I would say Forspoken is not the best example given how poorly optimized it is in general but yes, it's a little beast.
Oh true but fact it can run it at all still bowls me over given it’s a ps5 exclusive (and that it’s not well optimised! :p) I didn’t think the Deck would be pulling that sort of thing off

Apart for the deteriorating eyesight I'm kind on the opposite of this video :thinking-blob:
I literally had to close in to to read this. I should increase text size in my browser D:

I've had a bad back all week, can hardly stand up without rolling onto my side, can't bend down without emitting an old man groan.
The reason - dragged the spare mattress out from under the bed for my bro in law to stay on last Friday, must have tweaked something.
Sucks getting old.
Yikes! but I feel ya, I had a bad back since my teens due to the lovely Bechterew disease. A joy to live with.

What is happening with Steam?

I had this earlier too, seems to work now again?

It will never not be funny to see *indies go largely ignored while you have multiple active TLOU threads on the front page with banger titles like, "I just saw a butterfly in TLOU!" and "What flavor of popcorn do you eat when watching TLOU on HBO?"

I mean, I get it and it's all good. But damn, people be missing out sometimes.

* real indies, not token "AA-indies" with 7 & 8-figure budgets and major studio marketing backing them.
yeah, but also...just let people play whatever they want :) i never got the "indies are better than AA/AAA" or vice versa. whatever you wanna play, play :) keep an open mind to games of all budgets, i guess :)

I just found this Youtube channel. Lol.
reminds me of that twitter account that regularly tweets out that Thatcher is still dead. :p

Reason: provided an url for the twitter account i mentioned

Oh god, the nuBPM is so not ready for primetime.
Seems Valve didn't fix anything people complained about during the beta, so currently the only good thing about it are cheevo unlock sounds.
I especially hate that it runs non-steam shortcuts in the background for some reason... :steam_pig_mad:

I thought they fixed it a while ago?
It’s… inconsistent. I love the new BPM but it still needs a lot of work in places.

While I’m happy we’ve got a replacement for the old one (which was pretty terrible), I think they should’ve kept this in beta for a bit longer.

Turtle Rock Studios

Turtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games. We don’t have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game – yes, another game! Given this, it’s time for us to put our heads down, get back in the lab, and get to work on the next big thing.

So I tried Trackmania... can you even play online against others in the free version? All I could figure out how to play was the solo campaign.

Everything you click on throws up the page asking you to subscribe to their service :disapproval-blob:

Interested, but would love for Sony to drop some official goddamn drivers for Dualsense already.

FFXIV is the only game I've experienced native DS5 support. And it's just "ok." It could be a lot better with help from Sony.
I'd get an Xbox Elite controller if it wasn't a complete lottery with the A button shenanigans

I’ve found the 8BitDo Ultimate to do everything I need it to as far as controllers go.
Although speaking of ergonomics I prefere the XBOX controller I'm really happy with purchasing the 8BitDo. Always connected and never out of batteries are 2 of the rarest joys of life

Yeah, it’s not quite as comfortable as the Xbox controller but the remappable buttons (via 8BitDo software) is better than nothing. And no fear of dodgy A buttons on a £150 gamepad.

I wish we had proper Steam Input support for it but I suspect it’s not popular enough for Valve to bother.

Thanks for reminding me this exist. Might order one soon. I have a 8BitDo SN Pro+ that I adore. Forza Horizon 5 doesn't like it for some reason though. And in Hades sometimes it got 'stuck'.

I also really like it.

Regarding the remapping, Steam input support would be better, but I am quite happy that you don't need to continuously use their software in any way and can just program binding profiles into the controller.

One thing I didn't expect is how nice having the charging dock is. Sure, it's just a minor convenience in the grand scheme of things, but the controller always being stored in its place and always being fully charged when you pick it up is... nice.

And finally, 50€ (the non-BT version) is an actually sane price, unlike what has been happening recently with those "pro" controllers.

Do you usually just use your controller to play anything or use KBM for certain games?

I use KBM for everything where aiming is a core gameplay feature (I think the most recent game in this category I played was Neon White).
I also use it for CRPGs, and strategy/building games.

