Too bad it does't track offline mode gameplay.
I supposedly have only 5 hours in F:NV, despite playing it for probably around 300 over multiple playthroughs
Huh. I always thought it did track your p[aytime even in offline mode and would just update your time whenever you went online again... like with achievements?

I've never actually used offline mode myself. o_O

That's part of the 80 million playerbase that's totally going to buy checks notes Satisfactory and Phoenix Point on the EGS.
Yeah, from what I've gathered, it seems like Fortnite is mostly popular among kids... Not exactly the audience with the most buying power... Unless Epic wants to wait ten years for them to get any disposable income...

They'll try and get some popular fortnite channels to make a sponsored video with how much they focused on that.

question is - will the kids want to buy Metro Exodus or The Outer Worlds just because they see someone else play it

key word here is "buy" ... since fortnite is "free"

Well they announced 4.5m downloads for free games with 85m (or 80m? whatever) users.
This tells me 5% is willing to download another free game.
Those willing to pay for another game is likely less than that.

yeah, exactly ... if 95% of their base doesn't even give a fuck about FREE games they're giving away (and you have to assume that a big chunk of that 5% are new people as well who just wanted to redeem free shit and made an account specifically for that, not just fortnite players) then what chance do paid games have?

Do kids even buy singleplayer games when you can watch the whole thing on Youtube these days? 😓

Isn't that one of the big pushes for all this multiplayer crap in current games?

yeah, wouldn't surprise me ... and you aren't even really buying the game on egs anyway ... you're essentially buying a key for the udontplay version ...

egs has ZERO integration with uplay - once you buy the game and activate it on uplay, you can just uninstall egs (unlike with steam integration)
I always find amazing how good a deal Ubisoft got out of this. Even if "only" 60-70% of previous Steam customers migrate, between the Epic moneyhat and 100% of micro transactions it is more than worth it.

The only downside I can think is long tail sales that I'd imagine are a lot stronger on Steam with the discounts than on UPlay (and EGS)

Dear Sergey, those are the games that I want you to NEVER Moneyhat:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 throw away your money on this mediocre overhyped bland game. With that kind of money, you can't moneyhat 30 other games
  • the next Call of Duty
  • how about those Electronic Arts games? I would be devastated if you make them EGS exclusive cough
Those are some excellent suggestions! Go get COD Epic!!! I'm going to be really... really mad (grrrrrr) if you do!

Another thing I found telling about that statistic is that the last game had more or less the same amount of downloads than the first. Granted, Subnautica is higher profile (and even I got it on EGS), but still, that's not a lot of growth on people engaged in your service.

I remember someone saying around the release of BOTW that he was taking care of two nieces for the day, and they just watched videos of someone playing Ocarina of Time and BOTW, despite him telling them that he owned those games and they could play them if they wanted, but they just said 'nah' and continued watching videos.

I remember reading somewhere (probably PCGamer or some random Twitter convo) that there's an entire generation that haven't even HEARD about Steam, and for them, using EGS will come naturally.
My thoughts on that can be summed up with:
Maybe.

Yeah, that generation might not have heard about Steam (yet). But again, then I don't think they're buying that many games.
And when they get older (and if they still game on PC), they'll probably hear about this kind of cool storefront with thousands of awesome games, going back way before they were even born.

Will they stay only with EGS then? Doubtful, especially since it was rumored EGS will have an upper cap on how many games they will ultimately feature.

Yup, they're used to the 'one and done' nature of freely available mobile games.
And in any case, a lot of those people will naturally get their way around Steam, as a lot of us did with what is now 'retro gaming',

Free INDIE games. AAA games are much more popular, especially among younger gamers. A GTA5 giveaway would do much better I guess.

This said, the fact that many Fortnite players don't even have Steam installed, indicates that they don't care about paid games at all.

Just for clarification, is that one game with 4.5 million downloads or all free games combined? (up to the point of the announcement)
If it is combined, the potential userbase who even bothers with free games will be even less because of people downloading different free games.

ADDITIONALLY: Not every EGS user is a Fortnite player. There are those who just install the EGS for the free games or who bought a game on it but don't have Fortnite installed.

So we could look at below 1 Million Fortnite players who downloaded a free game on EGS.

I just hope people are keeping tabs on the exclusivity dates and when that lifts and holding EGS+devs to those promises. I'm guessing Borderlands 3 is going to be the first game to time out of their contract, right? I'm curious to see how it's handled in terms of sales and reviews. How do you protest this?
Hello, as lashman said, yes, I started a spreadsheet when the first wave was announced and I have been updating it since the first day, why? well, there are 3 main reasons.

1 - No website has ever made up to date and as I have been very critic with press (personal reasons for this) I decided to make a sheet where every single piece of data could be found from status to countdowns.

2 - I don't support Epic nor the EGS (again, personal reasons) so this also started in part as a personal data place to keep the information updated so I could see it from time to time

3 - because I love excel so I make metrics and spreadsheets for everything.

Here you have a link to it, hope you like it and really hope it's informative Epic exclusivity deals status, it will evolve over time, I will add things, maybe optimize others, so it's something that won't be like this forever, information comes from official sources but some of those that are from SOURCES, so yeah, I try to keep it as official as possible too. :drinking-blob:

i believe they said Subnautica and Slime Rancher reached 4.5m each

i can only assume the rest of the games are below that number (otherwise they would've included them in that list)

another question is - of those 4.5m, how many people bothered to even start those games? or play them for any significant amount of time?

Yeah exactly, plus fortnite is on everything and is not that demanding. Dunno if that method can ever work.

Steam has almost everything on it. It be weird if anyone who gets into PC gaming in general doesn't have it.

It wasn't an entire generation, it was a certain percentage of Fortnite players that didn't have Steam installed according to Gally if I remember correctly.

Steam has almost everything on it. It be weird if anyone who gets into PC gaming in general doesn't have it.
Many young people do use Steam for games like PUBG and GTA5. But there are many gamers who only play one game, which can be Fortnite or League of Legends. These people obviously don't have Steam installed.

Exactly. I made an account for Epic's launcher for the Shadow Complex giveaway. I've never played Fortnite.

Thanks for doing this. I don't want to support any games/devs involved in EGS exclusivity deals, so your list comes in handy.

Also great you mentioned the publisher. Annapurna and Private Devision are on my blacklist from now on. Especially Annapurna plays a huge part in the introduction of (paid) storefront exclusivity deals on pc. They won't see another cent from me, nor on pc nor consoles.

Happy Easter everyone. Just got home from a nice day with the family. I played a bit of Yoshi with my niece on her switch which was fun. I got her Stardew Valley a while ago so she was showing me round her farm.

Now im going to gobble down a load of easter eggs and play more Dark Souls 3.

for us backloggers and game trackers though it really is a blessing Steam tracks these things on a global and public-facing basis.
Given how inaccurate Steam tracking is (doesn't handle offline mode, doesn't track non-Steam games, doesn't take card farming into account, single unexited program run can add hours to your platime), once you go Gameplay Time Tracker, you never go back.

Just a little PSA if you own Cyberdimension Neptunia 4 Goddesses Online. Just found out that my save I was playing on yesterday is gone, apparently the recent update fucked up quite a few things in the game.

I checked the community hub on Steam and lots of other people are having the same problem, with some having they multiple saves erased as well.

Edit: Save file exists in my PC but the game refuses to load it, like if there was nothing there.

On the bright side if you check the Steam forums thread on this issue, the developer is very active and already looking to fix it! :D

It does look nice, and maybe I'm a bit old fashioned for this, but I like less programs running while I game rather than more. :x

It is interesting none the less however, and I do submit, as Hektor also told me earlier, Steam's tracking can be a tad... well bad lol.

Spec-ops: The Line is pretty good until you decide to play it on the hardest difficulty. That's one of the most unfun experiences to be had in gaming. Gave up near the end because it was too dumb. Even for me.
I can attest to that. Played a few hours of it on the highest difficulty a few years ago and damn what a slog that was. Wasn't that impressed by what I saw story wise but I'm sure I didn't get to the really juicy bits. I stopped at a segment where
your companions were captured and you were ordered to execute one of them.
I'll definitely play it on a lower difficulty if I ever get back to it in the future.
Biomutant is a huge contender for epic store but that game is still quite some time off but discussions have been had, and other nordic and subsidiary games too
I got so fed up with Epic's money hats that I went nuclear on Biomutant. I preemptively took Biomutant off my wishlist and put it on ignore even though it was one of my most anticipated games for this year. Gonna look a right mug now if it releases on Steam after all :ROFLMAO:
I bought Forager after playing the demo and I'm enjoying it quite a lot, it's not very complex but pretty addictive and very relaxing. It currently counts more than 600 Steam reviews and a Very Positive average vote. Out of curiosity I went on Metacritic to see how the press reviewed the game. Number of reviews available from so-called professional outlets? Not a single one (there's a negative one on OpenCritic though).

Maybe that's why we need user reviews?
Well maybe the devs should've released it on a professional platform, like the Switch, if they wanted it to be reviewed by professional outlets. You ever think of that Steamboy? :p

Oof, losing your save due to a bug is probably one of the worst things that can happen in vidya games.
At least in this case it's not deleted/corrupted, hope they can fix it.

So after Spec-Ops I've started some Arkham City in my quest of playing good games I've owned for a while (while still buying more, lol).
And it's pretty good. Loved Arkham Asylum when I played it a bunch of years ago.

Yeah, I was 6 hours (roughly halfway thorugh the game), it is a bummer. But at least the IF account on Steam answered to me (and other people) directly, so I hope for a quick fix soon :)

One Finger Death Punch (2) is weird. It should be extremely stressful with so much going on but I'm sitting here doing one round after another getting more relaxed, just pressing them two buttons for hours. And I like that you can freely turn down or up the speed during stages, though it wasn't necessary until now, the difficulty feels perfect for my old-man-reflexes.

There's also a minigame where you eat/flip boogers.

