Elden Ring won’t be in my top 5. Or my top 10.

I am one of those Souls refuseniks. Really dislike those games.

Not sure what my top list will be, but Bayonetta 3 will probably be on it. If it counts, P5 Royal too.

Ai: The Somnium Files -nirvanA Initiative- too.
Yeah I hate souls like games too! Buuuuut, Elden Ring is bloody fantastic! If I can finish it, someone who plays all his games on easy, then anyone can.:D

Elden Ring will be robbed cos even those who loved it and played nonstop will have played it way too much and only recall the burn out and the cheap annoyances they quit over after completing like 90% of it, forgetting the wonder of exploring that world the first time and all the challenges they faced.

Same goes for me, I enjoyed it a lot but if you ask me now I can only think about the things I wish were better or I want to see improved in the next game.

I've recently been enjoying PC HDR on my oled and going through plague tale requiem with it. Then last night I made the awful mistake of trying an experiment, wanted to see what would happen if I hit duplicate screen and use both displays, and I completely screwed the oled image up. I did fix it up as much as I could remember but it's looked a bit "off" ever since :negative-blob:
Now I know to never try this:sweaty-blob:

[context: arguing that AOE4 is a remake of AOE2]
Yea, the game where you use the exact some ressources to build the exact same buildings, to recruit the exist same units to attack the exact same enemy, while developing the exact same techtrees.
Yes, two RTS with fundamentally different base designs (asymmetric factions vs symmetric) have the exact same techtree. Sure. All games are remakes of Pong anyway....

(Fun thing is, the original demo of AoE2, back in ... 98 or something ?..., had highly asymmetric stuff like nomadic tribes etc, but those aspects never made it in the final release. )

It’s not about the difficulty. I can handle a hard game. I just dislike the story and art direction of these games, and Elden Ring looks like it’s not doing anything new in that regard.

I do like the artstyle but yeah the story I don’t like at all. But I am open a sucker for open world games!
Open world is generally a minus for me. I generally enjoy games in spite of their open world, not because. I have enjoyed plenty of open world games, mind, but they need to be doing something else good to motivate me to play.

Strong plot, characters, and a setting that interest me will let me forgive many-a-gameplay sin. But games like RDR2 and Elden Ring, despite their critical acclaim, fail to grab me from a story, character or aesthetic sense, so that just amplifies everything I hate about open world games.

Not long left of the year! So what are peoples GOTY candidates?
Tunic and Sephonie will be high on my list. Probably Project Diva as well. But I doubt anything will beat out Elden Ring. I guess maybe Bayo 3 if it fixes all the issues 2 had. My hopes aren't high. :confounded-face:

Ultrakill would be #1, but it didn't hit 1.0 or early access this year, so I don't think I can justify it.

I have 3, not sure about the order yet: Neon White (I really like all sorts of arcade FPS, Lovely Planet Remix was my GOTY last year), Arcaea Final Verdict and HYPER DEMON (this one I need to play more).

Honorable mentions: Needy Girl Overdose, DJMAX Respect V Extension 2.

Wait, I must be going mad and imagining some other game, isn't this the game that had reports saying that everything we have seen is all there is and they are just trying to raise funds? That must be off the mark if it is releasing in March.

Edit: Wait I am thinking of Wu Kong

Elden Ring, Vampire Survivors, and Stray will be on my GOTY list as well as all-time favorites list. Raft also went 1.0 this year. It's really been a fantastic year for games, way more than expected. I've played a lot of early access bangers, too. Lots to keep looking forward to.

Random question, but did anyone order a SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis Mini 2?

This one was supposed to have some stock shortages (lower pressing than the first one, due to increased component costs), but my pre-order of the European version just shipped, so it seems I was able to get one. ;)

For whatever reason, Im using so long time with Plague Tale 2, a lot of afk time, 10 hours on Steam and only reached chapter 4.

However, I have promised myself not to get GoW Ragnarok until Plague Tale 2 is done.

Kinda disappointing tbh. I mean, don't get me wrong, this is one of those games that actually does badly need a remake. But I thought a "Witcher game by a 3rd party studio" was the most interesting of the recent announcements. So a Witcher 1 remake isn't all that exciting to me lol.

I guess it makes sense, it does stand out a bit compared to the other two games.
I assume they'll make it look and play similar to Wicher 3, but part of me will always like the weird and awkward CRPG that was the original first game of this series.

It's crazy to think that $5 game is going to be so high on so many people's GotY lists but it really has to be. Vampire Survivors is that good.

I'll probably also be including Return to Monkey Island on the list as that was a fantastic time.

I mean the first game is a weird game, but are they gonna keep the story? Because the first half i don't have fond memories. And The gameplay i guess would be closer to W3 but at that point it's a different game.
But it's so far away that who knows.

