i mean, i can understand fatalities - since there is no real interaction during those .... but krypt? there's ACTUAL gameplay there ... why the hell would you lock that at 30fps?! (and that's 100% on NRS ... QLOC only did what they were told to do)
Yeah, it makes no sense. I hope there's a way to raise the fps cap on that

Wow... I'm not that interested in Mortal Kombat, but I almost caved after seeing the deep discount at GMG the other day. Glad I didn't. Sounds like a goddamn mess even if the performance improves.

I can't wait to see the score for for stuff like borderlands 3 and Microsoft Cali- I mean Obisidian Entertainment game in 2020, I want to see to actually like 20 percent positive review score at launch and the best part Valve can't censor the score at launch :)

That reminds me, I have a couple of Obsidian games in my library, I think its time to leave negative reviews on them like I did for Ubisoft, 2k and remedy.

Tim doesn't want healthy competition ... he wants absolute domination

he literally already said that in one of his tweets (or reddit posts, can't remember) ... where he said something along the lines of "i don't mind other stores existing in the future. origin will have ea games, uplay will have ubi games, steam will have valve games" ... i think he might've slipped there honestly, said just a bit too much ... but that's basically what he wants - total domination ... first party games on their respective stores, and everything else on egs
Exactly. He also said that the outcome of the storefront war will be determined by developers instead of consumers.

Nothing that Epic has done or said so far indicates that they are planning to offer healthy competition. They want to destroy Steam and take over their position. Randy Pitchford confirmed this as well.

eh, there's no point ... doing that won't accomplish anything really ... either volvo will hide it ... or publishers will have one more "argument" against releasing their shit on steam

Exactly. He also said that the outcome of the storefront war will be determined by developers instead of consumers.

precisely ... that's why i'm saying they won't stop moneyhatting AAA games until the competition is dead ... sure, they might stop moneyhatting indies ... but i'm absolutely certain they'll try to get as many AAA games exclusive as possible, and it won't stop any time soon, not for a looooong time

plus - you still have to remember that while those exclusives are 12 months - there is ZERO guarantee all those games will come back to steam

like, i can absolutely see Focus deciding to just stay on egs and not bother with steam ... ESPECIALLY 12 months from now, for a multiplayer game, which apparently is already dead on PC (from what i've heard) ... they'd have to bring Saber back in 12 months to "port" it to steam etc. ... and honestly i don't think they'll bother ... if it was a single player game and they'd literally only have to dump it on steam without changing anything - yeah, probably ... but if there's THIS much work involved - i don't think they will ... and that goes for all non-singleplayer games, honestly

plus - there's also that split still ... i can imagine at least a few of those bigger indies will want to just stay on egs and get 88% (or whatever it ends up being)

Holy heck, over 220+ posts to catch up on in this thread alone since I checked last night. :highfiveblob:

The other problem is, the MC is always weak and needs protection (Collar x Malice might be an exception). Don't get me wrong, I like chivalry in normal doses, but something like Sweet Fuse is on the whole new level. What's the point of narrative-driven experience if every road leads to the damsel in distress situation?
The only otome I've played is Amnesia: Memories and "clover" scares me.
I'm keen to play London Detective Mysteria myself. Whenever the PC version releases.
Just missed the Otome talk it seems. 😅

My problem with them also tends to be the general helplessness of the Heroine. I like it more when she is capable, strong, and decisive. Rosenkrantz mentioned Collar X Malice, and yeah, that's exactly the kinda otome protag I like. CxM is also in my top 3 for Otome games and I wish every single day that Iffy international would put it on PC as well.

Here is another Otome where the Heroine is supposed to be quite competent.

Though sadly no achievements or other Steam features. Just cloud saves.

Square Enix is taking over Sony's E3 timeslot this year.
3 am in my timezone is a horrid time to reveal NieR 3
I hope you are right! Ni3R and a NieR remaster (for PC) would be my ultimate E3 wishes.

Edit: Oh and hopefully some news on Babylon Falls. That's still coming to PC hopefully.

i don't think so, to be honest

i think their plan is to keep moneyhatting exclusives until all the competition is dead ... i mean - sure, they'll probably dump all indies in a year or two and just focus on the big games .. but other than that - i really don't think they'll stop until they either snuff out all the competition, or run out of money (which doesn't seem like it'll be the case for a VERY long time)
Even if Epic made huge inroads into PC Gaming and basically stole Valve's lunch, Steam would still generate enough profits to just be around. Outright killing all competition isn't realistic. I have to assume that Epic is driven by one thing: greed. And therefore their end plan for the Epic Store must be to get to a point where they can increase their cut to 30% (perhaps even above) and stop the moneyhats, as they eat into any profits they'd make.
Capitalism is evil, but it's not hard to comprehend.

