Diofield tomorrow. Want to play it. Don't want to spend money :blobclosecry:
Jeez, Square in the next few month will be expensive.

And as they are big piece of shit who controls their keys firmly, no key sellers. So you pay high with a GMG discount or you wait months for when they remember they have the game and discount it.

HEY PEOPLE!!!

Going to be another stream where we mess around with some random stuff I think. I promised a little more Geoguessr last time so that's where we're going to start today.

I also want to give a couple quick hints at what some of the aforementioned incentives might be and let's just say a couple of them will be puppy and/or cat related. Which for those that haven't met him yet, I have a corgi puppy that loves to make his presence known most streams so we'll have some fun and cute ones involving him.

on top of that, Apple switching from x86 to arm isnt really gonna help MacOS as a gaming platform.
Not sure I agree, it is when they switched to arm that it actually became a capable gaming machine. Everything that was on x86 works on arm through rosetta. It is only the switch from 32 to 64 that still has many older games not working.

Buying a Mac to game is like buying chocolate and expect to get healthy.

Sure you may feel a sudden burst of energy, but you will get fat and it's not good for you.
Then you should read up on chocolate, because in the right amount its actually healthy for you!

But yeah no one is buying a Mac for gaming, one buys a Mac for daily life and productivity, doesn't mean one doesn't want to game on it too, even with my steam library of Mac games, I will always have something play. However I do want it to be better, both for it to be more friendly to games and dev and steam supporting it better, because the hardware is fantastic.

How was Tinykin?
Heard consistently great things about it and really enjoyed the demo when it was available on Steam, but haven't gotten around to playing the full game yet.

btw, if folks like indie narrative games, don't sleep on Beacon Pines, out tomorrow. Early reviews are very positive and the demo was great

I figured I'd give Crusader Kings 3 a shot (from the monthly Humble), but good god, the loading time is insane. To launch the game to main menu or tutorial map takes upwards of 5 minutes. I don't know if every Paradox published game has contracts stating they have to have crazy load times but this beats out Stellaris and Cities: Skylines by quite a bit and that's with no DLC or mods to load.

While the RTX 4090 operates at 450 W by default, the power delivery capability allows you to increase the power limit up to 600 W for overclocking. The card features a 23-phase VRM (20-phase GPU + 3-phase memory). NVIDIA claims that it has re-architected its VRM to offer superior transient voltage management. This is specifically to minimize the kind of spikes or excursions we've seen with previous-gen high-end graphics cards such as the RTX 3090 Ti and Radeon RX 6900 Series. These spikes often causes spontaneous shutdowns on some power supplies, even if they had a much higher wattage rating than required.

The Logitech G thing is weird.

$350USD is just too much.

Not sure who there target audience is, but I'm guessing it's for more "casual people"?

From a marketing standpoint, it is going to be sold at retail stores and will even have a colorful display at stores. From the sounds of it, it will have a promo tied to Xbox at stores, so that will only help it.

But $350!!!!?? I'm guessing people will think it's an Xbox Mobile game console.

Also it's dumb how Bungie won't let you play Destiny on Linux.

The new 40 series are kind of like... giant rip offs for more than the obvious pricing reasons. They're like intentionally misleading information wise.

I don't really have anything nice to say about the 4XXX cards, except that I'm glad the power envelope didn't get worse. Nvidia and AMD really need to cut down on power draw with next iterations, for the sake of the environment and for electricity bills. I'd like to see the power of a 4080 at half the power draw ideally.

Otherwise, the rest of the news is shit. Those prices are nuts, especially in these shaky economy times. I absolutely don't understand the folks jumping ship to consoles all of a sudden though lol. 3xxx Cards are gonna plummet, most already have, and their still more powerful than current gen consoles.

Plus I think we can't rule out a price crash for the 4xxx cards as well. Depends on two things I'd guess. AMD, and whether or not Nvidia sees an acceptable adoption rate at the current MSRP.

I think there is no reason to be found in the 'move to console'. Tech purchases can be very irrational.
I won't do it because I won't be robbed blind by game prices, but it sure is tempting to not play into Nvidia's hand and help them clean up their 30xx stock.
There is also the matter of the shader cache issue that comes back regularly.

