Hey its ya boy SonicShillxX999 back at it with some sick platformer recommendations that are inspired by sonic but still manage to feel like their own original thing.

This games pretty rad and the ost slaps. The creator used to make insanely good Sonic fangames that felt like official sega made titles. Pretty cool mix of Sonic and Kirby gameplay. All time low as well.

Its a short 2-3 hour game but theres multiple characters and modes for replays. Definitely recommended for anyone who likes Sonic.

Also sort of similar to Sonic but not really. 3 seperate characters with their own story modes and levels, Each character feels completely different to play. This is one of my absolute favorites of 2014. The sequel is one of my most anticipated games by far.

Story is a bit cringe at times though, but theres an adventure mode that cuts the story and just has you play through all the levels without the cutscenes. Absolute recommend at any price.

Someone over on ERA reminded me of this game which I would recommend. Its a nice simplistic relaxing transport game where you just plonk down stations for trains to run back and forth. Its a pretty nice game to just chill for a few hours (although it can get hectic as you get further into a level). Worth a few quid.

A super well written RPG. If you liked New Vegas' quirkier quests, WoL will probably go down really well. Behind the simple aesthetic, there's a lot of character, wit and charm. If you like your RPGs to present you with fun choices first and foremost, give this one a shot.

If you've already played it, the game recently got new content added to it. It's pretty cheap (€4 over here). If you don't have the base game, you can get both in a bundle that comes out cheaper than getting them separately.

Whats going on treble clefs, its your maestro ConductingXCrescendo here with a symphony of game recommendations that use music in unique and cool ways.. I actually wrote up this up before, but accidentally erased it with some shitty keybind. After screaming (in G Major) and taking 10 minutes to cool off, im writing it again. (god help me)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First up is LUMINES REMASTERED, A puzzle game that uses its soundtracks BPM to control the speed and difficulty of the game. In Lumines, you're given 2x2 squares you have to drop on the grid board as a beat line crosses the board over and over again to the tempo of the music But the twist is, The squares are made out of 2 different colors!!!! (holy shit!!!) The objective of the game is to connect 4 or more squares of the same color, when the beat line crosses it. It clears them and gives you points. If you clear enough in 1 crossing, It gives you a combo for the next crossing, So you need to make large quantities of clearable squares every time. If the beat line crosses and you don't have enough squares, you lose your combo.

The main gamemode is Endurance. Which is where you play through the games entire soundtrack in order in 1 big game of Lumines, But every song changes the speed of the beat line and the look of the stage. Every time you reach a new song, You can play it in any other mode, So if you want to play banger SHININ' on loop for 2 hours straight in a single game, You can. (ive done it multiple times!) Its a really chill puzzle game you can play for 5 minutes or 5 hours easily and completely lose yourself in a trance doing so. (Just make sure you dont do that by accident).

I also HIGHLY recommend using a controller. The game uses the rumble feature in a really unique way, and it feels super weird but also super cool . But if you dont have a controller thats cool too. The game plays wonderfully with a keyboard and you can actually play with 1 hand. So you can use the other hand to... Spin your fidget spinner (are those still a thing?) I guess? I dont know your life so do what you want with that hand.

Its currently at an all time low at 50% off and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves puzzle games (like tetris) and slappin' music.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next up, is Rez Infinite. A remaster + expansion(?) of the critically acclaimed Dreamcast game by SEGA. Created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, who went onto create Lumines (callback epic style) and last years Tetris Effect (wheres my PC port tho Tetsuya?).

Rez is a pretty simple on-rails action shooter where you point at weird shapes while rad music and visuals explode in your face. Its short and sweet and isnt really heavy on the gameplay. But its a acid trip of an experience. But this isnt your daddy's Rez. This is Rez INFINITE. Infinite includes 2 big new changes from the original. VR support, and a brand spankin new level powered by Unreal Engine 4 called Area X. Its a gorgeous spectacle of particles and fantastic chill music. But unlike the base game, Area X allows you to fully control your character. Gone are the on rails restrictions and now you're welcomed into Rez's full potential as an explosive action game. Dodge weird shapes, blow up those shapes, and get extreme eye strain from how gorgeous the particle effects are. Its a taste of what a full fledged Rez 2 could be like (please, give it to me) and I recommend saving it for last, because it completely blows the rest of the game out of the water.

Rez Infinite is 50% off, an all time low I believe, and fellow MetaMember Durante and his team did QA consulting on the PC port according to his wesbite! So thats pretty rad too!!! Pick it up if you like cool visual spectacles and on rail shooters.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moving onto the next verse, We have Just Shapes & Beats. A "musical bullet hell game with coop" (think sounddodger).

Its a game about moving a little shape around the map while obstacles fly on screen to the beat. Its pretty straight forward, and playable both online and locally with friends and strangers (the online part, I dont recommend inviting strangers to your house to play games). It has a cute story mode you can use to unlock songs to play in freemode, but all the songs are available on Online multiplayer by default. Online also has several unlockable songs you achieve by gaining enough points which you earn for surviving and completing challenges.

The discount is pretty low, but it rarely goes on sale and is absolutely worth it at the price. But I guess you might want to wait for Humble Monthly because anything can happen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey so I was planning on including 5 games in this list, But after losing my last write up im kind of exhausted. So ill probably update this with the other recommendations and more detail to the Just Shapes & Beats write up tomorrow or something but for now please enjoy my suffering. I hope you see something you like zZzZzZz.......

Wanna play a Harry Potter simulation with my personal soundtrack of the year in 2017? Play this.

Great metroidvania with hand-drawn art and random encounter mechanic.

The game that got me into "Dwarf Fortress" sims like Rimworld.

Don't know if I listed this already. Don't care. DBZ meets Avatar: The Last Airbender in an African fantasy setting. I'll paypal anyone $25 USD if they can find me another Afro-fantasy video game.

Speaking of Afro-fantasy, this one is Brazilian-based. Some of yall might feel some sort of way about Raw Fury though.

Though there's a sequel, the original is better. Trust me. This game is the best "clone" of Metal Slug I've played yet. Great art, and familiar (stereotypical) humor.

Turn-based strategy with great cyberpunk aesthetic. Brought to you by the same folks who brought you the best ninja simulator this side of Tenchu and Sekiro

My 2018 GOTY runner-up

My 2018 GOTY

My favorite strategy game of all time, modernized

And it's prequel

My 2018 GOTY third place, and the best modern shooter I've played.

If you like anti-grav racers, this is the best between the visuals of WipEout and speed of Redout.

Speaking of Redout, if you like, break-neck, sink-your-eyes-into-your-sockets speed, this is it.

Save 83% on Redout - Deluxe Edition on Steam

A fun diesepunk shooter with fantastic soundtrack.

Ok, I'm done.

Alright, last day suggestions. All of these are under $10 and mostly small games that don't get brought up much. And yes, I rounded the prices because I wanted to. Some have already been mentioned here but doesn't hurt to get suggested again:

1. One Night Stand - $2 (33%) - Basic VN using rotoscoping and tells a very short, simple story in about 15 minutes. Replay to see all the different paths and how things can go after a one night stand.

2. Emily is Away Too - $1 (80%) - For anyone raised up using AOL Instant Messenger this is a must. This is the second game, play the free Emily is Away first.

3. Any Zachtronics game - $2.50-$15 (25-75%) - Programming games and everyone knows them. Buy another. Love them.

4. Human Resource Machine - $7.50 (50%) - Another programming game from The Tomorrow Corporation (think World of Goo). Simpler in that it's all done with drag-and-drop commands but gets devious.

5. El Tango de la Muerte - $3.50 (30%) - Music/rhythm game I always recommend. I just love the music which helps carry the gameplay and the fun story. If you like Spanish guitar and tango music take a look.

6. Engare - $3.50 (50%) - Peaceful little puzzle game thing. It's essentially Spirograph the game.

7. Escape Goat 2 - $4 (60%) - Most people have seen this around enough. It's a fantastic single-screen puzzle platformer.

8. Expand - $1.50 (75%) - Kind of like if Super Hexagon was a maze sort of thing? Has fantastic music and some nice tense feeling moments.

9. The Fall - $2 (80%) - This is just the first episode. I haven't played the second one yet but the story in the first was told well with decent gameplay that was mostly adventure game with some light combat.

10. Gorogoa - $7.50 (50%) - Hand-drawn puzzle game that has you stepping in and out of art and moving panels around to make them interact together.

11. Cypher - $2 (60%) - I already suggested this earlier in the thread. Learn cryptography. It's barely even a game, honestly, but it's incredibly engaging.

12. Nirvana Pilot Yume - $0.70 (90%) - VN with an interesting sci-fi story that's interspersed with bizarre Skyroads racing sections. I got strangely hooked into it. The art is kind of fun, too.

13. Pinkman - $0.75 (25%) - Essentially a cheap N++ style game with far fewer levels but is decent fun.

14. Quarantine Circular - $4.80 (20%) - From Bithell Games of Thomas Was Alone (which I didn't care for) is what is essentially a VN style game with some light puzzle elements but mostly discussions and making choices. Much better than I expected.

15. Spectrum Break - $5.40 (40%) - Ugly level-based platform game. You have floaty, crazy inertia and you're a little stick figure person that kind of snowboards across geometric shapes with physics making everything fly about. The goal is to have every shape in each level get touched (by you or another shape that gets pushed). Way too much fun if you can get past the basic graphics.

16. Super Skelemania - $3 (40%) - Gato Robato got attention this year but this is the better bite-sized Metroidvania option.

17. Tametsi - $1.50 (50%) - Do you like Minesweeper or Hexcells? Get this. Be ready to get furious with how tough it gets.

18. THOTH - $1 (80%) - Dual joystick shooter with a load of short levels that get creative and challenging.

19. Circa Infinity - $2 (75%) - A platformer thing that has you rotating around a circular field going in and out of planes (2D planes, not planes that fly).

20. Fidel Dungeon Rescue - $5 (50%) - Cute rogue-like thing where you go through grid-based levels but you can't cross over a spot you already landed on previously. You play as a dog.

21. Ghosts of Miami - $6 (60%) - Saturday morning cartoon looking VN that's darker than the visuals would allude to. I really liked the style and the writing from what I've played (around 1/4 of it).

22. Golf Peaks - $3.33 (33%) - Maybe too simple of a puzzle game. Get set "cards" to use to get the golf ball to the hole while navigating the terrain and hazards.

23. Kalimba - $2.50 (75%) - A game from Xbox Game Studios but unknown or ignored by most people. Platformer where you're two characters stacked and you flip them as well as jump independently to navigate the levels. Quite fun!

24. Killer is Dead - $4 (80%) - A Suda game and definitely not some small indie title. Most people don't give this a fair chance but I was way into what I've played.

25. Linelight - $3 (70%) - Puzzle navigation game. You can only travel alone the give lines and must time movement around enemies and get keys and switches to continue. Simple but gets tough. Lots of secret stuff to find.

26. Monolith - $4 (50%) - Rogue-like twin-stick shooter. Go room-to-room and find random stuff before fighting a boss and getting deeper. Great feeling game.

27. NEO NEO - $0.50 (51%) - Super short burst arcade game that's like Downwell but you go up. You die quickly so your first runs will be mere seconds and your best runs will be 30+ seconds. Once you get the rhythm down it gets its hooks in you.

28. OmniBus - $2.50 (75%) - Dumb, fun game where you're a bus that constantly accelerates and gets out of control. Charming, ugly graphics but fun to play.

29. Pato Box - $7.50 (50%) - Just another black-and-white Punch Out-like game where you play as a boxer with the head of a duck. If you haven't played too many of them this is the next one to get.

30. Pharaoh Rebirth+ - $3 (70%) - This gets mentioned often enough but just another vote to get it. A great Metroidvania game that shares some Order of Ecclesia that each map is separate from one another but you can return to them with later abilities.

31. Recursed - $2.70 (66%) - I'm not great at this game but I appreciate what a mindfuck it is. If you think you're great at logical puzzle games this is for you.

32. Roundabout - $2 (80%) - I feel this belongs with OmniBus. You're a limo that's constantly spinning around its center axis with FMV cutscenes. It's ridiculous and everyone should own it.

32. Sethian - $5 (no discount, don't care) - Added without a discount because not enough people play this. You must learn an alien language to communicate with an AI. It's more about learning the syntax than figuring out all the words and it's not as simple as A = Z, B = Y, C = X sort of thing.

33. Snakebird - $3.50 (50%) - Popular puzzle game but one everyone should have to scream at. Deceptive in cuteness compared to how must you'll be angry at how tough a simple looking screen is.

34. Song of the Deep - $3.75 (75%) - I know this isn't as well regarded as many other Metroidvanias but I'd say Gato Robato took similar gameplay ideas from this one and I think this was simply more interesting for it.

35. Wuppo - $3 (80%) - And lastly another Metroidvania that I put off because of the art but it's actually super solid and full of whimsy.

I'll leave a few suggestions of my own:

We Need to Go Deeper - Multicrew (or solo with bots) submarine adventure, Really nice looking, leaves Early Access on August 1st (and the price will also increase then). USD 6.49 during the sale (35% off)

The Blackout Club - Multiplayer immersive sim, you stealth around a town taken over by some cult, there's a thing that pursues you from time to time when you fuck up your stealth and you can only see it with your eyes closed. Leaving Early Access on July 30th, price will also increase then.

ok they are not discounted so i guess they don't have a place here but I will still recommend them, maybe someone has coupons to burn:
they are not long but great so if you have them or buy them, play them and don't make the mistake of forgetting about them
