September Quiz - Clues #2

I'm going on holiday tomorrow, so here are the second and last clues already today.... because I don't have a time machine, unlike many of the protagonists in the games asked this time. :)
So let's go: 60 people are already participating, and one week from today this round will be over.

Hints #2:
1) You control games 3, 6, 11, 12, 14, 17, 19, 20 and 21 from a first-person perspective.
2) Title 15 is a Metroidvania.
3) There is also a VR version of game number 3.
4) The nine titles with a first person view are joined by five from a 3rd person perspective and eleven with 2D gameplay.

Deadline is Thursday the 30th of September, participation via Video Game Quiz - September - Time Travel.

Fun category. Had no idea on the last three. Timesplitters I played and loved back in the day and I recognized that specific image but couldn't place the game. I thought it was a lot more recent since I thought I had seen that image in the last five years somewhere or something.

October Quiz - Atari

This time we honour a former giant. Quite a few classics can be attributed to Atari Inc, which rose to become the biggest manufacturer of video games in the early 80s. We all know how the story ended, but similar to the SEGA group (see related puzzle a few months ago ;)) a whole lot of hardware has come together over the years, with quite a few titles... I won't be able to please all fans and I might have left out some classics, but I still want to put you to the test:
No matter if console, home computer or handheld, exclusive or multiplatform - do you recognise these games? :)

Deadline is Sunday the 31st of October, participation via Video Game Quiz - October - Atari.

Here comes the quiz, have fun:

This one's probably going to be a tough one.
Cool. I recognize nothing.
Ah geez this is going to be tough.
I can spot a pattern here. ;) Yes it's a more difficult month (and fewer people are joining...), the shift from more current games towards a 1980s focus is probably a big reason for that!
But don't despair, brush up on your arcade classics and await clues. :)

October Quiz - Clues #1

Notice something? This round we're capitalising RETRO, one fellow player called it a "real boomer quiz"! You can see the focus just by looking at the release dates.... ten of the games were released before 1989, twelve in the 90s, and only three in this millennium. So it's a long way into the past, but don't lose heart! Just look up some Atari Arcade classics ;)

So far, only 25 people are participating, the scores are low and a top 10 place is already up for grabs with 13 correct titles. With this post, I'll bring the thread back up and give you some hints....

Hints #1:
1) In game #4, you control a tank.
2) There are also arcade versions of the following game series: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15 and 17.
3) Title #3 is a licensed game, there are movies and comics with the same name.
4) Game #7 was a launch title of the Atari 2600.

October Quiz - Clues #2

So my dear friends of video games, honour your classics and join in this round! There are less than ten days left before October is already over.

There are only about 40 players so far, and none from this community. Sure this round is frustrating, but remember - every single point helps your forum in the yearly ranking. :) So even if you only recognise one game, don't hesitate to submit your entry.

Hints #2:
1) #6 and #15 are multiplatform remakes of Atari classics for the new Atari VCS.
2) Do you like cat-themed mini games? Maybe game 13 is something for you.
3) Number 8 is a game with only three letters, which was ported to all kinds of systems between 1981 and 2010.
4) Title 11 is one of the most successful Atari 2600 games and sold millions of copies.

These are all way before my time, but I did go through a retro computing phase a few years ago so I think I'm going to try to enter, even though I probably only definitely know like 3.

Pretty sure I'll end with 18 or so points. Definitely did better than expected but also spent more time than normal looking around for games. A couple I think I could eventually find if I just kept looking but I spent enough time I finally just made myself stop.

October Quiz - Answers & Score

Just like the great glory of Atari, this round is now over. Once again I am happy about the almost 100 players, even though the games really were not easy. :) Are you ready for the results?

Ah wait, to the bonus question: 58% of you have never owned Atari hardware, 41% of you have... and it paid off, the latter scored 5 points more on average (11 vs 16). :D

The scores are at the end, now first the names of the games as text, then the pictures, then the high score table.

November Quiz - Metroidvania

So, here is the last quiz of the year! A few months ago I had you vote on which themes you would like, and Metroidvania had made second place. So why not have a round about this popular genre with somewhat "fuzzy edges", because where does a souls-like start, and which title is more of an action adventure?
I hope you enjoy this one, even if some genre classics are not included because they were already in another quiz.

Next year there will also be another Make-a-Wish quiz, so please enter your wishes in the bonus question! :)

Deadline is Tuesday 30 November, enter via Video Game Quiz - November - Metroidvania.

Here comes the last quiz of 2021, have fun:

November Quiz - Clues #1

Well, found the double jump yet? Unlocked the grappling hook, discovered the Ice Beam behind the waterfall or finally got the Air Dash in your repertoire? The first twenty players have already jumped into the Metroidvania round, and I'd like to motivate the rest of you with this first batch of hints as well. :)

Hints #1:

1) Pictures 1 to 12 show the/one protagonist of the game.
2) Title 5 is a recent game with a distinctive "black hole head" main character. Released this August for PC, console ports to follow.
3) Number 3 is this year's sequel to a successful Metroidvania indie game.
4) Game 6 is also a sequel, kickstarter-funded and available on all major systems since 2020.

Deadline is Tuesday the 30th of November, enter via Video Game Quiz - November - Metroidvania

Here's the quiz again, good luck: link

November Quiz - Clues #2

We are nearing the end of this quiz year, time for some Metroidvania backtracking! Have you really examined all the clues and scoured all the corners of the map to find the remaining games? :)

So far you can still reach the top 10 with less than 20 points!

The Metroidvania genre is still relatively new and this also applies to the games in this round: Only two of them were released before 2000 (!), three from the 00s, five from the current 20s... and a whole fifteen from the last decade. A complete departure to the Atari quiz of the previous month.

Are you ready for the final batch of clues?

Clues #2:
1) Game 16 is a Japanese indie classic, old enough to order a beer in the UK or Germany. ;) Only three games in this round are older.
2) Number 19 is an 80s sci-fi Metroidvania that has appeared on several computers, but no consoles.
3) If you want to try a different jumping mechanic, you should play title 17. :) Runs on all modern systems!
4) In game 9 you explore several planets, the name starts with "X".

November Quiz- Clues #3

Say, is everyone on holiday already? The last weekend of November is upon us and just fifty people have sent in their entries! Two of them from this forum. Now then, because it's almost Christmas.... I bring you presents in the form of a third serving of hints. ;)

And in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, you now have to give me something too, so please join the game. :p

Valdien Wibblewozzer Mutant Strawberry FunnyJay QFNS

Are you ready for the (really!) last batch of clues?

Clues #3:
1) The first letters of the first three rows, strung together, make the words McAbgast Xatioby.... no, unfortunately I haven't found a nice anagram!
2) Number 7 is originally a game for the Xbox 360, a later update also appeared on other systems.
3) There are also films and/or series for games 2, 8 and 10.
4) Title 12 uses several songs by a well-known black metal band in its soundtrack.

Deadline is next Tuesday the 30th November, enter via Video Game Quiz - November - Metroidvania

February Quiz - Cooking Kitchen

Hey, it's 2022 and so it's time for the new (ninth!) season of quizzes. :) Once again, from February to November, you'll each get a quiz from me in which you have to guess the correct games from 25 picture fragments. Your points will be collected for you and evaluated in a high score list at the end of each round (at the end of the year also for your forum!).

This round is about "cooking"... so from real cooking games to food-based minigames to kitchens in computer games. How many do you recognise? :)

Of course, I will have left out one or two "perfect genre representatives", but that's difficult to avoid and makes the quiz a little less predictable.

Deadline is Monday 28 February, enter via Video Game Quiz - February - cooking & kitchens

Here comes the quiz, bon appetit:

February Quiz - Clues #1

Listen up, here's some lunch.... and clues! The first quiz of the year is running and over thirty players are already participating. This round we have more complaints about omitted genre representatives than usual, so before we get to the clues, let me name three cooking games mentioned by fellow players that are definitely not in this month: Pressure Cooker, Ore no Ryouri, Po'ed.

So, now clues #1:
1) The 1 and 7 are point & click adventures of the late 80s that are considered genre classics. The 11 is also one, but less old & classic.
2) In game 5 you don't just design pizza, organised crime is also an integral part of the gameplay.
3) Games 8, 14 and 20 are games based on movies or TV series.
4) Game 9 is a twelve-letter Japan-only platformer that has appeared almost exclusively on Sony consoles (stationary+handheld).

Deadline is Monday 28 February, enter via Video Game Quiz - February - cooking & kitchens

Here's the quiz again, bon appétit: link

February Quiz - Clues #2

Forty cooks are already hanging around these video game kitchens (but no one from here), let's see what comes out of the oven in the end! Granted, I hope quite a few more people join in the remaining ten days. :) More than half of the month is over, and soon we'll be serving - are you with us?

Here are the clues #2:

1) Number 10 is a VR game where you act out different professions.
2) Title 13 is thematically the furthest from "cooking" - a racing game!
3) The sixth picture shows a survival game, already the name indicates that cooking is important.
4) Game 15 is a well-known free to play MMORPG.

Deadline is Monday 28th February, participation via Video Game Quiz - February - cooking & kitchens.

Here's the quiz again, enjoy: link