Ah shit I missed the otome talk too :cryblob:

I've been playing them since 2011 and nowadays I actually play more indie titles because I'm so bored of most of the heroine archetypes that Japan likes to put in theirs. Art isn't as good of course but I'll take it lol

If anyone wants some indie otoges to play without damsels in distress I highly suggest:

(Act 1, Act 2 is supposed to be out in a few months)

A few other ones that only have demos but are really good imo and coming out soon:

(This one isn't an Otome, but it's LGBT+ and you can romance dudes as she/he/they so close enough in my books)

(Not on Steam yet, but I think it should be on there eventually?)

why am I always tempted to buy fighting games. I suck at them
Same here. ;)

It's not so much that I always sucked at them. Once, a long time ago, I was a pretty decent player.
But now, I just can't be arsed to learn how to pull "x" combo, or check how "x" move uses "x" number of frames.
I have so many other games to play, I just don't have the desire nor patience to waste a lot of time with them.
I buy them, play mostly single-player until I get bored, and move on to another game. :)

I didn't use to be super into fighting games. Like, I enjoyed BlazBlue, but I never really had anybody to play with. A couple of online friends picked up BBCF during the last summer sale and for a good few weeks that's the game we were all playing... and I guess that's what got me hooked. Really you just need that first game to hook you, and the rest will come a lot easier.

Part of the reason why I probably don't connect as much with fighting games any more is because I barely have any "offline" friends that still game regularly, so we no longer get together to play them.

When I was younger, it was easy to get groups of 8 people, or even more, in the same room, so we would play regularly and we would do mini tournaments between us.
Playing these games online just isn't as much fun to me.

Stuff.
Great post. I never really thought to check the indie scene for these things, but then again, the art-style's are one of the biggest draws to me. 😅 Like you just don't really see that kinda art they use in Otome games in too much else. Nowadays everything more mainstream is all about this "moe" crap/style. :cautious:

why am I always tempted to buy fighting games. I suck at them
Yeah same here. :expressionless-face:

Mostly I end up buying them to unironically play through the story and achievement hunt what I can. I did put a considerable amount of time into BB and Guilty Gear trying to get good, but meh.

In the end I get them to just mess around with. I'm glad SoulCalibur came back with VI, cuz the character creation is fun and includes a story/adventure mode around that. I really stink at it but was able to grind out the MP achievements anyway in about ~ 8ish hours. 2B's move-set is oddly abuseable I found.

The only otome game that matters is Hatoful Boyfriend. :coffee-blob:

(I honestly want to play more otome games but I dunno, starting VNs just intimidates me like starting shows does.)

Epic has enough money to keep this going indefinitely thanks to Fortnite. Valve makes around 8% from games, and we don't know how much of that goes into their maintenance (e.g., their servers). We'll have to see if Valve's war chest + the hits it'll get will be able to outlast Tim Sweeny's hubris.

why am I always tempted to buy fighting games. I suck at them
Same. I'm just really attracted to the aesthetic, but I'm too worried about my hand health to go all into them.

I was just about to add these into my wishlist, only to discover that they're already there.

Sounds like a lot of the bad ratings on MK are for shitty performance in the Krypt, 30FPS Fatalities, and SJWs?????? Where the hell did that last one come from?

Its a fucking murder orgy fighting game, what possible political statements could be happening here? LOL. The entirety of MK lore and history is about making a joke about how much lore they could put in a silly fighting game, how can anyone take any of that seriously in a game where they have farting ninjas, a dude who gets his arms ripped off (and gets sweet cyber replacements), and every character gets brutally murdered after each match but is fine the next round? Seriously, what a joke.

That's why I ended up not buying MK11 :D. I don't have the skill (or the concentration) needed for fighting games, so I usually just play the campaign mode if there is one. Gonna get MK11 once it's like 50% off and play the campaign then.

My understanding about the "SJW" whining is that most of it revolves around putting more clothes on the female fighters and Jax's Ending.

