I don't think I've ever been less excited for June/E3 season. There's usually at least one showcase I'm really looking forward to but my expectations are abysmal this year. Right now the only news I'm interested in is what kind of launch discount Kingdom Hearts will get on Steam (if any), the roster for season 2 of Street Fighter 6 and the re-reveal of Dragon Quest HD-2D so we can finally know for sure whether it's a trilogy or not. I'd mention TLoU Part II but since they just announced GoW Ragnarok, I imagine that's going to be a ways off still...

I think this is at least partially because my usual wishlist is basically dead:

New Splinter Cell: we know they're working on a remake of the first one and I'm pretty meh on that (and ubisoft in general these days)
Evil Within 3: that's not happening now that Tango is dead
Dishonored 3/Prey 2: Arkane Austin is gone and I'm not sure if the Lyon studio has the resources to work on something else in parallel to Blade.

I guess that leaves plenty of room to be pleasantly surprised but I'm not holding my breath lol.
Maybe MS will finally surprise us with that Gears collection that's been rumored for what feels like forever? :shrugblob:

I'm a sucker for racing games but not enough of a sucker to buy anything 2K branded so Humble this month is decent enough for me

Yea this year is a bit rough so far. The industry is in a down year.

Last year was pretty hype with big blowout for Starfield. A lot to look forward to that fall.

This year looks like its gonna be a ports + backlog + indies + GaaS type of year.

Lets see if Valve does unveil Deadlock. and then there is Concord (lol).

But yea nothing really great on the horizon after this month. There is Metaphor and other than that nothing.

Maybe Xbox does some good reveals. There is still Avowed which could be very good.

___

Also I was thinking what else Xbox could stealth drop this Sunday during the show and I remembered State of Decay 3. That could be a good candidate if they've been cooking quietly all these years. The game could be ready to go.

I think this is an unfortunate result of the growing issues with budgets and dev time. It simply takes too much to make games now and all the layoffs basically made it even harder to have something else cooking at the same time as the bigger projects. I feel like every other year there will be a "lull" period not only lacking many game releases, but also lacking in new game announcements
Look no further than the previous State of Play. I mean I did get a new Dynasty Warriors out of it but if we focus on the premium Sony first party developers we still know nothing of what's next for Naughty Dog, what's next for Sucker Punch, what's next for Guerilla etc
Then we have Xbox which still has to provide extra info on multiple titles announced years ago like Everwild
And Nintendo is obviously not announcing Switch 2 at SGF. And I don't think we will see that many new games from them
So many games (indies too) have a nebolous 2025 release date that you wonder if they actually will release in 2025
This is the industry now

I haven't heard any rumors about it or anything but I feel like there's probably a pretty good chance we finally see a release date for that Suikoden 1+2 remaster

maybe a release date for Age of Mythology: Retold too, that's supposed to come out this year after all

and it feels fairly likely the Direct finally has that Fire Emblem 4 remake

one of those plus some sort of surprise that I find at least sort of interesting and i'll be satisfied personally speaking

I just want to see that Code Veronica Remake.
There's so much potential there if they don't cut corners and improve certain things.

Other than that I'm just counting down the days for SMTV.

Been hearing a lot of praise for Mad Max. It's dirt cheap right now and is supposed to run well on the Deck. Anyone here have a good time with that one?

They've been pretty bad for a few years now

Indie showcases are better

I'm very happy with this months Humble Choice. Almost every game was on my wishlist.

Meanwhile, I spent the whole evening talking to people in Fallout's hub to get some information on that stupid water chip. 😁

I'm just glad we are going to get a bunch of new cool game announcements/updates over the next two weeks, the showcases themselves don't really concern me anymore. In the past it's usually me sitting through 10 boring things for 1 thing I actually want. Might as well just catch those trailers like normal news!

There are still games that I want to see during the (Not-)E3 season, but yes, excitment level is relatively low this year. Two reasons: MS's recent stupid studio closure makes me feel that I shouldn't be excited towards their announcement anymore, and Switch entering its final year certainly doesn't help.

