Bit of an oddity, but I was watching a PBS documentary about the Discord leaks last night and a reporter for the Washington Post mentioned finding the Steam profile for the leaker so he find people associated with him for interviews. I kind of fell asleep before watching the whole thing.

Remember this, from lawsuit from employee fired from Zaiger (one of law firms) behind the Steam anti trust mass arbitration lawsuit?

Well turns out Valve sued them due to this...

Is that the one that had all the ads about Steam's "illegal monopoly"?

Interesting. Very interesting.
But 25 euros for early access is out of impulse buy territory, so not sure.
And I would be remiss not to underline the fucking flood of city builders releasing these days.

GOG's policy of forcing activation of newsletter spam on giveaways is... their prerogative, to be sure, but it does leave a sour taste in my mouth. :shrugblob:

The last good ubi game was Rayman Legends, change my mind.
Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate was peak Ubisoft.

A great trio imo with Grow Home/Up sprinkled inbetween them. That was a fantastic 3-4 year stretch from them.

Its been a rough downhill fall since. Just sad how far they've fallen.

Also I kinda enjoyed Far Cry 5 even tho I don't think it was all that good of a game.

The mario rabbids games are better than they have any right being considering they have rabbids in them.

But other than that I think the last decent ubi game I played was probably...AC Odyssey in 2018?

That's it's I am going to officially unfriend everyone on Steam and set my profile to private.

Good luck trying to find me now.

Funny enough those Steam antitrust Twitter ads are still up. I just saw one 2 minutes ago.

I still think it's dumb and very malicious how Twitter tries to hide "AD". It does say AD but it blends in with the background, why can't it just be in yellow.

Also I still don't get why on earth Remedy chose Epic as their partner for Alan Wake 2. Like come on there are devs out there calling EGS a marketing black hole. They bet on the wrong horse. AW2 would have been a perfect Gamepass launch game. All traditional big budget singleplayer games need to do Gamepass. Atomic Heart got 5 million players thanks to GP and Steam sales on top of console sales. That is the type of engagement you need to be doing. They should have gotten in bed with Microsoft like they did Quantum Break. Another case of being wrong place and wrong time for them. They really are unlucky.

well, Nintendo will save 2024 console market with Switch 2.
They most likely will but there is also a chance Nintendo fucks it up by doing something stupid. They've squandered good will before. They may pull some stupid WiiU concepts again and backwards compatibility/launch titles will be key for their next launch. But I do expect them to learn from their success with Switch and knock it out of the park for the Switch 2.

They were the only ones willing to pay for the project, simple as that.

Epic is shifting its strategy again into a more ROI positive one, but when everything was sign in all, AW2 was a project that made sense.

Huge ass desk router = Out, Ceiling mounted Access Point = In

Let's see how this will work. So far i get better coverage around the house, Steam Link on Quest 2 works fine, Setup was easy. I need to test outside range and Quest 2 bit more. But finally i got rid of stupid huge ass router that cluttered my space.

Remedy and idiotic Exclusive contracts with different companies and platforms so that no big fanbase could be achieved.

It seems to have done badly, very low on the player engagement charts.
Luckily it's not a service title so raw player engagement is not the whole picture. I don't play it that often for example even though I bought it day one.
I can see it performing better on PC as time goes on, sort of like Cyberpunk where having a high-spec PC helps a lot.

For real, there is a limit to the number of times such behaviour can be excused and Remedy has for years been choosing the worst option for its users at every turn.

When that deal was signed the store's fate was still up in the air, and the concept of "marketing black hole" was not yet clear
Sacrificing Steam sales for some extra money didn't seem like such a bad idea at first since most devs/publishers simply though "I'll make the sales back on consoles and then get double dippers later". It's an even better plan when you consider generational changes usually bring new players hungry for games to play on their new machines
The problem is that 2 unprecedented things happened: Steam's growth in the last years and massive scalping for new consoles. More people using steam means of your game skipped it you were losing on a lot of publicity, and the scalping issue meant most new consoles were sold to people that paid way more than market price for them, meaning they had less money to spend on new games (as seen by how low game sales was in the first 2 years and why so many cross gen game came out, or still come out)
Now predicting both of those things wasn't exactly easy, but to these 2 a 3rd one was added: the belief that Epic would successfully "advertise" their store and exclusives to the millions of Fortnite users, after all Fortnite is the gateway to EGS and all those users were ripe for advertising. Now this is the part even companies like Remedy, or Epic themselves, misinterpreted: those millions of Fortnite users only care about Fortnite. They ended up being completely "immune" to any sort of advertisement on their platform (including on consoles). This is the point where the "marketing black hole" really started. Fortnite didn't work, influencers didn't work, trying to paint steam-only users as crybaby losers didn't work, store wide sales didn't work, free games didn't work. Nothing is apparently working and this also ends up hurting console sales since it's still part of the same "Fortnite users"
Obviously now it's easy to see it and it's why most devs are avoiding it like a plague, but I won't fault Remedy to say yes to an apparent blank check, especially since there were no other options years ago (like Gamepass)

Without Epic there would not be Alan Wake 2. If the price to pay is EGS exclusivity then I'm ok with that.
Unless that's just what they say in PR to justify and sell it. Funding it "100%" is not that dissimilar to "we paid x for exclusivity". Money changed hands with a term. If it happened to be enough to fully fund the game doesn't change much. Of course they're going to say it wouldn't be made without this deal but who knows.

If Remedy could afford to make AW2 without the help of a publisher, they'd do it.

Not having a publisher is the holy grail for developers of their size.

I think it's pretty obvious AW2 only exists because Epic was writing blank cheques. You don't have to like it, but that doesn't make it any less true.

There are many publishers. Microsoft not biting at one point in time with who knows what justification or concept/pitch at the time isn't exhausting them all. But of course to sell this deal they may well tell us they pitched it to everyone and failed every time until Epic is all I'm saying. Anyway, they probably won't see another dime out of this game since the deal was a 50/50 split AFTER recouping costs (so another initially cool because they get tons of money up front but in the end free exclusivity deal for Epic if it does recoup costs but doesn't proceed to sell much more than that? Idk but it sounds like a bad deal after all at 50%).

Are you going to play it, or it's only digital hoarding :upside-down-face:?
I have played Kingdom Hearts II like 10 times, and I will play it a million more times. I will absolutely play it, for it is the greatest and most well designed action rpg ever created. Mere mortals cannot fathom its absolute perfection. I simply cannot not play it!
....And I guess the other games are pretty good too. Might play them one more time. I guess. Maybe.
