The race mission in Mafia Definitive Edition is garbage, yep
I think what you needed to do was to not go too fast because the rubberbanding AI would catch you at any speed anyway. Totally bonkers.

Crap... I'm trying to finish Far Cry 6 (whoever thought it was a good idea to tie all progression to gear deserves a slap in the face), have God of War unlocking in two hours and had completely forgotten this was also releasing today.

I guess my new year resolution to try to reduce my backlog instead of buying new games is not off to a good start :p

After just an hour of God of War, I can tell this is the extra-polished shit I've been looking for. It's still baffling that Sony is doing better PC ports that Microsoft, on average.
To be fair, Horizon Zero Dawn was shiet-tier quality at launch and Days Gone had it's fair share of issues too. GoW is the first truly polished port.

But they did fix it. I don't have confidence Microsoft will fix Halo Infinite's awful jutter issues on PC, nor do I see them ever having anything equivalent to DLSS until they figure out their DirectML stuff for console, which I imagine will be generalized and won't be either as effective or performant as DLSS.
I'm also willing to cut Sony some slack in that they are console ports. Xbox games are alledgedly built for PC from the ground up now, but don't really feel like it. They even took PC options away from Forza Horizon 5, the dynamic scaling settings, while in that same entry that tech got put into the console versions. The PC versions just feel second-class with Microsoft's games, but not Sony's, and that's a big reason I dogpile on them so much.

God of War was a very good game but I still think it was crazy to give it the GOTY over RDR2 in those 2018 Keighleys. And I didn't even play RDR2 until it came to steam but looking back now...yikes. Gaming media was smoking some shit.

Can someone confirm me that game is not saving screenshots from photo mode or it is something on my end?

God of War ? Mildly interested, but my plate is full. Between Muramasa (super long VN), Ys Seven (surely one of the bloated Ys), and the time black hole that is Pathfinder Kingmaker...
I'm in the middle of exploring an island full of super angry will o' wisps, trudging toward a ruined tower dedicated to
Yog Sothoth.
So good :neutral-face:

Nah, GoW got all these accolades and my contrarian self played the game and I came away in agreement that it is indeed an excellent game. The Valkyries alone make it worth.

RDR2 is good, but it has a lot of flaws that annoy me. One such thing is that it too often is simulating realism to the point that it negatively impacts gameplay, like getting on or off your horse. When faced with a Pinkerton or whatever ambush, I always died, which threw me out of the suspension of disbelief that my character really is a badass rather than a normal dude who would just die pathetically when 10 ppl point a gun at him. And if Dutch says "I Have A Plan!" one more time, I swear he's running for president rather than representing the last bastion of the Wild West.

Agreed, much like TLOU, I found GOW to be enjoyable but nothing special really. I was shocked to see the acclaim it was then getting

I‘m feeling like being social right now. It should pass, as I’m a failure, but a related question. What the ever flying fuck is this round thing around the webcam, how is it called and what does it do ?

Related to the light of the video recorded ?

Tried God of War. I don't have an RTX for DLSS but AMD's Super Resolution seems ace @ Ultra @ 1440p. I can't tell the difference with native and it edges the game to 60fps on my aging rig with Ulta textures and High everything (I think I'll Ultra everything and lock to 30fps but still use SR as it really looks the same). Maybe it's a bit softer at the distance but without really losing detail, if anything maybe giving it a slightly less aliased look (probably even more unnoticable if you use film grain and such, which I don't) but maybe not even that. I took a bunch of screens to compare and couldn't tell them apart so need to redo 🤦‍♂️

Edit: got the screens proper this time, can anyone really tell which is which in these stills, never mind while simply playing the game? Note I have film grain off but motion blur is at the default 10 and the camera isn't 100% immobile even when you're standing still hence some potential differences in look.

1440p Native with Ultra textures and High everything else:

1440p Ultra AMD SR with Ultra textures and High everything else:

1440p Native with Ultra (and +) settings:

1440p Ultra AMD SR with Ultra (and +) settings:

Bonus shots showing some bad lod regardless of settings, the lighting on that door goes flat just a few feet away then pops closer (or is it the polygonal/normal mapped/tessellated/whatever relief design that goes flat so the lighting naturally follows, I dunno). Is that a bug or a feature? 🤷‍♂️

My cat will freak out if he sees a Blue Yeti and a round lamp on the desk :cold-sweat:
Sounds like viral gold

He couldn't do this without using environmentally damaging, pyramid scheme-based technologies? What was stopping him from doing that before? Use some of his minor fame and help indie devs that way, leave the NFTs in the shitheap theyre being pushed out of.

DLDSR first impression: interesting. The (temporal) anti aliasing quality for 2.25x DLDSR is not as good as 4xDSR (which they compare it to) in some cases, but it does resolve most details equally well or even better (despite fewer rendered pixels).

In general, from a technology perspective I think it's interesting to see ANNs applied to downsampling -- there are about a bazillion upsampling implementations, but I haven't previously seen it applied to downsampling (and particularly downsampling of realtime rendered images).

Doesn't Nvidia have this custom resolutions for downsampling thing that you set to higher than your native resolution to then get the option of higher than your native resolution in game settings as they think your native is that? What if you then used DLSS to get to that higher than your native resolution, so that it then downsamples the up-rendered or whatever it's called via DLSS image, would this be essentially the same thing but with less steps or what does it do different?

Additionally, can you also somehow use similar trickery not to downsample but to upsample DLSS style with this tech for games that don't have DLSS built in?
