its time for the occasional "game stuff and not game stuff", starting shockingly with the not-game stuff before i move into game stuff

got my mom a good 50th birthday present, a nice diamond for 500 - i also paid some of her bills and secured an apartment she and my sister could travel to for summer vacation, although at the expense of me not being able to buy a new bag i wanted, but oh well - i was irritated at first, ngl, but in the end, you gotta do what you have to do - it is what it is

now game stuff, god persona 3 portable is so fucking cool
it's such an amazing vibe, something that just doesn't exist anymore - while i did play an emulated version of p3 fes which i eventually stopped playing, i took a new route in p3p literally by doing the femc route, and its just such a great selection of songs there, its just smelting and melting into your ears, what joy - so much that i delay my eventual playthroughs of p5r and nmh just to get this game done, its just so good with the songs

and while it's true that it is still a piece of not-high-quality port, with waifu ai upscaling and some lowres sounds here and there, the songs just make up for it, its like having a pretty mediocre cake but it just gets saved my the cream on it, no need to worry about the cake if the creme is just too fucking good

I've been wanting to replay Kena (borrowed the PS4 version shortly after it launched) and was waiting for the steam version to hit 20€ so I took the plunge.
Still feeling kinda guilty for paying that much for a game I already played.
I was also eyeing Like a Dragon which is only 1€ more but I played through all the other Yakuza games in 2020 and 2021 so I'm still a bit burned out.
I dunno, maybe I should've waited for Kena to drop more and put the money towards something I haven't played yet.
On the other hand, I really want to play it again lol.

After enjoying Wasteland 3 a lot I remembered that I got Wasteland 2 DC for free on GOG at some point and decided to start it. Seems to be harder than the sequel.

I'm hoping to squeeze in some gaming over the lunar new year long weekend. Titanfall 2 is really tempting at 90% off. I don't play FPSes in general but I've heard good things about the campaign and how there's a level comparable to Dishonored 2's A Crack in the Slab.

A lot of liquor is actually gross, I bought this bottle of whisky yesterday and it tastes absolutely disgusting and I'm wondering if it actually gone bad or if it'd always tasted like this.

Haven Park was nice. 3.5-4hrs to 100%. Good game to play while listening to an audiobook.

Mad Max was good but it massively overstayed its welcome for me. I would have enjoyed it more if it ended 10 hours earlier.

it's a lot of fun, but iirc it forces you to keep doing an awful lot of the side activities in order to unlock new story missions, which led to the core gameplay loop wearing out its welcome well before I was done with the main story

Yeah this was a nice game. A bit like A Short Hike but not as good/charming in my opinion. A little longer and the map was a little more complicated if you wanted all the collectibles and stuff.

I find it very interesting how singleplayer game length has changed over the years.

Go back to the PS1-PS2 era you probably had a lot of 10-20 hour games, with a sprinkle of 50 hour JRPGs and 100 hour western RPGs (BG2 for example).

Then you get to the 360 era and suddenly we are on the road downwards and 8-10 hours seem to be more the norm (again, some JRPGs and western RPGs breaking the mold) culminating in some games being over in like 4 hours (Kane and Lynch 2 anyone???).

Nowadays, it feels like all AAA games needs to be open world, filled with dailys and weeklys and their length has ballooned into 100-150 hour grindfests.

And I know I am cherry picking examples here, but I find it interesting that the industry went from the abruptly short cinematic games to the absurdly long.

Gotta keep that player engagement up!


I think my own sweet spot for story-driven games is somewhere between the 8-20 hour mark. Anything longer often feels like it drags on (IMO)

I usually play games in the morning with my morning coffee and I like having the same game to play, it becomes familiar and cozy. So it’s pretty much only RPGs and open world for me.

Yep. Not only that you'd often be gatekept by car upgrades, which forced you to do copy pasted content like bandit camps.

I just decided to look into this. Turns out, it did not. In fact, the early access version hasn't been updated in over 3 years. The developers instead decided to spend their time remastering the first game and making an entirely separate prequel visual novel and also making this VR remake of the first game. They totally promise that they'll get back to developing Consortium 2 when all that is taken care of.

I’ve been trying this habit of having breakfast while gaming and I like it so far, been playing short bursts of Persona 5 this week.

I think it’s a consequence of the 2008 crisis. People stopped buying more games, so they figured out how to make people stick with them.