But yeah, kneejerk reaction, irrational logic, platform warring, there are plenty of explanations.

Unless RDNA3 offers good value or you're willing to buy in the used market, building a new PC is becoming as prohibitively expensive as anti-PC gaming people always made it out to be. Is kinda funny that now the new entry-level for PC gaming might be the Steam Deck lol.

The 4070 has to offer better than 3080ti performance, for like 600$ for it to become at least a somewhat decent value proposition. If not, then skip Nvidia entirely.

Not to mention that people who say buy a 30xx they are lowering in price are talking about their market. In France I still must budget 860+ euros for a 3080 and 970+ for a 12go version. It's asking for a huge sum for older gen components.
And I'm talking Amazon prices, not traditional retailers.

Buying a console I wouldn't feel like begging, I'm not Nvidia sextoy (but yeah, there are huge downsides).

Guess it depends on principles and what you're willing to give up too. The only benefit consoles have atm is price, but the trade-offs are just too much.

  • Closed ecosystem
  • No key sellers/digital competition
  • Shaky backwards compat, which is neither guaranteed nor extensive
  • Paying for online and BASIC features (Like cloud saves)
  • No more mods, no more cheats. You relinquish ownership of the files on your system.
  • Game settings dictated to you
  • Loss of diversity in controller methods

Etc... Probably missing a few even.
Granted the weight of these things is variable per person, but I will never subject myself to it ever again.

This is not even factoring having to rebuild your games library in a new ecosystem. Are you actually saving money in the long term with all the added BS? :thinking-face:

Sure

I myself would pick those as my big issues

Why go to that extent, the old PC isn't self destructing

Are you actually saving money in the long term with all the added BS? :thinking-face:
No, far from it. The thing, maybe irrational, is that the more GPU or other components raise in price, the less the difference.
But yeah, just seeing console game prices is making me teary eyed, I'm not advocating for consoles, the situation is just plain shitty.

edit -
Another con : you want VRR ? Buy a new TV :so-good-blob:
I have the 2018 Bravia and Sony added the function to the 2019 one.

The way I see it, going Xbox with game pass is a temporary thing, one still builds on one’s steam library until the day one has a gaming pc again.

alao there are keyseller for console, I use cdkeys often to buy games and game pass months

Or just use console on a monitor?
Oh, good point. It's a possibility I guess. But for a long time the PS5 only fed 1080p to monitors, right ? Wonder if that has changed.
And not to be too picky, but I like to couch game with my consoles.

For the anecdote, I have another very personal issue with consoles and TV... my cat is not used to big screen and attack them :shlooter:

The 4080 cards are a terrible deal indeed. At least the 4090 is a beast with all the raytracing cores and teraflops. That is a good investment worth building a new PC with because it will last a very long time. AAA junk takes so long to make these days and everything cost so much. I think a rig with a 4090 will last you the next 7-8 years lol. Maybe in 2030 Valve will release Half-Life 3 or some new VR game that will require more power than that card. I don't see the new Witcher or wtvr other UE5 game doing much to it. And even the new GTA 6 is supposedly crossgen lol. Everything will run like butter on this thing.

The biggest reason I want a 4090 right now is Starfield mods. Maybe Stalker2 if it turns out to be very good. Those 2 games don't even have a release date anyways. So yea otherwise that card is a waste of money and electricity. The 4060 and 4070 cards will be a pretty good jump for the forseeable future in the RTX/DLSS/power space for most PC gamers next year. I'm guessing 400$ and 600$ prices for them. The cheaper 4050 laptops will do good work too for the casual crowd. The Deck and AMD alternatives will cover everything else.

PC gaming is in pretty good shape right now imo.

Consoles won't be worth it until PS5 is slimmed down and going for 300$. At that point I can forgive all the bs prices, paywalls and limitations. Xbox is all about Gamepass so the value there is entirely subjective. Probably best for college students with a lot of time to game and not so much a living room device.

And Nintendo needs to hurry up with the Switch 2. They have the most potential out of all the console companies but not with the current hardware.
