Neural Cloud collab event confirmed. I haven't played PNC so not sure what to expect. Probably Persica?
They could add costumes for the dolls that appear in both games, like Centauressi, Dayan, Jiagyu and Clukay, or the alternate weapons they use in PNC
They could also add some of the PNC originals with their unique weapons/skillsets adapted into the GF2 gameplay
Or they could add some of the dolls that appear in both GF1 and PNC but not in GF2, like Kuro (MDR) or Florence (PA-15), but using their PNC skillset

The developers haven't put a release date on the Steam page of the Darkwinter version of the game. It's possible that they've not gotten around to it but I think it's more likely that the game is not releasing on Steam on the 3rd and might come later. Might have to start on their own client at launch.

Preload is up on both Darkwinter and Haoplay homepage. No steam preload yet.

Haoplay people can download the Darkwinter version through VPN or a direct link (probably safe but download at your own risk).

Quoted from the announcement on Haoplay's page (I am not being able to access Darkwinter page without VPN). Yeah, steam version should launch later I guess. Not good looking honestly.
The Steam version of GIRLS' FRONTLINE 2: EXILIUM will be released shortly after. We are working tirelessly to ensure the best gaming experience for our Steam players.

No such announcement on the Darkwinter page. It just says release date is TBA. We'll have to start on their own client and then hope the Steam version allows you to continue progress when it arrives.

Meanwhile the game autodownloaded onto my phone some time today.

I think progress should carry over just fine from Direct DL Client to Steam, as long as you're not region hopping from DW to Hao. Progress is account based, they confirmed you can freely switch between devices this way. IE: (PC > Tablet > Phone.)

The real question is gonna be for those in Haoplay regions whether or not there will some form of currency block that prevents purchases based on region as well. In that case it will be quite sad for Haoplay frens...

I downloaded the Darkwinter version with the direct link to the launcher: https://gf2-us-cdn-launcher.sunborngame.com/prod/download/launcher/1.0.0/GF2_Launcher_pc1_1_0_0_OverSeas_Mica_1732302259_6_1000005.exe
(Clicking on the website gave me a "not available in your region")
I hope payment stuff works fine, cause while I'm not a whale I don't mind chucking some money towards a F2P game if I enjoy it enough.

It looks like the Darkwinter version let's you play with a guest account before binding (hello rerolling my old friend), while Haoplay apparently does not provide this, so differences between the versions are already emerging :grimacing-face:
Why does this have to be so complicated :disappointed-face:

Yea I downloaded this one aswell, but obviously I'm not gonna play it, if I won't be able to spend any money, at least the cheap start pack is something I usually tend to buy

Also, easier to update the mobile version on the one that's actually supported in europe

This haoplay business and the staggered Steam releases are causing chaos for lots of folks. Every tweet from the GFL2 account is flooded with replies about people not being able to download the game or not being able to figure out how to get it on their preferred platforms.

I preloaded the game and when I launched it, it gave me the option to choose a language. The choices were Japanese, Chinese and Korean. I am ok playing the game with voice acting that I don't understand but at the same time I know there is a version of this game which likely has English voice acting. They've gone to the effort and expense of localizing the game in other languages but they can't offer all options to all users. Such a strange situation.

So anyway, what's the deal with rerolling in this game? Is it recommended and what characters should we be hoping to get? I typically don't like the idea of rerolling because even replaying the starting section is kind of boring. I wish these games understood that a portion of their audience wants to reroll and made it straightforward for them. I remember Atelier Resleriana did this. You could play the tutorial until you got your first gacha characters. If you didn't like your roll you could just delete the save data yourself. And then when you restart you could also skip the whole tutorial and go right back to the gacha. People care about how their first rolls go. When I was playing Wuthering Waves I liked a lot about the game but it was just too much to deal with while playing all the other Hoyo games. I still kept at it, playing slowly until I got enough tickets for a 5-star character. Did all 75ish pulls or whatever and then lost the 50-50 and got someone I already had. That sucked and I just deleted the game after that lol. Wouldn't have done it if I liked the game enough but I clearly didn't and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

There is not. Both versions have the same localisation options.

I think the recommendation is to not do it cause it's an awful experience (0.6% Hoyo rates) and the game is seemingly generous enough that the starting rolls do not matter all that much if one sticks with the game for a longer time.
So maybe the version without a guest account tempting to do it is actually better :cold-sweat:

Darkwinter servers are open! Was hoping to get a lower UID.

