The Last Ninja Collection + Bonus Games

The Last Ninja Collection brings together seven iconic titles for the first time, celebrating the golden era of retro gaming and the preservation of pioneering games from the '80s & '90s. The Last Ninja series is one of the most beloved and successful franchises, known for its innovative gameplay, memorable graphics, atmospheric music and blockbusting reviews.

This collection includes The Last Ninja, Last Ninja 2, Last Ninja 3 and Ninja Remix, alongside critically acclaimed titles like International Karate, IK+ and Bangkok Knights. These games were milestones in the gaming industry, pushing the boundaries of technology and making them available to play on Windows PC.

The original developers of these games were pioneers, experimenting with new technologies and game-play mechanics that would lay the groundworks for today's video game industry. The Last Ninja series sold over 23 million copies across the trilogy, cementing its place as one of the most influential and best-selling titles of the 8-bit computer gaming era.

Last Ninja 2 follows Armakuni's quest for vengeance in modern-day New York against the evil Shogun Kunitoki, featuring atmospheric, isometric environments. Last Ninja 3 received a perfect 100% review score, being the first computer game to achieve this.

International Karate (rebranded as World Championship Karate in the USA) was the first European game to top the USA C64 billboard charts and the first European company (System 3) to achieve this. IK+ is a multi-award-winning retro classic, introducing improved graphics and gameplay with AI. Bangkok Knights was the first fighting game to feature large, distinct characters, inspiring the very first Street Fighter game.

The importance of video game preservation is highlighted – ensuring classic games remain playable and providing valuable resources for researchers and developers. System 3 is proud to have contributed some of the most iconic and influential games on the C64 and Amiga platforms, leaving an indelible mark on the action-adventure genre.

I hate Windows so much and want to get away from it. Just the dang anti-cheat stuff on Linux makes it so hard to finally pull the trigger. Like my most expensive gaming purchase this year was BF6 and I like it, so i kinda don't wanna just toss that out.

How does Linux handle stuff like Denuvo also? Is there any hope in the near future for games like BF6 to work on Linux? (Perhaps via a different proton layer or something?)

tl;dw: Valve is suing one of the Rothschild's for being a patent troll and the lawyers for the Rothschild's was caught using AI that hallucinated legal decisions that did not exist. This happened over 13 times and the lawyer had to file a formal apology.

Nixxes put up a job ad for a lead programmer that is to "lead day to day development work on PC porting". Icon Era is not taking it well.

Let me reiterate how sad and pathetic it is to get angry over more people having the chance to play games you (supposedly) love.
Hoping MLB The Show comes to PC next year. Probably the only way the Braves are getting back to the World Series any time soon.

It's out. It looks fine but Idk why you'd restrict a classic Bubble Bobble game to one theme and not change it up every 5-10 levels or something instead with the candy stuff being just one section and boss etc., it's not like it's such a unique look/style like Kirby's Woolly World, Yoshi's Crafted World, Paper Mario etc...

Bubble Symphony is included!

Worse than Windows, given that each Proton version is treated as a separate computer, so it's really easy to temporarily lock yourself out of the game by just testing which version runs it best.

Stop fucking your fans and start releasing post-launch content as DLCs. Problem solved.
Sega has released a number of critically acclaimed titles in the past couple of years, but despite the positive reception and high praise for their quality, sales performance fell short of expectations.
The company also pointed out that players expecting “definitive editions” of games to be released in the future could be what’s making them hesitant to buy the titles at launch.
While the underperforming titles in question weren’t specified, players in Japan theorize the “definitive edition” problem could likely be linked to games developed by Atlus.

It's so funny how many people demand steam to curate their store better and the moment steam rejects one game from release the exact same people are losing their minds about it

This is what you're fucking asking for you moron, you idiot, you absolute mongrel piece of shit and you got fucking told

Everyone knows at this point that Valve never reconsiders their stance if an app is banned on Steam. You have to remove objectionable material on your first submission. There's no point saying that you're willing to change it after getting denied for release. And in this particular case, the description of what they were talking about changing very easily crosses the line.

