Can't disagree with much of anything you've said here.I don't think it's that surprising. Circus Electrique is an obvious DD-clone. So for most people the question isn't, "Is Circus Electrique worth the money and time?" The question is, "Is Circus Electrique better than Darkest Dungeon?" But CE isn't showing much that differentiates it from DD. It's got a different theme, but that's all I can tell from the store page. Worse yet, nobody has even finished Darkest Dungeon yet. The game is long, tough, and grindy, and Steam's achievements show only 4% of players have finished it. Why bother with CE if it doesn't seem to do anything new, and I haven't even finished the game it's copying?
The indie scene is flooded with clones of popular titles these days. You've got 10-billion action roguelikes following in the wake of Spelunky and Isaac. Infinite deckbuilders fighting over StS's scraps. Vampire Survivors got cloned 50 times within like, an hour of launching. And Stardew Valley created enough clones to ruin yesterday's Nintendo Direct.
I've tried "Popular Game but with a Small Twist" quite a few times. Almost all of them have disappointed me. They set the bar high for themselves by drawing comparisons to amazing games and usually fail to reach it. I'd rather play a 6/10 game that's doing something I haven't experienced before than a 8/10 game that's retreading old ground, and I suspect many indie enthusiasts feel the same.
Your excitement for CE is helping to keep it on my radar, but it's a tough sell.
If it's worth anything, I just wishlisted the gameCan't disagree with much of anything you've said here.
I think Electrique could benefit from a free Demo on the store page because after you dig in and noodle around a bit, it becomes apparent that Circus has enough of a unique identity to warrant attention.
Stuff like the RPG campaign feel via the VN cut scenes or mechanically with the Moral system being just as vital as traditional HP levels. Circus performances, map node mini-games, etc.
I get what you're saying about a palette swap laid over samey mechanics, but honestly enough really can't be said about the shift in tone between Darkest Dungeon and Electrique.
Circus is just so much more inviting on a myriad of levels. Campaign difficulty options, exhaustive and well-paced tutorials, the ability to replay fights at no cost. And presentationally it's just so much lighter in theme. It feels so much more inviting. As one review noted, "Circus Electrique feels like you are making your way towards something with high moral but still has a sinister overtone rather than the impending doom and damnation lording over you in DD."
I know that vibe goes a long way for me personally. And it's presented impeccably across the board with consistent theme. Like the steampunk UI (dreamy) or the end-of-day recap via newspaper clippings, complete with child voice actor exclaiming, ""Extra! Extra! Read all about it!" followed by unique voiced story-beat headlines quotes that you can read in further detail in the paper.
But as I said up top, a lot of these elements could be better communicated through a demo. Something that genre fans could discover for themselves.
All good either way. My initial post was more genuine surprise that it's flying under the radar than any kind of rebuke.
The 2nd was the only one i havent played yet but i bought the full bundle1 or both

You know how they "solved" the issue with the actor? They ENCRYPTED the character archive . Ut's unencrypted on consoles.

Honestly, it's not a big deal. I probably wasn't going to start the game today anyway.
