It has way too few modes for a Tetris game and I don't like Puyo Puyo, so I'm fine with this. It's still worth it for regular Tetris, but as a whole it feels a bit lacking to me.

Did everyone see the State of PC Gaming in 2018 that Kotaku put out last week?

It's not quite as silly as I found the PS4 one, but it's still pretty eye-rolling.

I'm not sure why this in particular made me realize it, but in "regular" news, it's pretty obvious where 90%+ of "fake news" and opinionated trash comes from (*cough* Fox *cough*) , but with games journalism every single site seems to put out poorly sourced or unsourced, biased opinion pieces that get posted as news or coverage somehow. Kotaku is at least semi-known as pushing a lot of junk articles out but they do have some good ones too, I wish they'd curb the bad tendencies.

I take it all back, Subnautica not in top 5 GOTY and AMPLITUDE not in best developer, Steam really is the worst, clearly.

Kotaku is at least semi-known as pushing a lot of junk articles out but they do have some good ones too, I wish they'd curb the bad tendencies.

It's a shame because with Kotaku, you've got good investigative stuff from Schreier, but then also a fair load of garbage clickbait. Same with other outlets like Polygon. You'll get some really good retrospective/investigative stuff on occasion like that "Final Fantasy 7 Oral History" from a year or two ago, but you'll also get absolute dreck like Kuchera's corporate apologism and Tim Colwill's absolute joke "articles" about Steam/Valve.

I wish all of them would try to keep a higher standard, but the clickbait sells I guess. Not everyone can afford to have measured investigative coverage like NYT, or focused subject writing like The Athletic, or tight documentary creation like Danny O'Dwyer, or get to cover whatever they want and ignore popular games like Giant Bomb.

Maybe someday we'll get there, but obviously not yet.

Regarding the Geneshift topic - the Dev posted about it on reddit, and it took off. I actually think those might be mostly legit users, apparently they hug-of-death'd the game servers at least once too

Dev is definitely active on reddit. /r/pcmasterrace from what I recall -- he did giveaways of Geneshift on there when asking for feedback/ideas/suggestions.

I meant today specifically but yea, I've seen them post cool gifs before and drum up support.

I'm hoping to pick up some VR games this sale to try out with my PSVR. I'm looking for proper traditional games that have VR support, and not "VR-experiences" or multiplayer/party games that are popular with VR enthusiasts.

On that note yesterday I noticed BallisticNG is out of early access and supports VR so I played around with that a bit. I remember first seeing it a while ago, probably on GAF. It's a Wipeout clone in the style of the PS1 games and so far it seems really good and does exactly what it sets out to accomplish. VR vice I'm more impressed with the demo of Wipeout on PS4 because of the fancy graphics, but this was significantly cheaper and has good mod support.

I also tried playing Subnautica in VR until I got too nauseous and had to quit.

I don't really miss the flash deals, and I doubt they're coming back (thankfully). All they ever did was force us to wait until the very end of the sale to buy things, to ensure they didn't show up in some ridiculous 6/8 window, or 12/24 later on, instead of being able to just day 1 checkout and enjoy my Christmas spoils without experiencing some level of buyers' remorse.