I wonder if it's to be an overhaul Witcher 3 style or a smaller/focused game that feels like, if 3 is Arkham City/Knight then this is Witcher Arkham Asylum :blobdrool:

I'd play that, hope they can make combat good and all though, flow more organic, and it does need changing and expanding the story with better pacing too.

Super dissapointed to know about this. From such a well liked VA too
His lover was found to be around 30-ish, so she basically gave him her youth and thought they would get married one day. Fuck him.

And Noctis's VA (LISA's husband) was also exposed for disloyalty last year. I guess many of these hotshot VAs are very messy in real life.

Question for those if you that have played any of the games in the Hitman trilogy:

How did you handle the locations?
Did you play through them, one after another following the story?
Stay at each location and complete all the mission stories before moving to the next location?
Or finish the main mission, then jump into escalations for each location before moving on?

Just curious to see how others have approached the game...

+ Free Castlevania Collaboration DLC for Jail or Bail

I'm unfamiliar with this game, but the mention of Castlevania still makes me pause and take a look. :)
Do you know, by any chance, if the content from past events (characters, skins, ...) will be available again in some way?

thanks ;)

This is being framed as a completely amicable departure, but I would guess that SS:KtJL is not the game that Hill and Walker had wanted to make to follow up Arkham Knight

still have a couple games to go through until the year is over, but I doubt anything can unseat ER.

Hitman 1 was released in episodes, and I'd play them as they were released.
Hitman 2 came out all at once, so I played through the story (taking plenty of time with each location), and the revisited the locations again after I was done, getting Silent Assassin, story missions, challenges, whatever else came to mind
Hitman 3 was the same: story first, faffing about later.
I never bothered much with escalations, but Im doing them nowadays when I feel like playing a location but changing the target within that location. I also never bothered with Sniper challenges much.

Well, they are leaving just as the game is essentially done. It was meant to release at the end of this year.

Them both leaving at the same time might mean they are starting a new company together. At least if it's meant as a retirement from game dev, then it's a bit strange to do it at the same time.

or they just took the opportunity to leave becuase Suicide Squad is almost finished and they've been working exclusively on DC properties for 15 years and wanted to try something new. If Suicide Squad wasnt the game they wanted to make they could have left years ago.

I played through the locations/story once, start to finish (I played each game as they were released), then the side campaigns and bonus missions (Patient Zero, ...), and only then did I went back to "master" each location. :)

I would tell you I fully levelled up a location before moving to the next one, but the truth is I ended up "jumping" though locations, because you end up liking some locations more than others. ;)
I still have plenty of escalations to be done on some locations. If you want to do everything for each location, you will take ages to finish the story, because each location has a ridiculous amount of extra goals/variations/unlockables to do.

possibly some of column A, some of column B.

If I had to guess, I would say that they were already planning on leaving after SS was completed, but someone offered them a forklift full of money to found a new studio if they left earlier

Huh, Turtle Beach made an Xbox (and PC) hotas and it looks kinda nice. Aesthetically it's somewhere between a full Hotas and the ol stick with dodgy throttle you'd never use set up. But it's kinda neat. At the price you could almost go for something like an x52 Pro instead with full size throttle and more inputs etc. but it still has some nice looking features and looks quite high quality. If it went for 99 instead I'd probably have ordered it already, lol, impulse sweet spot. Solid stuff...

I guess I like compact setups, I mean, I almost had my first stick be the Speedlink Black Widow if only it had some more inputs and was a bit higher quality when I was researching hard into budget options, it even had amazing reviews on the likes of Amazon but at the same time seemed prone to defects and stuff, basically the equivalent of Thrustmaster's current cheapo T-Flight Hotas X line or whatever it was called previously but probably of even cheaper build quality.
So in the end I just got a T16000 stick to combine with keyboard play so I'm still missing a throttle piece to get rid of the latter but there's no sweetspot price stuff available, Thrustmaster's equivalent to my budget stick (TWCS throttle) costs like 90-100 by itself, more than the stick for just 1 sliding axis. I don't get it, maybe if it was a twin throttle piece I'd think it's worthwhile. So yeah I've never been satisfied with anything or felt good enough about one to invest in. Except that time I managed to buy a CH Products Combatstick + Pro Throttle for a great price, it was brilliant but seemingly used and defective and the seller was shit and it took ages to get a refund so I never bothered again, now they too are going for much higher prices just because CH sucks with availability I guess. O well.

Random cool moment of the day, from SEGA's last stream before the Genesis/Mega Drive 2 Mini launch:

Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, the singer of various tracks for classic SEGA games (like that Daytona USA track everyone knows), singing the vocal version of the Space Harrier theme (it starts at 2:23:06; the link below should place you at the right moment):

---

On a related note, here's a cool interview (with vocal performances) from him:
