This will either be a small hit followed by everyone forgetting, or really really huge hit that no one saw coming.
I think it's likely that it will be successful and it shouldn't really be surprising. Papergames is a very successful mobile developer who make high quality games primarily targeting a female audience and this game has like 30 million preregistrations.
This is their first game that also releases on console/PC though, iirc.
I feel like to "fail" this would have to launch with catastrophical technical issues and no content pipeline. It's a guaranteed hit if it's remotely competent imo.

This looks fun, love their videos so pretty cool to see they are doing a game too.
DirtLeague still exists???

AND THEY HAVE 7 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS?????

what the fuck

Yes. the game should be good even to a newcomer. The opening chapters introduce the world bit by bit. I reached the point where references to the first game and old faces starts to appear more but they don't hinder enjoyment. I also haven't yet finished catching up to GFL1 story myself (really freaking long) but I can understand everything in 2. There are also lore records and archives to read outside the main story but they stay optional so far.

Gameplay-wise it's completely different from GFL1. Combat is simplified Xcom and easy to understand. Stages are very easy in early chapters but knowing the developer they will definitely add some nasty stages soon. Graphics are really nice and highly detailed. There's a refitting room where you can examine the sweet texture on each doll, and there's also coomer stuff (the dormitory). Gacha is abysmal though because both characters and weapons are in the same pool. Meanwhile, CN players have done the calculations for number of free rolls available each month, and the game seems to be pretty generous in the genre.

The CBT has been receiving good impressions from most people as far as I observed (among EN and JP players). They need to iron out some translations and text bug but the game should be able to launch very soon. Feel free to visit the OT for useful resources like doll intro and basic lore.

Edit:
Gameplay trailer
Sounds good.
I LOVE xcom but looks like we aren't getting an XCOM3 for years, and this looks like a genshin style AAA Gacha.

Yeah. So far it has no research mechanics (commander is living on pennies), but if anime XCOM is your thing this is the one to play aside from Troubleshooter.

You think that's bad? Since yesterday Musk decided he wants to get into italian politics
Someone give him a real job so he can reduce tweeting. Apparently taking credit as the genius mastermind behind all those different companies (but not their failures of course) and now also preparing to work for his government (aren't there any laws about conflicts of interests?) still isn't occupying enough of his time.

Not sure about the quality of these fan patches, but apparently they got permission to have the installers fetch the isos from archive.org so all you need to install, autopatch to their last public version, and play Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament GOTY is to run their installer. I guess why not, I'm getting them now.
The site is a bit old school weird, go to Downloads -> Unreal -> Full game Installers, repeat for UT.

aren't there any laws about conflicts of interests?
There is this

"
Summary of Standards of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Rules

The federal conflict of interest rules are found at 18 U.S.C. § 208 with implementing regulations at 5 C.F.R. § 2635.402. Essentially, these rules prohibit you from taking official action in a particular matter involving any entity in which you, or someone whose interests are imputed to you, have a financial interest. Imputed interests include (1) the interests of your spouse; (2) minor children; (3) a general partner; (4) an organization in which you are serving as an officer, director, trustee, general partner, or employee; or (5) any person or organization with whom you are negotiating or have any arrangement concerning prospective employment.
Additionally, the Standards of Conduct prohibit you from acting in a particular matter that involves a financial interest of a member of your household or if it involves a person with whom you have a "covered relationship" (5 C.F.R. § 2635.502). "Covered relationship" is defined to include (1) a person with whom you conduct business other than routine consumer transactions; (2) a person who is a member of your household, or who is a relative with whom you have a close personal relationship; (3) a person for whom your spouse, parent, or dependent child is serving or seeking to serve as an officer, director, trustee, general partner, agent attorney, consultant, contractor, or employee; (4) any person for whom you have served, within the last year, as officer, director, trustee, general partner, agent attorney, consultant, contractor, or employee; and (5) an organization in which you are an active participant. This rule is designed to ensure you maintain the appearance of impartiality in carrying out your official duties.
For more information on standards of conduct, see the Project Safe Neighborhoods Implementation Guide for U.S. Attorneys on Ethical Guidance."

But would that include a company that you own?

Is this what Train to Busan is about?

Say goodbye to the Prince of Purple
While the ADL is extremely sus, this is spot on. Steam forums are up to the brim with bigots and nothing ever gets done
Unfortunately, money has the same value even if it comes out of a bigot (or nazi)'s wallet, and money is what matters to any corporation (look at how after Trump's win advertizers are rushing to go back to X after Musk got a government job)

I thought the DQ 3 would also include the first 2 games but they seem to be separate purchases... Am I understanding it correctly?

To the average user, decentralization just doesn't mean anything, in the end only one thing matters, are the people and the content that they want to follow there? For me what I want to follow isn't on mastodon.
... and that's how we end up with twitter 2.0

sigh

Avowed is on Battle.net which is interesting. Microsoft needs to figure out what they're going to do about owning the Xbox and Battle.net apps.
Maybe they are having internal launcher deathmatches to decide that, and this time it won the Battle(.net).

Is this gonna be good for people that never played GF (tfw)
Yeah the devs said it'll be set up in a way that makes it easier for tourists to hop in universe. Still wouldn't be a bad idea to read up or watch some lore dumps, GFL is commonly referred to as the "Dark Souls" of gacha and it has a pretty in-depth, lore heavy world/story!

Also just top-tier Story in general. I'd rate it's story as top 10 all time for me. For games in general, not even just gacha. It's brutal, backed up by some whack ass hardcore gameplay that definitely alienated SO many casuals. It's nice when a dev prioritizes their vision over lowest common denominator gameplay for widest audience attraction and money.

Not to mention the PTSD and Depression you're missing out on!

I gotta be honest tho, i just don't fuck with that gameplay.
GF2 looks WAY more interesting because of the XCOM gameplay (and the budget lol)

Maybe i'll watch a summary but i don't think there's a world wherein i'm gonna play the first one.

I'm in the same position. Posted this in the OT just earlier
I've been using the upcoming release of this as an excuse to get into Girl's Frontline 1.
...The story portion of it anyway. I've heard quite a few times that the story is/gets really good and I've also tried to get into the games a few times already, but it just hasn't been working for me.
Soooo.... I've decided I'll just read the story!

I'm reading it with this Cutscene Interpreter following the order of this youtube playlist (these chapters do be getting quite long later on :O)
Am at the beginning of Chapter 8 right now. I wouldn't say it's been "amazing" so far, but it is a pretty breezy and gripping read and I'm curious to see where it goes.

In all fairness you're comparing a 2023 Game to a 2016 one, and we all know Gacha from the old days was quite a bit different. Not to mention the studio's only project before that was a single doujin game. GFL1 had no shot at being a big-budget Hoyo style excursion.

But, point taken. That's a fair stance. I'm told some of the reunions and beginning chapters in GFL2 will fall a bit flatter without GFL1 knowledge to fall back on, but not to a point of detriment.(y)

If GFL2 holds up as well as the first in the story department, i think you'll love it.

Downunder.
I don't think it matters which social media website one should subscribe to.

It's fine to stay on Twitter if one already has a large follower base and treat it as a source of income.

It's fine to prefer Mastodon to everything else because the decentralisation is the way old internet aspires to be.

It's fine to make a Bluesky account because your favourite hentai artists are on there.