My UID if people want to start adding 15225.

Kinda tempted to reroll but want to keep a somewhat low UID since they start at 10000.

According to Reddit there is no regionlocking involved for payments, so that's good

I've been playing for almost 3 hours straight. The servers opened slightly early. It's beautiful maxed out on PC!

Why is everyone hiding their number? I don't know how to hide it and I feel bad :(

I pulled Mosin Nagant (what a choice for the name) from my first 10 (actually 8) pull of the beginner banner. There's no way to get another 5-star from this banner now is there? In other words, no reason to continue pulling from this banner right? I should switch over to the regular banner?

Still playing with the starting 3 and I'm hesitant to upgrade anyone else because I'm not sure who is good.

The game seems nice so far. Has anyone spent money already? I'm guessing it'll be the usual thing where the $5 pass is the best value for money. Also expect that $20 outfit will sell like crazy.

Well, I did it because I saw others were doing it too (click on the crossed eye and pick "hide until replied")

It costs less to roll on that banner compared to the normal one (8 tickets for a 10-pull versus 10). That banner disappears after 50 pulls, and it uses different tickets compared to the ones limited banners use, so feel free to use it still

Don't worry about that. I'm drowning in exp items (both dolls and weapons). But I'll tell you who isn't worth it among the starting units without even looking at tier lists: Krolik, because melee sucks really bad, overwatch spam (which she can't do because she is melee) is just as busted as in X-com and she also suffers from poor HP (I expected her to have double the HP compared to normal ranged units, instead she has less than Nemesis who is a sniper!)
I'm guessing it'll be the usual thing where the $5 pass is the best value for money
Yes

Finally reached Lv20 (around beginning of ch.4) so I am now able to start the event. Skipped all the main story because I read them during beta. Going to slow down my progress a bit to take in everything steadily. I may also spend some time in the refitting room to stare at the textures and change up the main menu.

You will be swimming in combat report during the early hours. Just upgrade the ones you like imo.

Btw, once you finished 3-5, Hunter Assessment mode opens where you can learn the basics of the combat mechanics. Pretty dumb that it is not available right at the beginning of the game, but the tutorials are pretty well designed.

Alrighty, first impressions:

I played until Chapter 3-5 or so. The last thing I did was setting up some Dispatchs.
Got Sabrina from the beginner banner, so my current team is Sabrina, Nemesis, Sharkry and Ksenia.

First off, the very first impression is a very negative one. I do not understand why games force you through a bunch of story and missions before giving you access to the menu. So I had to play with the German translation (which is very uneven, the VN sections seemed mostly fine, but combat dialog was mostly bad, with often literal "(linebreak here)" notes being left in) and lower graphic settings. Terrible UX.

Since then it's been enjoyable. I'm a bit surprised by how mobile game it feels. Maybe the higher production values made me I think it was a bit more like Hoyo games, but that is not the case. It's story chapters broken into battle stages that require stamina, with some side mission nodes and lots of menus for accessing the various parts of the Elmo (although that one does have a map and I think it's going to become something you can actually move around in in the future). All very mobile game-y.

The story so far has been okay. It still feels a bit like a big prologue, but there has been a decent mix of action, world building, mysteries and character drama. I'm kinda glad I read up on GFL1 though, cause it feels like they don't really ease you into all the concepts of the world or even the basic premise. But maybe that's something they do later or is in some side material I haven't seen yet.

Combat is okay. They have been slowly introducing new gimmicks for the maps, but for the most part I can auto everything, even if the AI is kinda stupid.

Still a lot of stuff left to unlock!

Agree. Chapter 1 to 3 was okay and 4 is really where the story starts to kick into gear. It feels like where the story truly begins to unfold (and I enjoy it a lot!). Nonetheless, I still like (chapter 2 spoiler)the tension between Groza and Colphne. It was a good reminder that how different the commander is from other humans on how they treat dolls in the world. To Colphne the commander and Groza are anomalies.

My biggest complaint of the game is that there is no glossary in-game to look up the terminologies. Already saw a few comments on social media complaining how the story does not 'make sense'. On one hand I like Mica just throw people right into the world, on the other hand they could have made the story more accessible to new players.

Yeah, for sure. Some of it you can get via context, but there's a lot of jargon and new concepts introduced at a pretty fast clip.
It's a difficult balance to get right. Hours of exposition are also boring, but I think they could have done a little more.