It's just as pathetic as it sounds tbh. 😬

Yikes. Well glad the actual fighting sounds good if the monetization is terrible then I can just wait till the DLC is out and the base game in on sale so I can play the story mode for cheap lol.

Spent 1 hour creating my character in Pillars of Eternity and I feel I should've spent even more :heroblob:
Honestly, you could. Depending on what class(es) you're trying to do, the creation could take a really long time. PoE2 specifically because of the dual classing stuff can take FOREVER. I honestly just looked up some cool multiclass ideas and went with those. I wanted to get to playing rather than obsession over Character creation.

The game will require a couple playthoughs IMO to see everything since some endings will exclude others.

So I caved and bought Katana Zero cause it looked really good (and I had a toaster laptop that can run it) and I'm glad I did. I beat the game in one sitting and replayed it twice the day after, so it's a fairly short game. If you know what you're doing and what type of enemy pattern you're dealing with, you don't even need to use the "slow time" mechanic and just speedrun the whole level. The music was on point, if you enjoy 80s synthwave style music, then this game has plenty.

I didn't even realize the developer who made it also made Tower of Heaven, which is also a good game that has a great soundtrack. What surprised me the most was the story and how enjoyable it was. There are different dialogue options and some are fun to use to see what's gonna happen. Protagonist being this amnesic, experimented soldier junkie who constantly rely on chronos or otherwise time will completely stop for him is some nightmare fuel stuff. Just seeing the game "glitching" or jumping to a different stage then back to the older one throw me off a couple times. Also liked how there are nods to Vietnam, especially with how certain characters who complained about hippies protesting or for not winning the war. And playing as the actual "Dragon" was amazing as hell with his dash mechanic

My only issue are how few bosses it has and how short it is. It could really benefit for one or two extra levels but there might be DLC if the government lab with the locked door says "I should come back in a few months" is any indication. Is good game, pls buy and enjoy.

Once again, a trainer saves the day. A trainer was released for MK11 that lets you modify the cost to open chests in the Krypt, you can even set a chest to a negative value and the chest pays you to open it. God I love PC and being a filthy casual cheater.

And an option for infinite health for those horrible overtuned Towers of Time.

Speaking of VNs, we need a VN thread up in here.
I was thinking the same lately. When my ban is up from Era, there were a few friends I planned to invite here via PM, and they are quite fond of VN's as well.
Speaking of VN, the recent release of Eve Rebirth Terror reminds me that best works of Kanno Hiroyuki x Ryu Umemoto shouldn't be lost to the entropy of time (i.e. someone should do a remaster of some kind for Xenon/Desire)

Played Obra Dinn for ~about 1 hour. It's... wild. It's almost a little intimidating with the freedom and complete lack of guidance. But not bad.

It's looks crazy in the (Black and White) LCD mode on my TV since it has local dimming. :sweaty-blob:
For a little guidance, magnify each crew member. There is a little question mark near the profile panel of each crew member. Not much, but it's a start.

My tips (mild spoilers - only open these if you're stuck):
(chapter 3) observe where each crew member was standing and how the officers were dressed.
(chapter 2) observe where the crew member sleeps and compare it with the crew manifest.

So the game doesn't need to connect to a server for progress? Thats great, because micro-transaction sucks. Just cheat the shit out of the game! Too bad not all know about trainers

Cheat Engine to the rescue again!

I've been cheating my way through some old PS1 RPGs (Suikoden 1 & 2) and let me tell you it rules. No grinding ever. Money is whatever you want. I leave the battle system mostly alone but just let myself buy all weapon upgrades and armor and the game is much more fun.

Wow, had no idea they were still making those games. Looks like your wish came true, because they did make a remaster of Desire:

Props to them for keeping the art style the same. They really messed up Yu-No with those redesigns.

Oh wow. That is great. I'll consider getting it whenever DMM goes on sale again.

About Yu-No, although I know that they probably want to make the game more attractive to prospective fans of the game by making the artstyle more contemporary, I feel some of the charms of the original art style has been lost somewhere. Take Eriko-sensei's design at the start, for example. There's a certain elegance in her low-cut minidress that is entirely lost in her new design.

So instead of hacking the currencies, we can hack the cost instead. Brilliant, cheaters always find a way lol.

We have a thread for cheating, in case you didn't know :D

I support cheating as long as it is time saving purposes and also denying micro transaction, especially when a game is designed for this bullshit
