In the near future will Valve be sued because SteamOS is the default operating system on Steam Deck or any other stupid reason?
It will be sued for developing SteamDeck because they took 30% from developers and publishers to fund it. That is not fair, other companies can't do that so valve has advantage from the start when developing hardware like this. XD

Looks fast and snappy. Its impressive but at same time Deck has a good cpu and a lot of ram so its to be expected lol. Looks like they did really good work overall.

Need to stop watching Deck videos. Its such a long wait its gonna be depressing waiting for this thing. I never buy launch window gaming hardware (like ever) but now I know how console gamers feel when they have to wait so long between unveil and actually playing with a device. feelsbadman.

I finished Factorio, only took me 57 hours, holy shit. Also used some save games to cheat myself to some cheevos because fuck it why not. :p

Still interested in playing it more, but not sure. Also interested in continuing Dyson and Satisfactory, but I will wait till they are done. Need cheevos for them.

I would like to see the SteamDock that Valve have in mind. I'm expecting it to be expensive but USB-C docks usually are especially if it's Thunderbolt compatible which i hope it is so we avoid USB channel saturation. I have that with the tablet i use for work, without thunderbolt the USB bus is always complaining of low bandwidth due to driving the second monitor at big res.

In my continued effort to actually finish games, I recently began categorizing them by their length based on HLTB averages (and where I tend to land compared to those).

So far, I'm finding that planning ahead and knowing roughly how much time I'll be committing has been conducive to staying focused and finishing games. At the moment, I'm not really up for long games, for example, so having a list of short games on hand has allowed me to avoid some of the choice paralysis that plagues me.

So yeah! I recommend it. I also enjoy categorizing things so that's an extra bonus. I've divided them like so: 0-5 hrs, 5-15 hrs, 15-30 hrs, and 30+ hrs. Perhaps I should add another for 60+ hr RPGs but I don't think I have many of those anyway.

Dear SteamOS team, talk to the BPM team and update the thing together, please. So much smoother in that video. for controller use. BPM is crying for such an update.
Also, I just want to say those IGN interviews looks really awkward - two tired looking Valve employees facing the camera, which is a different direction than the IGN interviewer who kinda stares off to the left vaguely at the Valve people.
I'm sure the BPM and SteamOS team are the same people.

On the one hand, I agree that they look awkward. On the other hand, I like that they have the people actually doing stuff talking about it.

The one thing I am surprised about the deck are the back paddles. Didn't the Steam Controller get sued successfully by a patent troll for doing exactly that? Given that precedent, it feels like Valve is setting themselves up for another lawsuit.

I mean, I'm pretty certain they took that into account. Maybe they got the rights to do it as part of a settlement, or they bought a license, or they are confident that the new design is sufficiently different.

I'm extremely happy they didn't drop it, the back buttons are one of my favourite things about the Steam controller (and I think I asked for 4 of them for its successor before on this very forum :p)

Ironburgs patent covers two big buttons. It doesn't cover 4 small buttons.
This design as workaround for the patent was covered in trial (and was at somepoint planned for Steam Controller too).

Tom Clancy's doesn't sell like he used to. Couldn't be the games though, that's be crazy talk
If you put name associated with one thing on every product you release it loses any meaning. How many young audience they are aiming to capture with xDefiant even knows who Tom Clancy is?

Since Valve only has like 350ish core people I doubt there's more than a dozen or so core people who primarily work on Steam itself. I'm sure others help as needed but it's always felt so weird to me that Valve just doesn't expand some more since it's clear they dont always have the development resources needed due to their small size.

I can't find the video now as I don't think I saw it on YT, but somewhere else, but during the launch of the Index, Gabe said that he wanted the people actually developing the Index (and other Valve products) to showcase and talk about them, because they know the products best, not some marketing people.

They way they talk about the UI makes it sound like they are now working on just one UI that morphs to the target platform. One might call it responsive, though not truly since it would probably only have 3 main modes and variations on those based on your screen size. Certainly beneficial to not have to completely separate UI styles and code paths with different features here and there.
I mean it looks like it too, definitely elements of the new library in there.

I'm guessing that the way it will work on the desktop end is that you'll get a checkbox for "if a controllers is detected, use controller UI", similar to how you can currently do with BPM overlay. With the addition maybe being that the whole library interface could change to controller UI, not just the overlay as it is now.
Looking at the video though, there are still some stuff there that doesn't look like it's fully controller enabled so to speak. Like early on when he's scrolling through the sections of the Hades library page, it just shows those right side elements from the current desktop library as is, which are definitely mouse driven. Very doable on touchpad or touch screen but maybe not ideal for controller. :)

Countdown to old BPM getting deprecated starts now. :peekphotoblob:
Thought now that I think about it, have they said about anything about SteamOS 3 on desktop? As far as I recall older SteamOS' would boot straight into BPM on desktop, or at least that was an option. I wonder what the plan is there.

Too many question! ⁉

I just realized if I was really into game pass I would probably have been really fucked with the Steam Deck as will at least try to not wipe SteamOS from it. The Suspend/Resume feature that comes with SteamOS sounds really great.

No denuvo for Humankinds , case they wernt able to find a way without it affecting performance in time
We’ve been one of the most wishlisted games on Steam this year, so we know we’re going to be targeted by pirates, more so than any of our previous games. If Denuvo can hold off a cracked version, even just for a few days, that can already really help us to protect our launch.

That being said, our priority is always the best possible experience for the players who buy our games and support us. Denuvo should never impact player performance, and we don’t want to sacrifice quality for you guys.

We believe that it’s possible with the right integration, which is what we wanted to test during the Closed Beta. However, we found that the way it was currently integrated was not good enough, and it’s not something we can fix before release. So, we are taking it out.