That said, I do think that Valve should (and generally does) allow everything barring illegal stuff to release on Steam. And while I also feel bad for individual developers who get denied in their one chance, sometimes for unknown or bewildering reasons, there's a part of me that is glad this happens once every 6 months or so. And it's exactly because of what you said. There are people who keep whining about Steam releasing games they don't like due to it's genre (like porn or gacha), ideological reasons, disliking the monetization, disliking the creators or any other stupid reason. These incidents of Valve banning games are a reminder of exactly what will happen if they start curating games according to their own tastes or preferences. And then those very same people start complaining about how unfair it is for Valve to ban said games while being simply too stupid to connect the dots to realize that this is exactly what would happen if they got their wish.

I always want every game ported, but they should spread out the releases so I can cover said game multiple times instead of in one go or do it in a less busy season lmao. October/November this year were mega busy with so many ports and I appreciate the Yakuza ports being spread out at least haha.

Yea each Proton version change is counted as an activation or something. I ran into issues being blocked from Wild Hearts because of that lol. I've not had issues aside from when I'm testing games for work on multiple devices though with Denuvo barring the shitty online check on first launch.

What's everyone's thoughts on Razer keyboard?

I have a Royal Kludge 61 (brown switches) but I didn't felt good in long term. Went to a friend's house which had this Razer keyboard (plus hand rest) and I was surprised how perfectly it fit in my hands.

“Really easy” is just not true. If you just install and run the game it won’t happen - you have to purposefully try and do it.

1) DRM/Denuvo sucks, but the lock is by and large only for 24 hours before it resets on most games.

2) Valve and/or the community have tested the games so thoroughly that in practice you don’t need to test it yourself.

99% of Linux users will never lock themselves out of a game.

Anti-cheat is an issue on Linux - but Denuvo is no worse on Linux than it is on Windows.

There was a report a few days ago by Alinea Analytics that showed a drop of sales for the later Playstation ports. I think the issue is what you described, Sony was a bit too quick in porting the sequels to its PS4 catalog, no doubt because they wanted to sell them at a higher price, but in doing that they didn't give most players the time to buy these games on sale, play them and develop an appetite for the sequel after a while.

The most telling example is Spider-man. Sony ported three Spider-man games in 2.5 years. Given that most Playstation first party games are broadly similar (third-person cinematic action adventures) and probably target the same audience, Sony should have spaced them out more.

Yea I genuinely don't get what they are doing with the ports. You have nixxes but you still get ports rushed out with no marketing sometimes etc. This isn't 2019 or whatever where a new PC port from Sony would be a huge deal. They basically try and do: rushed port, full price, and no marketing. You can't do all 3 of those and expect anything to come out of it. Word of mouth can carry ports with no marketing, but not when the ports are bad or cost too much etc.

There are too many (quality) games coming out now for many people to return to or care about poor launches / updates. Hopefully they don't mess up with Tokon and whenever Yotei comes. I haven't finished it, but I'm enjoying Yotei a lot more than Tsushima which I played thrice and loved.

I'm enjoying the lamplighters league a lot, despite the many flaws like the terrible controls . The game keeps throwing new classes, enemies and gameplay elements to you and the turn-based combat is excellent.

Yep, terrible controls and poor performance aside, I liked it a lot.

For the first time since 2017 or so I'm might miss the 52 games in a year. There is always a solution. So far today I've finished 5 free 100 hidden games including a lewd one! Up to 49 now.

I have never had a Razer product last even a single year. Mouse or keyboard. I have no idea how the market tolerates their prices when the quality is so low. Razer products (and software, whose various bugs can cause issues with games!) belong alongside the cheap knock-off brands on Amazon.

Sheesh. I guess I'll have to find better keyboards (and hand rests)

Steam Deck 2 with wireless charging case (optional extra battery for mobile charging)?

tgu3XUh.png
That sounds pretty neat. I suppose that would mean it would support general Qi2 charging (the alternative would mean using some propertiery thing that will be more expensive and overall less useful than something standardised). So not super fast, but pretty much ideal for when you are putting the device to rest where it can then charge slowly. I wonder how heavy the case will be, though, since it wil need some special hardware to enable that.

Looks like indie Aero Dancing/AeroWings Dreamcast (and even that series' sequels caved and added and later even focused on the combat flight stuff beyond the acrobatics to entice people more mind). Probably too niche/Japanese and it ain't gonna compete with the big sims on their level but yeah.