About the only thing I think the 2.4ghz only version is missing is Hall effect sensors.

But if you really want those, just buy the Bluetooth Switch version (which also has a 2.4ghz mode via a switch at the back) and buy the Xbox layout ABXY button set.

Any problems with the comfort? The grip curve is straighter than xbox/sony offerings and I was worried it would get uncomfortable for extended playing. How's your experience with that?

I found xbox series controller much more comfortable than dualsense for extended playing because of the straighter grip curve on dualsense.

It's $45 for the bluetooth ultimate version currently in my local store, might pick it up regardless.

So I finished Hi-Fi Rush.

Best character action game since DMC5. Completely shits on Bayonetta 3 from orbit. I’m still pretty salty about how badly Platinum fucked that one up.
I really want to play it, but I'm already juggling Fire Emblem Engage and Dead Space Remake.

Yeah it have, also isent this the game that forced you to use an EGS account even if you had the game on steam?
Yep.

BPM in steam is completely broken for me. In the years I have been using steam link on my phone this is a first. I tried going to beta and back but all I get is blank black screen now.

This last week has been kinda bad for live games
Knockout City (EA)
Apex Legends Mobile (EA)
Battlefield Mobile (EA) (though I guess technically this was axed before it even hit Start of Service)
Rumbleverse (Epic)
Crimesight (Konami)
Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai (Square Enix)
Love Live! School Idol Festival (Bushiroad)
4 JP-only Gacha games

In a single week. Pretty brutal.

There just not enough man hours for everyone. It's like the MMORPG bubble was.

Right now I'm playing WoW and Overwatch 2. My single player games are staying in the backlog until I'm done with the WoW content and then I'll tackle other games. But live services? No, no. I've already dropped a few so I can do other things.

Clearly the bubble has burst on live service games.
Hm. I wouldn't say it like that. It's less that the bubble has burst - live service games still are massively popular and massive money makers. It's more that the current sub-markets within the larger live service market are saturated and trying to get into them is a humongous undertaking.

Every live service game demands some of your time and there is a finite amount of time someone has available. There is a massive first-mover advantage as well: live service games are constantly updated with new stuff, so if you're trying to enter the market you have to compete with years of content. And also with attachment and investment. If someone has unlocked a lot of stuff and possibly spent money it will be harder to convince them to move over to your new competitor.
Basically, if you're trying to enter the Battle Royale market, you're gonna have to compete with years of Fortnite, PUBG and Apex.

But I actually think there's still space to carve out new unexplored markets within the overall live-service market. Like, Genshin Impact is a massive success, because they opened the F2P AAA crossplatform single-player game market. And now their upcoming games will try to occupy different parts of that sub-market. Genshin is an open-world Action-RPG, Honkai: Star Rail will be turn-based JRPG, Zenless Zone Zero will be a combat-focused rogue-like and who knows if they have others in the pipeline.
Obviously still a highly risky move, since at that point you cannot be sure that market actually exists, so it's still not easy.

Then on the other side you have the mobile market where games constantly die, but also constantly release, because a lot of them are just really cheap formulaic games that make their money immediately back and if they die a year later you just spin up the next one. Though I think expectations and overall quality also keep rising on that front (primarily from China and Korean devs), so it will be interesting to see how that will shake out in the future.

I think I'm good, but damn, the linux side of the deck is... moderate difficulty mode and the ff7 patch, on a sd, is me being adventurous.
whoa , FF7 modes is beyond "adventurous" .... i went to check how to install 7th heaven and all the realted "Tsunamods" (mostly new textures for lot of things + now fandub too) and the steps scared me enough not to postpone dealing with it

Well, I only dabbled in the reunion mod myself, but yeah, the process is pretty involved.

Most live service games just don't have the steady flow of new content or well thought out methods for long term engagement.

You need in depth inventory systems ala CSGO/DOta and/or you need big IP power + fanbases like FFXIV/Fortnite etc.

A lot of these service games nowadays don't really have the internal resources to make it big. They just want to strike gold in the streaming world and push trends but all that stuff is really hard. Its basically a gamble and most will get wiped by competition.
