid-80s mecha anime golden age again?

I'm watching Hathaway's Flash and I am absolutely stunned at how it portrays the scale and devestation of a mobile suits fight. It's absolutely gut-wrenching and amazing. Absolutely love the portrayal of the world overall as well.

And Back Arrow just ended too with a 10/10 ending.

This was 100% a spiritual successor to Gurrenn Lagann and definitely nailed the sheer amount of fun and constant escalation. So good.

This was an absolutely blessed season for toku/super robot fans.

In 2011, the first season of Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere aired. It is still my favorite show of all time and I often re-watch some episodes when I am bored. Never get tired of it. It still has some of the best directed fight scenes I have ever watched.

And the special OVA included in the Blu-ray box has absolutely crazy animation. Spoiler because it reveals one of the major twists of the main story.

You may ask "hey, Cacher, why suddenly bring it up?". Actually, ten years ago I couldn't read Japanese, so I know nothing about Horizon after season 2. But just now, I was holding volumn 1 part 1 of the original Japanese novel and I can understand >95% of the text.

Man, I really have come a long way. I am finally be able to tackle this monster. BTW, the total weight of the novel is 13kg. :ROFLMAO:

It's the end of the season once again. Where does the time go?

I haven't seen Dynazenon finale yet, but it has been a good showing so far. Also, the collective fanarts of Mujina is choice. :flare_bath:

I watched Record of Ragnarok and I liked it. But there sure was a lot of nothing. With tournament style arcs that's an issue but when the premise of the whole show is a tournament well.... . You are going to run it I issues.

When is season 2? Or is there a manga?

I also watch To your Eternity. I liked it. I watched it dubbed since HBO Max only had the dubbed version but it wasn't bad. I look forward to watching more of it. I've seen 3 episodes, when do more episode air? Which day of the week?

And I'm still watching Star Wars the Bad Batch and it has its moments.

I've not really watched anime in a long time. I'm much more of a manga reader than I am an anime watcher. There I said it.

Ok i gotta read this
Downfall is a good read. Rather grimdark like his other works, but certainly lighter than Punpun, for example.

In Downfall, if you see the studio of the mangaka in some of the panels, that's actually Asano's own studio, photographed and traced. Rather apt for a semi-autobiography.

He does work with photos a lot, I recall that there was an Urasawa Naoki no Manben episode on him.

Thunderbolt Fantasy Season 3 is over.
Very good again, though this was notably more dense and set-up heavy then the previous seasons, which were more or less conclusive.
This one straight sets up at least a season 4.

Also finished watching the 2nd halg of 86.
Man that was fantastic. Yes it had some lows here and there but overall this was straight up great. If I hadn't read it was a LN adaption I would have never believed it, the direction is aces and legit makes it feel like this was made as an anime.
Tragic, bittersweet, beautiful, unpredictable, dark, creepy. It's a lot of things, and does it really well. The action is really good too, though definitely not the focus.

Can't wait until the 2nd half in October, the ending was :sweaty-blob::sweaty-blob::sweaty-blob::sweaty-blob:

Netflix added four new Gundam movies
Three movies that are from 1981 and 1982. The fourth one is from 1988 and is titled Char's Counter Attack.
I cannot find any information on the previous movies on wiki. Are they from the TV-series in movie format?

Thank you for reminding me I need to watch Yasuke! But ezodagrom is right, this has nothing to do with the quality of their shows and everything with the working conditions. Here's a good primer on the subject.

Yeah but Mappa is actively making things worse. Not telling you not to watch the shows though!

it will chase them down sooner or later if its as bad as Canipa is saying . Tbh susprised anime industry didnt gave full on crash yet with the way they treat animators .

Thb i find it super strange how the entrtainment industry (especially games and anime) are going so hard about welbeaing of the creators , compared to like music and movie industry. Or anyother industry in existence

Ultimately I kinda reached a point of complete "notgivefuckery" in regards to entertainment. My "care" cells are fully employed by theshit that happens in my close proximity in life of me, my family and my "offline" friends. There is just little to no place for the chinese kids that sew the cloths i buy ,if creators of entertainment i consume or maker of shoes i wear isnt by any chance seuxal predator ,a nazi or just simple idiot (most of the probably are something i would despise) ... I would probably went insane if i had to care and research all that .

yes its sad and bad foor the ones involved, but i cant do shit about it. I need shoes i get ones that fit the best. i need entertainment i will judge based on the products qualities

Anyway this season is almost done , any recommendations for hidden gems this season ro stuff for the next seasonnext season?

You and me both, regarding your rant. My personal guess is that it comes down to money and a certain personality type that stands in positions of power. It's the same everywhere, people producing the value appear to be some of the least well-paid and treated ones. I am guessing that it comes to a sensibility that you need to create that also makes you adverse to conflict and standing up for your yourself in an economy built on the opposite of that.

As for this season, I'd recommend the Hathaway gundam movie. It's pretty amazing.

Well I've watched Dynazenon, Back Arrow, Thunderbolt Fantasy and 86 this season so far. All of them highly recommended (I know you watched some of these already).

Yesterday I started watching Odd Taxi, which seems to have been very well received. And after the first episode I'm definitely on board for more.
It kinda feels like Durarararararararara with a big ensamble cast that have various relations with each other through which a main story unfolds. Definitely feels like there's something dark afoot, but it also has comedy.

Other things I'm still planning to watch are Vivy, To Your Eternity and Shadows House. Can't speak about how these turned out from personal experience yet though.

You are correct. These three movies are the condensed version of the TV series. It cuts some of the minor plot elements though, which is why Gundam diehards were reluctant to recommend it.

Consider checking out the Gundam The Origin manga as well, which is a retelling of the original TV series.

HURRY UP AND RELEASE THE MACROSS SERIES!
As much as I love Macross and "it's been 84 years.jpg", I despise Harmony Gold, and paying them royalties for streaming rights/blu ray releases for essentially being a copyright troll is not something I would like to support willingly.

any recommendations for hidden gems this season
I enjoyed Super Cub a lot. Its final episode was great, super heartwarming. A rather atypical CGDCT (although there's definitely a fair bit of that). Also, Zombieland Saga Revenge was great. definitely check it out if you enjoyed the first season.

Man that was fantastic. Yes it had some lows here and there but overall this was straight up great.
I was initially lukewarm on 86 since I had a feeling that their depiction of racism will come off as heavy-handed, but after watching the full season, I'm glad that my feeling was unfounded. Lena's acceptance and awareness as part of the systematic racism in her country and her willingness to act against it were done rather well, I must say. Definitely looking forward to the second cour.

The last Wonder Egg Priority we had to wait 3 months for was so fucking horrible, like HOLY SHIT WAS THIS BAD

Legit one of the worst anime endings i've ever had to experience.

Not only were 26 Minutes of this 46 Episode Recap - Despite there already being a recap episode earlier in this 13 episode show - the 20 minutes of original content were so fucking bad.

They bascially fuck the entire theme of the show, oh this character? She didn't actually kill herself, she tripped, wtfffff?
What was that about defeating Frill, a villain set up in the last few episodes to be the personification of suicide? LITERALLY FORGOTTEN AND UNMENTIONED.
The Warrios of Eros that were teased? Nope, they just split up amicably.
Frills minions that had tortured them? EH... nothing. The Trauma the girls suffered in the last episode before this one? Nothing either, actually.
But one of the girls that committed suicide was actually... A ROBOT. Is that relevant to anything...? No...? well then.

The reaction to this episode is so universally negative online, the internet has never known such harmony.
