Care to elaborate? This was on my preliminary shopping list for the Winter Sale and as it is not on Keysites the current discount is unlikely to be deeper next month.
I'm gonna assume you have played Danganronpa, since this game is a carbon copy of it.
Making me wonder why Kodaka even bothered to get rid of Danganronpa in the first place.

The main story just doesn't really exist for too long of a time frame.
The protagonist is sent to the city to investigate THE GREAT GLOBAL MISTERY but for half the game, it doesn't even tell you what that mistery actually is, so you have no real reason to care about anything. And when the main story actually starts going, it's a bunch of silly twists that serve no higher purpose than saying there's twists involved, because it's narratively just very boring.

The murder misterys are largely also way more basic and easy than those in Danganronpa and apart from that, they're also entirely disconnected from the main story, so for most of them, you don't know either the victim nor the perpetrator as actual characters.

The characters are way more boring, the mini-open world doesn't add anything to the game except a lot of walking, as do the sidequests, and even the music is largely just not anywhere nearly as good

Soon I'll start the GOTY voting! I was thinking from December 15 to January 15. Any ideas for what could be changed? Any new categories? Was thinking of adding "2024 Game I wish I played" or something similar lol
Cool!, will start looking back over what I've played this year.

As for categories - I find (like a lot of other PC gamers I'm sure) that I don't typically buy games on release and so miss out on selecting them for GOTY as by the time i get round to them they are passed the year cut off and so maybe something for us frugal sale waiters. Don't know what you'd call it though and it might just get a load of random selections so maybe not.

Cheers for sorting the voting out again, always interesting to see what meta thinks.

We already have a "best old game" category, but I'm with you in that being important for me. If I had to guess then I'd say at least 75% of the games I played this year weren't released this year.

Maybe we could even have two of them -- best old game (without restrictions) and best 2023 game played in 2024 :p. But that might be overkill.

I like this idea but how about we make it a top 3 2023 (played in 2024) and top 3 2022 and below (played in 2024)? Increase the chances of finding common picks and possibly spotlight some obscure games.

Playing nothing but Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D over the last week has me once again wondering why the hell Dragon Quest VIII hasn't had a proper remaster/multiplatform release yet. Like, the PS2 version still looks so good at higher resolutions. It's one of those games where they could get away with a fairly straightforward remaster. All they would really need to do would be to implement some of the QoL upgrades from the 3DS version.

If a mediocre game like Crisis Core can get such a high-effort remaster, why can't one of the best JRPGs ever made at least get a tiny bit of love? :confounded-face:

  • Best game you played that wasn't released this year.
  • 2024 release you're most looking forward to getting around to.

As someone who likes detective and puzzle games, story driven games and in general games based on history L.A. Noire was kinda my cup of tea despite all other shortcomings. I did play it on PC and there is now mod that fully solves 30FPS lock and other issues so it was better experience when i played it second time on Deck recently. But even though i knew some things regarding that era and my previous wish to see sequel move to places like New York or Chicago i kinda changed my mind after listening two audio books related to LA/Hollywood.

First book was "Wanderlust: An Eccentric Explorer, an Epic Journey, a Lost Age" that focuses on Greenland explorer from Denmark Peter Freuchen and part that relates to to this topic is late in the book when he moved to LA to work as writer for studios like MGM. But he is not one that took my attention, book mentioned Eddie Mannix, MGM executive and producer known as "Fixer"

Eddie Mannix the New Jersey native had the kind of working-class accent that people mocked, but never to his face, likely because he was built like a boxer and had a heavy jaw like a fighting dog's. He had worked as a bouncer, or something like it, at an amusement park before transitioning into the movie business and working his way up the MGM ranks. Most people at the studio knew him as the "fixer," the guy who protected stars' public images by making their problems go away.* Mannix's own personal life was a tawdry minefield of love affairs and other scandals, which might be why he was so good at handling similar incidents for other people. Some accounts of his legacy at the studio suggest a sad history of abortions forced on starlets, sham marriages forced on homosexuals, and several unsolved murders—although the murky nature surrounding these incidents makes their specifics hard to pin down. He was rumored to have mob ties and probably carried a weapon on his person, maybe several.
Then recently stumbled on book called "The Fixer: Moguls, Mobsters, Movie Stars, and Marilyn" that is biography of most famous Hollywood PI Fred Otash.

During the height of Hollywood's golden age, one man lorded over the city's lurid underbelly of forbidden sin and celebrity scandal like no Fred Otash. An ex-Marine turned L.A.P.D. vice cop, Otash became the most sought-after private detective and fixer to the stars by specializing in the dark arts that would soon dominate the entertainment industry.

Otash was notorious for bugging the homes, offices, and playpens of movie stars, kingmakers, and powerful politicians, employing then state-of-the-art methods of electronic surveillance and wiretapping for a who's who list of clients for whom he'd do "anything short of murder." He lied to federal authorities to protect Frank Sinatra from criminal liability; recorded Rock Hudson's coming out confession to his estranged wife; moved in with Judy Garland to help her get sober; taped President John F. Kennedy and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy's tragic love affairs with the greatest sex symbol of all time, and he listened to Marilyn Monroe die.
And boy even if just 1/3 of things he talks about in that book are true there is enough material to make multiple L.A. Noire games. So much dirt, conspiracies, famous names and infamous events offer so much opportunities not just to tell the stories but to offer players different kind of gameplay. Hollywood is probably even to this date one of the "dirtiest" part of America, full of cray stories that most won't see light of day. So my wish to move series to other cities is not that strong anymore after learning a bit more history of LA/Hollywood. And i truly hope that Rockstar will at least give IP someone else to work on if they don't want to do it themselves. As i said first game is just tip of the iceberg, and there is much, much, much more material for sequel.

All DQs bring confined to mobile is criminal.
Everyone should play DQ 4,5. Pinnacle of the series.

It's seriously baffling that they never even bothered to dump the mobile ports of DQ 1-6 on Steam.

At this point I'm honestly not sure if I'd prefer a remaster of the NDS/mobile versions for 4-6 or just more HD-2D remakes. It would be nice to have the Zenithia trilogy done in a different style than the Erdrick trilogy. Plus, I'd assume remasters would take less time than full remakes.

Guys... what do I have to change to make camera movement in the old Steam Controller faster?
I have to swipe like five times to do a 360, its driving me nuts. And its so slow.
Best case would be holding at a position and the position would determine how fast the camera goes round.

I guess like the Zenless Zone Zero launch trailer, I really like how there's minimal camera switches here, it looks really clean and the animations look very dynamic.
The animations of ZZZ are really leagues ahead of other games. They are so fluid that sometimes they look a bit float-y. On the other hand, compared with animations I think GFL2 is stronger in character models. The relatively realistic anatomy and texture as well as great lighting really makes them pop. I spent hours looking at the models when I was playing the beta on PC.

Edge Spin Speed and Edge Spin Radius. Here's my Elden Ring settings:

Make sure to have Right Trackpad Behavious "As Joystick".

Generally, Speed high (for faster movement), and Radius low (so thumb doesn't have to travel so far to move the camera)..

The back buttons on the Deck are a blessing. First order of business is always to map the commands bound to L3 and R3 to L4 and R4. God, I hate pressing the sticks. Especially having to keep them pressed while running. Pretty sure that's the number one cause for issues with the sticks I've had on my controllers.
