Lots of cool stuff here too, this appeared on SteamDB an hour ago at max (thanks lashman for heads-up)

Benchmarks for that machine are already out there on the internet. Steam Deck and this machine should be close enough according to Valve, but Doom Eternal in LTT video about Steam Deck ran at 800p with dynamic resolution off and medium settings at 60 fps while this device runs 720p with low settings and dropping constantly to 50% resolution scale to reach that target of 60 fps.

Yeah I watched that review too and the GPU was constantly clocked at around 800-900 mhz as the reviewer points out (I am guessing due to thermal/power throttling?) so Steam Deck's GPU should perform better than that. In any case I hope we get more detailed previews soon because I'm dying to know more about how it performs. Volvo plz

edit: Valve actually updated the article with this according to the Steam Deck subreddit:

edit - Previously this article stated that performance would be comparable - this has been updated after discussing more with the team. This is the one of the closest PCs we could find that is still generally available for purchase, but is still a bit underpowered compared to Steam Deck."

as the note documentation says, if it runs here, it should run perfectly fine on S.Deck as CPU is stronger on Deck but GPU is a bit weaker, which makes sense.

Also, keep in mind that Deck CPU is something completely new and there's nothing on the market that matches perfectly it, so, it's tricky to know.

All sessions have been uploaded to Youtube so you can check all individual ones. There's a lot of interesting stuff in here.

In positive news Lawrence and Scott confirmed in the Q&A that they are working hard to make the device available in more regions, however they specifically mentioned Japan and Australia as priority ones due to logistics (most likely shared process and that's why they are priorities)

The end of the Proton Support video caught my attention because the host says that aside from Proton they will have a lot more to say about native Linux support for games. I thought that Proton was the golden solution for Linux games where the devs don't need to port their games to that platform, but it sounds like Valve is not giving up on native Linux versions of games. Maybe they have another card in their sleeve or something?

I just want to point out that 1.,1Ghz on Vega will give roughly 80-90% of the performance that 1.7ghz Vega will give (using LPDDR4x).

Still 800mhz Vega will get absolutely crushed by RDNA2. Like 800mhz Vega vs 1.6ghz RDNA2 should be double perf ez

Ok, Kingdom Come seems it will run great, I have no doubt about rock stable 30fps on some medium/high mix.
I love that game so much, that will be one of the first things I will install on my Deck.

I was really hoping we'd get more in-depth previews in November :(
After delay, planning most likely changed as we should have really get some more previews by now, if you noticed, their OnDeck account also slowed down a bit, it must be a chaos right now for them to reestructure the initial timing.

Excellent news, everyone, 3 more BattleEye games are compatible with Proton.

List:
  • Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
  • ARK: Survival Evolved
  • Arma 3
  • DayZ
  • Unturned
  • Planetside 2
Excellent, funnily enough no EAC games have been announced so far AFAIK

its still the case that devs have to manually switch on Linux support in EAC/BattlEye, correct? I

For me personally, Im wondering when Valve will fix the video codec incompatibilities in Proton, rather. Those affect me more. Fatal Frame still doesnt run, for example.
