I may go console, every cards are on the table. I'm in no rush but if Nvidia outprice me for my christmas gift, hey, their loss.
I could also go Deck or ride my 2060 super into the sunset.

Not all is bad news, those 30 series prices will continue to fall. Maybe we'll see RTX 3080's going for 500 lol
Well that's Nvidia's plan too. Simultaneously mark up the "4080" series to get the people with too much money to burn to buy the 4090 instead while getting people who are fringe buyers to help buy up the large backstock of 3XXX cards that haven't sold yet, just so they can somewhat drop the price of the 4XXX series cards later on.

EVGA was right to get out of this garbage, imagine selling these cards at $1500 just so they can make a $30 profit while NVIDA continues to keep undercutting the AIBs all the while.

HEY EVERYONE!!!

it's that time again!

Getting a late start with everything today so I'm not quite sure what we'll be playing yet but we'll figure it out!

And we're now just five days away from our upcoming charity stream. I'm still trying to figure out some good incentives for it but I have a few in mind that should work well. :cuteblob:

Not sure if I will continue Axiom Verge 2. The first game was great, but also one of the first new metroidvania games in these "metroidvania indie" era, compared to a ton of others, it kinda feels very outdated. like a very basic metroidvania game and I know that a lot of fans didn't like the sequel.

playing through Submerged: Hidden Depths via the EGS freebie from a few weeks ago; it's not as good as Sable, of course, but it scratches a vaguely similar itch as far as chill, combat-free, streamlined open-world games go, and it's pretty solid if you're looking for something in that vein. I'd skip it if you didn't enjoy the original Submerged, though; traversal and exploration are a bit more involved than I remember the first game getting, but it's definitely an iterative sequel

I arrived in Lisbon today, got drunk, tryied to ride a eletric scooter, fell down and scratched my arms.... So... That was fun.

Maybe I can find a 3060 while i'm here.
visited a few months ago, absolutely beautiful city - take a side trip to Sintra if you can

The state of Nvidia right now is actually insane:

  • Massive backstock of cards, both Nvidia and their partners produced, which have such tiny profit margins (because of Nvidia) that manufacturers will lose money if they discount them at all (but they'll have to, to move them, eventually). There are also cards that were specifically made for only mining that really can't be resold or if new can't be sold now - just waste and loss
  • The new 4xxx cards deliriously expensive for not much purpose
  • The 4xxx cards will likely be even bigger with proper cooling instead of whatever junk Nvidia slaps on their own. This also means more power draw, more noise, more heat, all things PC gamers are starting to get picky about
  • One of the most trusted partners, EVGA, dropped out completely because Nvidia made it unsustainable for them. Other partners like ASUS could easily drop their GPU branch if they wanted to considering the vast array of other shit they do. That's a lot of guaranteed income Nvidia looses if others jump ship
  • You can ALREADY get ~2x 3090 pre-owned for the price or less of the new 4080 16GB. Even if you buy one and it bites the dust after a few months, that's unlikely to happen twice, and you're still ahead. Even more ahead if you don't go for a 3090

I got a 3090 MSRP last year and I don't regret it but even if I had a billion dollars tomorrow I wouldn't buy a 4xxx card. Way too expensive, way too much hassle, way too unethical.

I had them blocked for almost two years as well. Their community manager was a real jerk on Twitter against people complaining about the Atomicrops EGS exclusivity. I don't think the company made any other exclusivity deals afterwards tho, so I unblocked them. Raw Fury has been publishing some great indie games lately.
It has to have been that then, yeah. But I was looking at their list of games and thinking ... they seem pretty ok! I definitely approve of them making their legal docs public and not being dicks anymore. So I'm sure they'll rest much easier tonight and going forward knowing I un-ignored them on Steam.

Return to Monkey Island is exactly what I wanted it to be. I've warmed up to the art style for the most part(Guybrush doesn't look great)... but the music, the voice acting, the story, the humor, the puzzles... It's all amazing. I need to force myself not to binge my way through it because god knows when I'll get another Monkey Island game.

Despite the price and chunky ass size the 4090 is such a beast. The benchmarks for DLSS3.0 and CP2077 are insane.

