Really thinking of subbing to Gamepass next month to play through Wo Long and Atomic Heart. Haven't used GP in a long while but these two games I wouldn't play on Deck anyways and its a good money save. Money that I could instead use to buy more Deck stuff on Steam... like Return to Castlevania etc. I loved Nioh games so much tho you instantly want games like that in your library. At the same time both Nioh and Nioh 2 launched with all the DLC on Steam. So maybe its better to do a runthrough on GP version and then buy complete edition on Steam down the line.

Decisions decisions.

My only concern is how the port of Wo Long will be on PC. Especially the GP version. Its the one weakness Team Ninja has had is their PC efforts a bit subpar. From what I read the game is big on parrying like Sekiro so a choppy port would be very disappointing.

I'm simply ice cold on desktop gaming right now. My PC is getting long in tooth and the parts market being a trainwreck means I have no desire to build a new system either. For now I'm sticking with consoles and Steam Deck. Also I can rent games on console which is great for AAA stuff I have no desire dropping $70 for. I got to play Dead Space Remake and Wild Hearts for $32.
I've reduced my desktop gaming by like 80% because of the Deck. I still use it for fps games and anything thats too graphical. High framerate action stuff too. But the Deck just keeps getting better and better with these updates. Being able to easily transfer games from PC to Deck is huge. I've got terabytes of older big sized games that I just haven't bothered trying on Deck because I don't want to DL them again with data caps n shit. Not wasting so much bandwith to try out a game for a few hours is significant. I'm actually tempted to try GTAV and/or RDR2 on Deck now lol. Same with Cyberpunk and maybe even finally finish FF7R using the Deck.

If PC hardware prices are still insane when I’m looking to upgrade in 2024/25, I’ll probably focus on getting a handheld (either the next-gen Deck or one of the many excellent Windows handhelds out there) then either stick with my current setup if games don’t run like ass on it, or grab an Xbox or PS5 and do a combo of lighter games on the handheld (Steam) and heavier stuff on the console.

Remote play can make the whole thing pretty seamless these days so long as your receiving device doesn’t go above 1080p.

But for now I’m holding out on PC. People complain about #StutterStruggle but even with a few minor stutters, my experience so far is still miles better than on console. Just finished Dead Space and I can’t imagine playing this shit at 30fps or some low-ass blurry resolution when my 3080 with DLSS played the whole game at around 80-120fps. The lowest it dropped was 60, so I can‘t complain!

The main thing putting me off PC gaming right now is the price of hardware, so hopefully that comes down in the next year or so.

Yet Steam has beaten so many different records the past 2 years,
It’s not all about AAA games, that’s why. Even people who “leave” PC are still buying a ton of amazing games on Steam to play on their laptop or the old rig rather than let it collect dust. It’s just not necessarily the high budget stuff.

I suspect we’ll see some amazing SteamOS capable console-sized PCs for a good price in the next few years and those will drive a whole lot of growth for 1080p gamers and those outside the AAA space.

I currently use my PC to play, indies, old emulated games or old PC releases. I'm arranging all old platforms being able to launch those games on Steam (I downloaded all console ROMs fullsets).
My current pc hardly supports the current high-end games and although I buy the vast majority of games lately I usually play them on PS5, at least until the prices drop a bit and I can update it properly (it's the main reason It's the only console I still remain.
Preparing the old games to be released through Steam is one more entertainment.
Speaking of this, the last one that I have prepared is the game that Microsoft and Nintendo should have released for their respective consoles,
GoldenEye 007 Remastered XD:

Let me email you their addresses
No need, but you could point me to an article or stat showing people abandonding PC gaming and moving to consoles.

That people are tired of bad PC ports of AA and AAA games are obvious, I am too, but I haven't seen any reports of people abandoning AA and AAA gaming on PC because of that.

all I have is anecdotal evidence

We've just had journos report now on the consistent pisspoor releases on PC, so we might get an article about this sometime in 2026

I feel like this people leaving PC gaming for consoles is one of those message-board-only sentiments. At least I haven't seen it in the real world, and the few stats we have don't support it either.

One stat we do have is that less new PC hardware is being sold right now, but this is coming off the covid/WFH peak and in an overall recession, so I wouldn't read too much into it specifically for PC gaming.

Plenty games release in a great state, don't buy bad ports and there are still more games than you can ever play, same as any other period, nothing has changed.
Yeah, I agree with this.

Outside the Series S...console gaming is far too expensive to have any type of advantage over the PC space. Hardware cost too much. Software is pushing 70$ for games and then you factor in subscription services. And yea its too much.

PS5 needs to be like 300$ and have an additional half dozen exclusives before I go on a big holiday spending spree for it. And even then I still would probably play my PC/Deck 75% of the time.

Gaming across the board is getting more and more expensive.