Studio trying to market their game with controversy. Getting a bit roasted in comments (but it's not super popular reddits).

It's marketing tactic cos their previous post is "asking" if it's financial suicide to do a PC VR game (that they're doing, clearly just appealing to the niche that plays those to rally and support them whether their product is wortwhile or not just on the principle of it, should have probably gone the PSVR2 route if they want platform fanboy rallies - also it's not even a PC VR first/only game as the Meta Quest version is already released lol, it's just a puzzle box The Room wannabe type game). Anyway, they talk about how much AI VA cost and how much work and man hours they put into it and how it'd be way cheaper but less flexible to just do it with real VA (which obviously also translates to cost to rebook the VA and studio etc. anyway, derp, but it's not like they'd have to do that and constantly iterate on the lines, do that when you have the finalized dialogue). Basically saying no it totally wasn't for cost, AI VA is totally better to work with!!!1 type bs...

Edit: lol they baleeted the post. Should go repost it in AI bro subreddits, then they'll get the applause they were looking for (but none there will buy their game).

I think that's certainly true to some extent.

But what's also true is that the Steam audience, while substantially larger than the Playstation audience, is also far more diverse. In all aspects -- geographically, in terms of expenditure on games, in terms of genre preferences, and so on.

And I think we have to recognize that this audience, even if Sony timed the releases of their cinematic action games perfectly and made sure that the ports are high quality, just would never be as rabid for them as the PS audience. They could certainly do a lot better -- and they are very likely highly profitable even in the current state -- but they just wouldn't be events in the same way they are on PS.

Of course, Sony could instantly outsell all their (SP) releases so far (and probably half of them combined) by just releasing a decent version of Bloodborne.
A cynical observer could think that they don't want to because they don't want to make it too abundantly clear how much more interested the audience is in that game compared to everything their first party studios ever made :P

This is absolutely not true.
I have never locked myself out of a Denuvo game under Windows. I'd have to, you know, do some GPU benches, take out components or try to run game on several machines.
I have locked myself (temporarily, mind you) out of a Denuvo game on my Steam Deck. All it takes is having movie playback or any other issues in the default, Valve chosen Proton version and trying to resolve that by trying the GE versions or any other. It takes, what, 3 tries to do so.
Is this an issue most people will run into? Not necessarily, but it's an issue I've run into a bunch of times.

If you use GE Proton your chances of having this issue (with FMVs) is near enough to zero, given it uses video codecs Valve won’t touch.

I’ve never had an issue with Denuvo temporarily locking me out of a game on my Deck. Given how mature gaming is in the Linux space right now, especially on fixed spec hardware, today you are less likely for that to happen than ever before. And tomorrow it will be even less likely again.

My opinion is generally low of Razer products.

I can say I have had a very basic Razer mouse for many years now, but it has no interesting features and I'm sure a basic plastic mouse from Monprice would be equally good.

There are a lot of amazing ergonomic keyboards out there, up and down the price spectrum. And you can go full sicko mode and even build your own if you want. Shop around in that space and I'm sure you can find a similar product from a better brand.

These constant headlines about GPUs becoming untenably priced next year finally made me crack. Picked up an INNO3D 5080 3xOC, when it arrives tommorow I'll have to pick up a new PSU at the store as well when I have them install everything.

You win this round, Jensen Huang... 🥲

I didnt even want to buy a new GPU, but I also didnt want to potentially wait years to upgrade if the prices really spiral out of control.

After giving it some thought, I realized that the last GPU I bought was also purchased under duress, lol. I bought my old 3080 in 2020 because I read all the headlines about COVID pushing card prices out of control lol.

Successor to Warlander.

I don't play mobas etc. but these look like something from Japan arcades when trying online/team/fps/shooter etc. games like Border Break (not 100 players).

Im going to send the bill for a new keyboard to Li Kao because his test ignited the desire for me to get a new one!
Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the delivery of mine today. A cheapo membrane keyboard, SteelSeries Apex 3 I think.
I'm not opposed to splurge on on a mecha but it transformed into a rabbit hole and money drain I didn't need right now.

Better buy TTRPGs I won't be able to play because I have no friends ! I'm a stable genius.
