The perfect example of this is PS5. Now that I have a proper nice gaming PC, I'm conflicted for the first time ever on my need for consoles. Those first party exclusives though........Fuck me dead they make it a hard decision.
I was on the same boat last generation, and decided to skip consoles for the first time. I didn't get an Xbox One, a PS4, or a Switch (or Wii U before that).
Yes, some first party games are very enticing, but then I look at my backlog, and I think "when will I get to play them"?
In a way, it's the same with VR. The hardware is costly, and I think "does it make sense to spend a few hundred €, in order to play a few games, when I have entire series of games I already own, and never played"?
You reach a certain point where you see yourself playing games for 10-15 years more, I quickly calculate the amount of games I play each year, and I realize I'll never play many of games I already own.
I'm yet to play, despite owning it: Prey, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Dishonored 2, The Witcher 2, The Witcher 3, Devil May Cry 5, the remake of Resident Evil 2, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the whole Metro trilogy, both games in the The Evil Within series, Life Is Strange: Before The Storm, and Life Is Strange 2, just to give a few quick examples.
My backlog is embarrassing.
I'm sure the hardware will be great, and first party games (especially Microsoft's, because they recently bought some teams I really like) will be awesome, but I have some cool stuff to play, maybe as good (or even better) than many of the stuff coming in the near future, I think it's time to tackle a few of them.