Anyone playing the current Warhammer: Chaosbane beta? I saw a short German preview where he praises the game except, and that's a big one, saying that levels become repetitive almost immediately with the same sections repeating themselves over and over and over even in level 1. Deeply concerning. Wasn't planning to check beta out but I guess I should to see if a refund is in order since there's no chance they'll fix this until release.

Spec-ops: The Line is pretty good until you decide to play it on the hardest difficulty. That's one of the most unfun experiences to be had in gaming. Gave up near the end because it was too dumb. Even for me.
Highest or second highest? I'm missing, let me check, the chiv "MFWIC Complete game on "FUBAR" difficulty." but turned the difficulty up to the one below and it made the game really better since you had to play more tactical. Loved the story and liked the gameplay contrary to many who only liked the story and the setting alone remains one of the most memorable ever.

I actually 100% the story mode of Arkham Knight last fall. Didn't do any challenge maps or that crap but did EVERYTHING in the story. The different cases were really good, but hunting Riddler's crap got really tedious in the end.
Still, I don't regret doing it.

Yeah Asylum is great, especially as a first game in the series and also for its time when it was almost unthinkable for a superhero game to be this good. City is amazing too but (unpopular opinion warning) my least favorite in the series! Origins became my favorite in the series when it released, which is also another unpopular opinion to say the least :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-tightly-closed-eyes:
I'm a sucker for boss battles in games and boy did Origins have some amazing boss battles! It's not they're necessarily deep or challenging but they were quite entertaining and flashy, which by superhero games standards is good enough for me. Its DLC is also much better than Asylum's and City's.
Knight ended up being my favorite. I know it catches a lot of flak for the batmobile segments, but honestly, after 3 games where all you did was walk around as Batman and beat up bad guys, it was a breath of fresh air for me and I ended up loving them. It also was in many way the culmination of Rocksteady work on the series and ended up having the best moment to moment gameplay for me in the franchise. My favorite thing about Knight was
how it continued and concluded the Batman/Joker storyline that started all the way back in Asylum. Especially during the final stretch of the game. So good!

Yeah I know that feeling very well. Sometimes I'd be so excited to come out, maybe even preorder it, and then proceed not to touch it for years because I'm no longer in the mood. As far as the Arkham series is concerned. I played almost all the Arkham games day one because I'm a big Batman fan and also the timing of the franchise's birth couldn't have been better for me. My love for Batman was already reignited after seeing Nolan's movies. I remember marathoning all of Batman the Animated series and Batman Beyond the Animated series after seeing the Dark Knight in 2008. So for Asylum to come out the following year and to be as good as it was made this series very special for me!
it might not even be coming this year, its looking like a darksiders 3 type release of november/december if lucky last i got told. from few weeks ago got told it isnt getting a huge showing at e3 which is quite telling
Oh! Well now that you mention it I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. It seemed that they were quite confident about a 2019 release last year. I even got the feeling that it might get released early-mid 2019. But yeah they've been awfully quiet about it recently.

Given how inaccurate Steam tracking is (doesn't handle offline mode, doesn't track non-Steam games, doesn't take card farming into account, single unexited program run can add hours to your platime), once you go Gameplay Time Tracker, you never go back.

Unrelated, but I had no idea Dies Irae was that long. Looks like that's gonna be a long read for me!

I actually 100% the story mode of Arkham Knight last fall. Didn't do any challenge maps or that crap but did EVERYTHING in the story. The different cases were really good, but hunting Riddler's crap got really tedious in the end.
Still, I don't regret doing it.
Same here, but I did all that around launch. I enjoyed the heck out of Knight and was surprised to see so many people bounce off of it at the time. Sure, the tank stuff wasn't great, but it was mindless and easy enough that it didn't bother me.

I feel somewhat vindicated in hindsight by the calls of RDR2 being overrated, cos I thought that of the first game but basically no one else said so 😒

I've not played RDR2 though fwiw, but am in no rush

How do you know all of this about biomutant and MK11?

Dragon Quest XI gets better and better. Just finished Sylvandos story and it is probably one of the best JRPGs in recent memory. Why is the series so overlooked in the west?

Also switched back to playing it with my Steam Controller since it is the only controller I can use wireless and use it as a 360 controller and changing the right pad from mouse joypad to just mouse made me lose my problems with the camera. Maybe I should try that for other games, too. :thinking-face:

Origins became my favorite in the series when it released, which is also another unpopular opinion to say the least :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-tightly-closed-eyes:
I'm a sucker for boss battles in games and boy did Origins have some amazing boss battles! It's not they're necessarily deep or challenging but they were quite entertaining and flashy, which by superhero games standards is good enough for me.
Arkham Origins did catch a lot of flak at the time for not being made by Rocksteady, and for being buggy. Of all the Arkham games, I'd say Origins had the best boss battles, with Deathstroke being my absolute favorite.

Knight ended up being my favorite. I know it catches a lot of flak for the batmobile segments, but honestly, after 3 games where all you did was walk around as Batman and beat up bad guys, it was a breath of fresh air for me and I ended up loving them.
I'm in the same boat. The common complaint is that there's too many batmobile segments, but I never really noticed. I felt like there was a nice mixture of everything.