Its probably the biggest reason Nintendo still hasn't released the Switch 2. They know it will be very expensive to put out a product with the power of the Deck. Their target audience will be pissed to see Deck prices so they have to wait a while longer.

Total console hardware sold is shrinking every generation and no one is shouting that consoles are failing.

PC gaming is fine, we are in the best time in regards to all games released on PC ever.
Hardware is a hick-up and will impact consoles in the coming years too, if the hardware and software tools wizards don't get their shit together.

I haven't seen it, but everyone I know who has has complained about this.

Since it doesn't seem like such a huge topic in the broader discussion of it, I assume it's particularly noticeable/annoying to people who frequently play games.
Pretty much this, none of my (nongamer)friends or my wife complained about the drops. Hopefully this won't be the norm for movies moving forward. (iirc I watched the first Avatar in HFR and that didn't have the issue.)

I liked the movie though, well worth the watch in cinema for the visual splendor. It just felt weird to see beautiful sweeping vista's and then a close up of a character running at half the framerate. Any sense of immersion went out of the window for me during those moments.

For me it just comes down to the fact that there is little to nothing that gets released on console that I am even interested in. The ones that are will hit PC eventually anyway. I can wait 6 months to a year for FFXVI. Depending on the quality, I can wait even longer for it to hit a price I am happy with.

In the meantime there is enough interesting bits and pieces for me to play with. The immortal empires update is due soon for Total Warhammer III, there will be a lot of multiplayer goodness. Most of what lashman posts as upcoming games could keep me going for the rest of the year, and that is from this month alone. There is a minor patch coming for FFXIV in the next month or so and at least two more major content drops planned this year. Hell I am planning on another attempt on the Moon Lord in Terraria, I still need to sort out the Island on Stardew Valley. Hell, there is a whole world of VN's out there I haven't even looked at yet.

And every now and then there is something in the AAA space that I believe deserves my attention. A Returnal, A Dead Space Remake, (hopefully) Starfield. Even then they will still be there a year or two after release.

So I can hopefully ride the storm. I don't think bad ports are going to kill PC gaming otherwise it would have done it a long time ago. However I think it is Nvidia and AMD that we really need to be wary off. I think they are doing more harm to PC gaming than anybody else.

I was having a good run of Returnal and got to the second biome boss and he killed me, and for some reason it doesn't restart you from the second biome but to the very beginning of the game. I was about to rage quit but kept pushing and then the game crashed. FML Lmao

Well, yeah, you really do always start from the beginning every time lol.

But keep pushing, if you made it to the 2nd boss thats a cutoff point. Manage to beat him and you'll unlock a way to not start from the very start every time
(or rather, a mobility option that allows you to use convenient shortcuts)

Sometimes I feel Im the only one who do not give a shit about spoilers. I have open arms for all spoilers. Immediately when I hear about there are spoilers for something Im interested in on the Internet I go looking after them.

If the whole plot for Alan Wake 2 and Crysis 4 leaks this week? Say no more, I will look after them and read it all.

‘Leaving PC Gaming for consoles’, for the majority of people who would do that, does not mean quitting PC Gaming. You still buy and play on PC, but you simply play most of the big stuff elsewhere. Because of bad ports, because of hardware price, etc.

I started PC gaming on a 486dx33, and there where whole years when I played a lot on consoles. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t ultimately come back to maining PC. It’s a matter of money and the quality of the games port.

As for me I’m tempted by the PS5, but I have the nagging feeling that it would be a waste of money. For one games price is out of control there. And I have no idea if I could stomach the quality downgrade from a good PC (I’m no fps fanatic, so maybe).

I, for one, am leaving PC gaming for console gaming.

This is the console and these are the games

Need friends, no single player, shit games.

In all seriousness, I have been pretty disillusioned by boardgames since the kickstarter craze went into full gear and also games pricing went crazy for the last few years.

Cacher What do you mean by this reaction ? Just scared I might not have emphasized enough the joking in the first part of my post.
That we theoretically disagree is ok, but not if it's because I badly worded a joke / shit post.

The second part though, yeah. boardgames price have long passed my impulse purchasing threshold. It seems that unless you only have a handful of cards, games are 40-50 now, minimum.

random Square is random

This is pretty neat. The combat had like 15 FPS, so if they could at least get that up to 30 or ideally just unlimited FPS that would be great. 30 would be a minimal baseline to make the thing feel ok when playing on a small screen (i.e. SteamDeck).
Still hope that some mods come along that enable higher-res backgrounds, similar to Final Fantasy IX.

I have been waiting for this Zelda sequel for 5 years. I am not going to learn about its content through a f**king leaked artbook. Now people on every forum are talking about it and I honestly may need to log off from the Internet altogether to evade the spoilers (maybe not on here). That person who leaked it should be ashamed of themselves.

I shrugged because I don't have friends to play boardgames haha :relieved-face:
