90/10 has got to be about what stores like GMG and Humble offer for Steam keys to devs right? That is interesting. If Discord doesn't moneyhat exclusivity I will gladly support a real competitor to Steam, but they already have a track record of doing that so not holding my breath.
I don't think so. The Humble Widget offers 95%, but that offers no visibility and is basically a payment processor and key delivery service for developers to sell games on their own site. I believe Humble Store is 75%, but I'm almost positive that Green Man Gaming typically takes 30%. They often offer 27% discounts on preorders so it's likely they're just giving up almost all of their cut in those cases.

That's why the 70/30 split going away could be bad for consumers, if 90/10 were the standard that discount would likely drop to 7%. For me if that happened I'd be buying fewer games at launch and waiting until they're 50% some time off after release. It would also put an end to the 10% off for Monthly subscribers on the Humble Store.

I could have sworn Steam made some marketplace changes so that you would no longer have to confirm (via the Steam mobile app) putting stuff up on the marketplace if it was lower than some value they had set. I think I may have put something on the marketplace without confirmation 1 and 1./2 to 2 weeks ago. My memory is fuzzy so I can't remember. It's back now?

Even as someone who uses discord every day, I can't see myself supporting that store either. Despite being a Nitro subscriber I can't even find the Discord store in my client lol.

Also following their twitter threads on this news, they don't seem to keen on adding Achievements but mentioned wanting to implement reviews and a Steam workshop like thingy. Otherwise they just keep pointing everyone towards a link: Game Store & Nitro – Discord

And saying "Vote for what you want here and we'll look at it." lol. I guess it's good they stopped curating, though it seems they still won't allow NSFW stuff and other things.

I was just at a local game developer meeting, and the topic for today was primarily looking back at 2018, and the projects/achievements in it. There were a lot of small presentations (by the way, among others, the developers of Bridge Constructor Portal and the developers of Bus Simulator 18 were there), and it was really interesting (I also gave a talk "mod it till you make it" :p).

But anyway, what I wanted to note is that it feels like every other talk referred to Steam reviews and the detailed review timeline tools in order to explain or illustrate what went well or what didn't. I certainly didn't get the impression that people don't want those reviews (or the tools to understand them better)!

After finishing Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes earlier, I gave Blue Shift a try. It's the only expansion for Half-Life I didn't play when it was new, so there was a mix between excitement and nervousness. It's almost 20 years old and obviously, some parts wouldn't hold up.

First big surprise, I was done with it in one sitting. Wow, I knew it was a short expansion but not even 3 hours. Wouldn't really matter though, if the content on offer was of a great quality. And this is where the real problems start. Blue Shift isn't really good. Not only compared to the base game - arguably one of the most important FPS - but just as a basic game, too.

Levels are, for the most part, pretty bland, uninteresting and unremarkable. My brief journey only reminded me of the original that much more and how palpable and real the Black Mesa research facility felt at the end of the adventure. Comparably, Blue Shift's linear trot is jumbled and rushed. No highs or lows, just a dead pulse.

Enemy variety is laughable as there are zero new enemies and a heavily skewed encounter rate with marines. Getting slightly updated weapon models is a nice touch but things could have been so much more. Just take a look at the excellent Opposing Force expansion with its great roster of new enemies, weapons and even squad gameplay tactics.

At least, now I know that I didn't really miss out on much back in the day and honestly, I'd recommend the original Half-Life and Opposing Force heartily while easily advising to save your time with Blue Shift.

Yeah is weird because a lot of small devs say that the wishlist and page hits metric is super useful for them to measure campaing imprints and the like but then you have all this other devs singing the Epic song.

Anyone has a coupon for Book of Demons they don't plan to use? The demo was fun when I played it way back when, but it never felt like a game I'd buy for the EA price of the release price. For 5/6€ though I'd snatch it to play around with it.

In other news, GRIS met and exceeded my expectations. I didn't complete it yet, putting just 2 hours into it (the game is short tho from what I've heard) but everything I've experienced so far was pretty great. Art direction and sound direction intertwine perfectly giving birth to a visual and aural orgasm. Unlocking a color always paints the world in new tones and despite there being no direct storytelling or text in the game, it has so far communicated me so many emotions.

The sense of wonderment I get as I keep pushing forward in the game is something I haven't been feeling for a long while.
The best purchase of the year for me, beating even my Diablo 3 purchase for the Switch.
It's not a game for everyone, but it pushes all my buttons and tickles me in all the right spots.

I have a Book of Demon coupon. Tried to send it as a trade offer, but it wouldn't let me. If you can, send me a trade offer for it and I'll gladly give it to you.

i believe there's a limit to that ... either value or quantity ... after which you have to confirm them again

but, but, but ... but the Polygon article ...

Which is a big reason why I’m here.
:wd_heart:

gaming websites, even gaming podcasts that I usually enjoy are all out there spouting uninformed nonsense.:sick::sick:
yeah, it always makes me wonder .... like obviously we know it's uninformed because we know A LOT about steam and how it works .... so it makes me wonder - do they usually say stuff THIS misinformed about other things as well?

Considering most pc era people are here it proves our point that we aren't the ones causing problems either
that's because Derrick01 barely posts in here ;)

If you live in US:

https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/341869/project-stream-participants-to-get-free-pc-copy-of-assassins-creed-odyssey

Play Assassin's Creed Odyssey for 1 hour via Project Stream and get full version on uPlay. Seems like a good deal.
Is it unlockable with a VPN?

Also, I guess Project Stream is some cloud gaming offer. I have been playing a few games with Shadow this month (thanks to a deep discount on Black Friday) and it works wonderfully, much much better than I ever thought cloud gaming could work. It really feels like the game is running locally.

it certainly looks like it could be related to xbox crossplay. I can't think anything else at least.
oooooh, exciting! :D

although, if so, then what was that entire deal with Killer Instinct then? wasn't that supposed to be a test of MS doing crossplay stuff on their own or something?

haven't really looked into KI multiplayer on steam ... maybe you can't play with your friends or something? so maybe this will be full integration? who knows ... would be cool, that's for sure :)
Yeah I have no idea how KI works. Could be it doesn't even use Steam's multiplayer at all?

But I think it has some limits to multiplayer between win10/xbox and steam.

Obviously getting ready to bring Halo Master Chief Collection + Crossplay to PC
i wish!

Yeah I have no idea how KI works. Could be it doesn't even use Steam's multiplayer at all?
honestly - no idea ... i wouldn't be surprised ... i think it was just supposed to be their non-UWP API thingy to make crossplay possible or something like that

But I think it has some limits to multiplayer between win10/xbox and steam.
yeah, probably ... haven't really checked, i don't play fighting games in multi :p

How many missions in total are there in Dusk and how long does it take to beat the full game?

I like that the game lets you get a SUPER Shotgun right off the bat, feels much better than traditional shotgun.

Yeah, I never owned Xbox console and would like to continue the series, maybe some day :)

I still have Halo 1 and 2 physical boxes on PC. Maybe it's time to replay those and hope for the best.
Halo 1 has mods that will run it at 60fps with fixes and all that stuff, I finished it recently (never finished it on xbox actually even though I bought it day 1 lol), highly recommend it. I didn't like Halo 2 so it'll be left unfinished, 3 was good on the 360. Never played Halo after 3 because my 360 RRoD on me and I thought fuck them and went with the ps3.

What if Microsoft is just finishing buying out Valve, and those strings in newest beta are a result of that?