That is a card that should straight up do RDR2 and CP2077 @ 1440p + 144fps with high+ settings. And hold that performance locked for the most part I think. That would be a hell of a way to replay those games :so-good-blob: Can't wait to see the 4k benchmarks for all the other recent/future games with this thing.

The 4080 cards require a 750W PSU minimum, which is the same as the 3080 cards, and may draw up to 320 W.
The 4090 cards require a 850W PSU minimum, which is an increase over the 3090 card, and may draw up to 450 W.

with energy rising insane prices on Europe, this gonna be good.

Here's hoping that AMD's upcoming GPUs are decently priced (The RX 5700 was really solid for the $300 price, and the 6700XT just needed better raytracing performance), or Valve revisits the Steam Machine concept with in-house hardware (outside of the Deck). I'd be absolutely fine with an HTPC setup running the Deck UI though, with none of the nonsense current-gen consoles have and all of the extra bonuses that PC games have (scalability settings, quality of life mods, community patches, forward compatibility, etc).

I've been pretty open about how NVIDIA has practically abandoned the budget GPU market, and how they're continuing to milk the midrange and high-end GPUs to death with exorbitant prices. Can't see myself going back to consoles either (Because of how shoehorned subscription models are, multimedia functionality not being as strong as in the PS3 era, and the insanity that is day one patches and disc installs (I set up a relative's Xbox for them, the process of getting disc games up and running was time consuming, and had to restart installing one of them because the patch download got stuck and failed at one point)). And even if I wanted to go back to consoles, I'd have to give up a ton of things, and even then, you still can't buy a PS5 or XSX at a retail store, nearly three years later.

I remember back when you could buy an entire PC for $450-500 that performed similarly to a PS4 (and later Xbox One X) for a decent price. I doubt even the price difference of not having to pay for online subscriptions will even cover the price increases that NVIDIA has been doing now.

Outside of another golden age of JRPGs, and handheld tech being really impressive, I don't think it's a particularly great time to be into gaming (Unless you are willing to go diving into Steam's curated store to find some diamond indie games).

The first three games has no DLSS, I think.

And the ones with DLSS are comparing DLSS2 against the DLSS3 frame interpolation thing (including Warhammer and Flight Simulator).
So the real performance of the 4090 is between 50% to 75% higher than the 3090 Ti, 4080 is like mid 20s% higher than the 3090 Ti, and 4070 4080 12GB is slightly worse than a 3090 Ti?

Gotta wait for the real reviews for that but probably. Would be interesting to see if the new features on DLSS 3 is locked to the 40 series because of hardware or just arbitrary limitation from the 2/3 series. Maybe fsr 3.0 can copy it and deliver similar performance for all rx/rtx cards. Copium.

I'm sure DLSS 3 needs 40 series to work the same way integer scaling needed 10 series to work.

This is likely part of the plan. The sticker shock of the 40xx series seems designed to push the mass market into scooping up all that sweet, sweet unsold 30xx stock, which I'm sure Nvidia and its partners would just love. :smart-thinking-blob:

Play more indies so you don't need a high-end graphic card ;)

I still haven't planned to upgrade from my 1080 Ti. It is 5 years old but still running strong. And I don't play games on my rig these days. Everything goes to the Deck.

Meanwhile, I just checked the price of a 3080 TI and 3090. Not bad at all, honestly. I would definitely choose them over the 40xx cards.

NVidia's response about DLSS 3 in a reddit AMA:
DLSS 3 consists of 3 technologies – DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, and NVIDIA Reflex.
DLSS Frame Generation uses RTX 40 Series high-speed Optical Flow Accelerator to calculate the motion flow that is used for the AI network, then executes the network on 4th Generation Tensor Cores. Support for previous GPU architectures would require further innovation in optical flow and AI model optimization.
DLSS Super Resolution and NVIDIA Reflex will of course remain supported on prior generation hardware, so a broader set of customers will continue to benefit from new DLSS 3 integrations. We continue to train the AI model for DLSS Super Resolution and will provide updates for all RTX GPUs as our research

Now if this is believable or not about the previous architectures, who knows.
Though, I wonder how the frame generation stuff will really look like, can't say I have much faith in frame interpolation looking good in fast paced games.
