Hellboy Web of Wyrd

Developed by Upstream Arcade, Hellboy Web of Wyrd utilizes an art style faithful to Mike Mignola’s original masterpieces. Like in the comics, the game sends Hellboy on a series of vastly different and wholly-unique adventures; and while each story stands on its own, they are all tied to the mysterious legacy of The Butterfly House.

Built in 1962 by occultist Pasquale Deneveaux, The Butterfly House is more than a mere residence; it’s a gateway. Built upon occult ley-energies, its strange angles and non-Euclidean geometries were designed with a singular foul purpose in mind: to open doorways into a terrible and fascinating dimension called The Wyrd.

Go toe-to-toe (or hoof-to-hoof) with a menagerie of nightmarish creatures and homunculi as you explore the realms within the Wyrd. Combat has been engineered to create challenging encounters that encourage you to learn patterns, dodge, parry, and - of course - punch your enemies into oblivion.

My game of the month, and likely game of the year, Alan Wake 2 is sadly missing from this list (due to not being on Steam, of course).
Still, super fucking hyped to get another Remedy game, and it really seems like this might be their best game yet, even better than Control. I hope it will still drop on Steam too, one day. Epic's financial woes will make that more likely, as Steam is the only place on PC where Epic can hope to get some of their investment back.

Thanks Mor !

In a year filled with big games and also big disappointments, I'm really hoping Cities:Skylines II sticks the landing. They had a last minute update to their PC specs and also pushed back the console releases which is the first troubling sign I'd seen, their weekly feature videos have been great.

Outside of that, while 3-4 other games in the OP look good - Station, Sonic, Jusant, Wizard Gun - (plus more on my wishlist I have to assume), I'm probably going to focus on backloggery. BG3 is in the home stretch I think, I really want to get into CP2077 + PL, and maybe go back into Turbo Overkill.

Lol Ooblets.

Extremely unlikely that I buy anything this month, but I'm extremely curious about how (The) Lords of the Fallen (2), Station to Station, Railgrade, Cities Skylines 2 and Jusant end up being.
Jusant seemed really chill and I'm very curious how freely you are able to climb or are the paths super rigid. The store page says "Explore alternative paths to find clues about what happened here", which sounds like alternative paths are only for more back story and you'd then have to go back to where you came and go to the correct path. We'll see.

Maybe I'll get Tony Hawk, depending on the price on Steam or 3rd party sellers.

Nice thread :)

steamthread / thesteamthread dot com forwarded for us lazies.

I just picked up Pseudoregalia, and I'm planning on grabbing Cavern of Dreams when it comes out in a few weeks. Tony Hawk might get picked up immediately if it's at 50% off. As much as I want it, I don't want to reward them for making us wait 3 years.

Happy October! Fully on board with Metal Gear Solid Collection. I might check out Tony Hawk, but the price may hold me off.

Silent Hope and Disgaea 7 both have had some positive buzz and early reviews.

Otherwise Crymachina is a definite wait for reviews.

New Frontwing VN, looks promising

I am hoping Phantom Rose 2 solves my minor gripes with the first one

Oh and Cities Skylines 2, but I will definitely wait for impressions.

Lamplighters League hell yeah! Love everything Harebrained Schemes does. Excited to see this one, too.
The game has a demo out on Steam now. I tried it out and I thought the atmosphere and aesthetic are impeccable but the gameplay seems rather simplistic and restrictive. For example, each character has a signature skill that can only be used a fixed number of times per level (like 2 times only). What ended up happening is that I just kept saving those skills for later. Don't waste it early on because maybe there's a boss fight coming up that you'd want to use your most powerful abilities on. So those abilities effectively don't exist in the game if you play like I do. And all the while I'm thinking, why do you need to restrict abilities in a sandbox type game anyway? It also feels a bit low budget or maybe designed for mobile/touch devices. Like perhaps they could not increase the visual fidelity or level design complexity because they designed it to work on a tablet later?

I was still sort of on the fence about whether to buy it or not but then I saw that they have a regular and deluxe edition available for purchase. The deluxe edition comes with an extra character with their own specific abilities. Now, expensive editions being the more 'complete' versions of games is no surprise these days but in this case a developer confirmed that this extra character will be sold as an $8 dlc on day 1. These feels a bit distasteful in a game where characters will presumably matter a lot. It's not substantially different from the general norm in the industry these days but it put me off anyway.

It's a shame because I do like Harebrained. They achieved a lot with not much with the Shadowrun trilogy and I'd like to support their work. Still deciding whether or not to get it.

I took a look again at Sony, MS and Nintendos online stores again because I was curious about their similarities and differences. All 3 treat them as "hey look at these games, but also look at these services that you can subscribe to, on top of this merch that you can buy from us".

Out of the 3 of them Sony seems to be the only one that has a dedicated online webstore. Nintendo use to, you could just type in eShop and it would take you to it, but now it's "Nintendo Store". MS use to have the Xbox Marketplace and it is still accessible but it's only for Xbox 360 games and they plan to close it soon and instead they now use "xbox.com". Sony meanwhile seems to have both PS Direct (mainly since it's a regional thing) and they also have the PS Store (this one has been around for years now). By the way with PS Direct you can buy Steam keys directly from Sony. Funny how Sony is okay with selling Steam keys but not selling PSN codes to others (they use to, but then they stopped)

That's just a simple look at them and I plan to later do a deeper dive.

Thanks for the thread Mor

Im about to finish BG3. so after that I need to find new RPG to play on my deck. It has been my morning routine.
For about a month I've been trying to find a meaningful and meaty RPG to play after BG3 and so far I haven't had any success. Would love to find something...
Pathfinder WotR wasn't it, Outer Worlds is boring af, Sea of Stars was a nice distraction but lacked real depth and longevity... BG3 spoiled me on everything else.

Taking a few minutes deep dive into the console stores and EGS and no wonder indies are focusing on Steam to release their games.

GOG seems to at least be doing some sort of improvements.
