According to intel docs the 11600k consumes about 125W (on max load) so an 8pin should be more than enough (at least in theory).

Couple maybe obvious questions:
Is the 8 pin connector properly in on both ends?
Are you using the cables that came with the psu or cablemod or any other aftermarket cables? I ask because it's surprising that you don't have the 4pin connector as well. I think my rmx came with several ATX12V connectors that were all 4+4.

Edit: Also, looking at the mobo manual, there are several leds in the mobo that might help you narrow down your problem. 4 leds next to the big power connector and 1 led below the 8pin power.

I've checked and replugged several times-
All cables came with the PSU.

Last night, I was playing Going Medieval when my PC spontaneously rebooted. Nothing in the event viewer other than a message about unexpected shutdown. I'm guessing it had something to do with power consumption/heat, since my GPU was running slightly hotter than normal (still below 80), or a power spike? Is there any way to diagnose why this happened? I played a bit after the reboot and it was fine.

Theres a few Z590 models but this is from the P manual.

Should beep during POST, if thats not happening, sounds like MOBO is shot, or could be shorting on something.

My previous Z390 F gaming has LEDs, would get to the second one then power down.
Sent it back and they replaced it.

I had to take mine out the case, put it on a wooden table and try it there to eliminate shorting possibilities.
Made no difference though.

My bad on the leds, I think I was looking at the -A variant.

But good that it works now. Definitely makes it seem like maybe it's a short of somekind. Good luck putting it back in the case. :blobmorning2:

Edit: Saw your posts in the steam thread. :blobpraise: Personally I'd still keep a close eye on it of course, it doesn't seem like the temp issue should've caused what you described here at first.

But who knows, PC's am I right.

So I turn to you guys and gals, as I do, from time to time about hardware.

I'm updating my i5 3000 series htpc to an i5 6000 series, using all second hand parts - that's the idea so far, anyway.
Am wondering what the Council's thought are on used PSU's? Every other part except the ssd/hdd in it are 2nd hand, so I have some experience with most aspects, but a PSU seems like something I should relent and spend some real money on, just in case?

I'm lowering my update something fierce, feels really good /s

I'm thinking about just buying a case and a cpu fan to solve my two obvious issues :
  • my current case whines unless I put an ashtray under the front.
  • the cooling is woefully inadequate.

I was thinking of a Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition LGA1700.
It's a good brand right, it will do the job better than a wraith spire ? Why yes, I have to save even on the cpu fan.
That and a BeQuiet PureBase 500DX with its 3x stock fans.

Uh, the rumored specs of the 40xx series are tempting. I may wait for release and try my hand at buying one (and fail spectacularly in a sea of scalpers obviously).
The 4080 would be 320W
The 4070 would be 285W

I don't know shit about that, which PSU power would be appropriate ? I've got a 550W, I think.

We must wait and see.
But the 3000 generation did have very high wattage spikes for very short amounts of time.
Because of this these cards needed PSUs with 700 or 800 watt power.
I would assume that the 4000 generation will also need similar PSU power.

This probably isn't the right thread, but I'm still on Win 10, thinking of upgrading to Win 11.
Any reason for/against? I literally just play games and browse the Internet on it.

For your use case it's probably fine.

Most of the (many) annoyances of Windows 11 can be worked around with 3rd party software or settings at this point. I still wonder who had the bright idea to put the actually useful version of the explorer context menu behind an extra menu.

The lack of switching window when holding a file is beginning to seriously annoy me.
I don’t even know if I’m clear, it’s so simple and at the same time hard to put into word for me.

Why not give Linux a try? :D
Ive used Manjaro Linux (KDE) for quite a while now and hardly have any problems with games or otherwise

Yay or Nay ?

The CPU Fan should do a decent job if I don't want to sell a kidney for a Noctua ?
And the PSU should be good for the new nvidia 400xx ? (yeah I know no one can read the future, just asking for your opinion)

I would say that this looks good.

Concerning my previous statement about the power strikes:
This is most concerning if you get the higher end models (3080+) in combination with CPUs that have a high power draw.
For mid tier cards like the 3070 and below in combination with a CPU such as the Ryzen 5600x that you selected it is possible to use PSUs with 650 watt or something similar.
I would assume that this is similar for the 4000 series.
So if you plan to get a 4060/4070 or something like that you can select a lower powered PSU (750 watt or even lower) than that which you currently have selected.

Pommes Hmm, tricky, as I’m still not decided on wether to go 4070 or 4080. On the other hand, yeah, I’ve seen benchmarks and not convinced to go further than 5600x.
Well, I guess I could wait for the ryzen 7000 but between a new mobo and ddr5, it would add up fast.

I'm in no hurry to update to Win11 tbh. When DirectStorage actually ships in games, I'll see if the "latest storage optimizations" that Win11 has vs Win10 is actually meaningful in any way.
The other thing I'm curious about is the "Optimizations for windowed games", which I think is still in insider builds only. Probably rolls around to everyone in the next big update.

It still kind of surprised me that they needed to build a new API with DirectStorage instead of managing update the old one so older games could benefit too.
By the way, does Spidey use the new storage API? I don't think I've seen anyone mention it, so I would assume that no.

I want to get a Gilikit KingKong Pro 2 Controller but nowhere seems to sell them. Any ideas?

They're sold out everywhere right now. From what I gather this isn't just a UK supply issue.

It's funny having read all these news for like 3 months about card availability and prices dropping, and then I look at the local stores and the prices have only really gone down like 40€ since April for the card I bought.

By Grabthar's hammer, what a savings.

Here in CAD-land, both teams still selling most of the 6800/3080 level cards in the $1000 range, so I hope to see some big drops as September and October roll in.

I've seen a few streams & videos with tech reporters saying "Price War! Cards cheaper than ever!" and a big chunk of comments and chat are people outside the U.S. saying, "nahhhhhh, not over here, mate". ha
I'll give it a few weeks for the incentives and marketting and warehouse stock clearance to start up before i take a serious look at a new card.
Do i seek out cheap deals on a 5800X3D and an RTX 3080/90 to extend my current system lifespan or go all in on a new AM5 system with an RTX 4k?
Gonna wait and see how things shape up in the next few months.

C-Dub Thanks for the heads-up.

The Gulikit King Kong 2 Pro turned up today and an initial check looks good with no grindy sticks like some have reported. It also has some features i didn't realise it had or hadn't really paid attention to them so i'm gonna put a sticky note on my wall with some shortcuts to the Macro recording & Playback and button switchers and stick recalibration.

I'll be giving it a go tonight on PC/Steam Deck and Switch... hopefully.

Do i need a new CPU? currently have an 8700k and a 3090.

Thing that is making me question it is i am getting terrible stuttering from Hitman 3 and no amount of graphic setting tweaking is fixing it. Is my CPU bottlenecking?

Its the only game that im having any kind of serious issue with so im inclined to think its a Hitman thing and not a my system thing but im also not very clued up on this sort of thing.
