Happy freedom day, fellow Britons and British residents!

England.

Not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The rules are a little different in the devolved nations.

Whoopsie, sincere apologies.
I really thought it was applied to the whole kingdom, with a few local rules (like, say, mandatory masks on the tube).

Then fingers crossed you'll be a good example for England to follow. šŸ˜

Wales has its planned "Freedom Day" for sometime in August. I expect shit will have hit the fan hard enough in England by that point that Drakeford may point across the border as to why it's such a bad idea.

But yes, essentially the devolved administrations all have their own health policies and no one is going as fast as England in unlocking. It's got bad enough that I believe certain EU countries are basically changing their quarantine rules depending on what part of the UK you arrived from.

Yeah, I'm in Brighton, which is kind of surprisingly not completely screwed up, for a seaside resort that gathers millions of stag and hen parties every day.
But still we're starting to see whole shops and restaurants close because their entire staff is quarantining or self-isolating.
All our friends with children are home because of outbreaks in schools (for some reason the nursery where my daughter goes has been spared so far!).

Also fuck me, we've got a flight back to Italy booked (before the current wave, btw) for September, which we kind of desperately need.
We haven't seen our families for 1 year now, and are really looking forward to some babysitting, but of course Bojo is screwing it all up again.
(Also looking forward to prove my settled status when flying back to Gatwick, but that's another story šŸ˜…)

I missed my vaccine shot call earlier this week. They messaged me past midnight and the schedule was at 8AM.

I woke up at past 8AM and was like "wuuuuuuuuuuuuut!!!!"

They said that it may take a while until they vaccinate my area again.

While some people aren't happy, but I think it is fully the right decision that we have to show vaccination status to be able to get into public places, like restaurants and cinemas now here in France.
Restaurants not yet.

Only cinemas, museums, theatres, zoos, etc.

Never gonna reach herd immunity. :face-with-medical-mask: Or maybe in a few years through "natural" vaccination. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:
Gibraltar is 100% (yes, 100%) vaccinated and is recently seeing their cases rise. Zero COVID is never going to be a reality, at least not through vaccination.

Over time COVID will become a "normal" illness just like the influenza.
Does that mean that no more people will die because of COVID? Sadly not.
But hopefully we will achieve a high enough level of immunization worldwide so that there are only very few deadly cases that do not overburden the health care systems.
Let's just hope that the immunization also reduces the cases of long COVID. Does anybody know if there are studies on this topic?

Thatā€™s whatā€™s worrying me quite a bit, that I didnā€™t have any kind of reaction from my second shot.
Maybe I have had COVID and thatā€™s why my body knows whatā€™s up? Or is it maybe the inverse?
I had next to no reaction from the first one, arm a little sore. I had about a few hours's worth of fever during the first night after the second. That's it. I got Pfizer.

I'm going to the company office some days this week and I'm positively surprised of people wearing masks properly in thw public transportation, I was expecting people just not giving a fuck but I was wrong.

Some people doesn't show any adverse reaction to vaccines, so you seem to be onte of the lucky ones! :D

Headache's gone today. Just some minor arm pain left. Nice.
I pretty much spent most of yesterday afternoon in bed listening to podcasts. Can't remember the last time when I was just out of commision like that. Wow.
Still worth it though.

Yes, of course.
I'm waiting for PC2 since the 1990s and this is practically PC2.

Hello everybody.

I got two Astra Shots, meanwhile.
That's what they had, so that's what I took.
so good to see you back ... we missed you!

I am genuinly shocked time and again by how many good and intelligent people are anti vax.
Found out that another coworker is.

That one guy in the office who believes that COVID is an artifically engineered bioweapon by Merkel's Empire to build NuCommunism is a lost cause anyways, but two other anti-vaxxers in this office are genuinly surprising, cuz they are intelligent, trustworthy, rational and fun people, who don't usually fall for boulevard headlines and clickbait bullshit.

I only know about the vaccine opinions of less than 10 coworkers from this office, so that's 3/10 being anti vax.

I don't use Facebook much these days, but the short amount of time I recently did (to look up someone šŸ•µļøā€ā™‚ļø ), I was offered links to anti-vax fake news. Social media are amazingly good at spreading this kind of content (outrage, fake news, and when we are lucky, both in the same post).

Man... The 2nd shot is kicking my ass... :face-with-thermometer:
They tell you the effects are much more noticeable than the 1st one but I wasn't expecting this.
Still, happy to have done it and ready to get back to normal.

Just got my second shot if it goes like the first one I'll just have some minor headache if anything.
Depends on what you got.
Astra: Second shot should be barely noticeable.
RNA vaccine like Biontech or Moderna: It has the potential to be actually worse.

At least that's what the doc told me before my own second shoot.

I got Coronavac/Sinovac. My mother got the same vaccine and had some reactions in both shots.

Yeah, Sinovac side effects are largely lesser than Astra or RNA vaccines from what I've read.

Got my 2nd Sinovac shot on the 10th. No side effect happy to say. A friend got infected with the delta variant a month ago, he is fully vaccinated months ago with Sinovac though. Tells me he just feels a very slight fever and is already back home a week ago, feeling fine.