Meanwhile, I don't mind taking a breather because... you know, PC gamers never lack games to play. :fingergunsblob:

Yeah, my expectations for new announcements in the coming weeks are pretty low but there's still plenty of games I'm looking forward to this year. I just don't need to see any more marketing for them. Like, I'm already sold on Metaphor, Until Dawn, SMTV, etc, so I really don't give a shit if they have a showcase or a new trailer at Summer Game Fest.

I took a long, hard look into my steam library, and was disappointed by the completion rate as less than 10% of these games are considered complete (by my own standard). So I am going to pump the number to over 10% before buying another game (excluding DLC). 12 games to go.

LMAO YOU CANT EMBEDD TWEETS ANYMORE BECAUSE THE URL CHANGED TO X.COM

ANOTHER AMAZING GAMBIT, MR. MUSK
It's either forum that needs to be updated to handle x.com links or an addon that needs to be updated. Someone needs to do that

There is an addon that will handle the media links

Another solution is this

Again, someone needs to do that. I don't know who the admin is here :(

Fully developed doesn't mean fully optimized tho so they could still be keeping it in the oven for a release late in the year.

But early next year still makes most sense since that is when the S2 of the show is supposed to release.

With Ragnarok being Sept this does leave room for something in Nov/Dec. Either way when Sony does its next showcase we will see it there.

Also this game will be a big graphical showpiece for PC gamers with good GPU. Wouldn't surprise me if they partner with new 5XXX Nvidia cards on release and bundle it. Hopefully they do optimize it really well so let them take their time with it.

I was going to 100% the first Kingdom Hearts on my pirated EGS copy before it landed on Steam... But damn, the optional bosses in this game kinda blow.

Getting hooked on FFXIV also doesn't help.

I think done with Shadow of the Erdtree content before the game, i got what i needed from the previews, which is something to reduce my hype level, hopefully leading to more realistic expectations met instead of disappointment when playing it.

After the debacle with the first game I hope that's indeed the case and they are optimizing the hell out of it.

I was watching the OTK show and that Screenbound game looks incredible. Has to be one of the more ambitious/interesting indie games in recent years. A lot of potential in something like that.

I would love to see someone make a big Souls like game and have a second screen make you run through a Castlevania style side scroller at same time.

It feels like it would be a lot of work tho as you are essentially making 2 games at once lol.

Also the game reminded me a lot of that Dragon Quest XI definitive edition which lets you switch between 2D and 3D modes. And that I only played the initial/vanilla release. Definitely need to play through that game once more via the 2D mode before DQ12 comes out.

Tiny Glade has a demo out. Its a "relaxing castle doodling" game (think Townscaper, but with more freedom to place things) and whilst the demo has a very limited play area (and limited tools), it seems like a nice game, looking forward to the full release.

Do you guys think they've been sitting on a full Bloodborne PC build since the rumors started back in 2020?
If there ever actually was a Bloodborne port in development, at this point I'm assuming either there were some technical issues that required a non-trivial amount of resources to sort out and made development of the port prohibitively expensive or it was shelved in favor of that rumored (pointless) remake. The latter would be way stupider, so I feel it's far more likely.

That being said, at this point I'm personally leaning more towards it was always complete bullshit.

I dunno ... my guess is they had a build but it wasnt up to par — and when Horizon came out and was lambasted for its perceived poor port quality (it worked mostly fine for me, but lots of people had problems), they mustve decided to give it more time..... but then other things got in the way or higher priority and eventually they probably shelved it until the timing is right.
maybe fromsoft has a say as well and didnt want it competing with elden ring or now shadow of the erdtree.... maybe sony didnt want it to compete with the demon souls remaster or other remasters and ports (the way they spread out their PC releases seems very deliberate to me), who knows what else happened.

I might be naive but the way that Queen and others spoke about it seemed too genuine.
but yeah, theorycrafting is fun and games for a while only (to me) :) so, none of that matters until it gets announced officially. and who knows what sonys plans with that are now

I dunno ... have you seen the IronPineapple preview video? he played pretty much everything there was to play in the 3 hr preview event, and while he did point out there's reusing of base game enemies, he was adamant about that being a nitpick — and that most enemies are new.
