That is the shittiest hot take I’ve read in quite a while.
They are too deep in capitalism hole.Americans trying to tell me paying more for less is somehow good for me never gets old.
Derrick01 broke this guy, it seems.

OHHH that's the deranged guy from Lash's server? Haha now I understand everything.Derrick01 broke this guy, it seems.
Yup, Exodus is a prime example of this and of course people discussing in good faith never fail to mention it when talking about the pros of EGS. US and UK people saved a whole $10 back then after allBe patient. Have faith. It will trickle down eventually.
\Fortnite's astronomical success has made Epic into gaming's Willy Wonka. They have the banked finance - not some venture capital-based bullshit - to give what amounts to a golden ticket to anyone who wants to work with them. They have the money, and they have the audience.
But Toxic Gamers™, amirite?A lot of posts like this

Now I "demand" even more details.
Just a very stable individual who has a little too much trouble processing opinions that contradict his own. You either agree with him or are a fucking waste of air who deserves to die (paraphrasing here). Now I "demand" even more details.
Going a bit off topic, I noticed that the 'epic literally god because free games' circlejerk is getting huge in almost every forum. In a bunch of places if you dare to not agree with the 'steam is so bad thanks epic for going out of their way and being such a godsent' comments you will be downvoted to hell / bombarded with angry answers. But of course they are too blind to see it and insist that the only circlejerk is against poor egs.
Now that Borderlands 3 didn't set the PC world on fire, we will start to see a lot more attack on Steam, and a harsher defence of EGS, Some people will not admit on being wrong, and some people are simply afraid that Epic "generosity" will run out.
/r/GamingCirclejerk became this pretty fast. So many of them lack any self awareness. They made fun of the circlejerk around Epic so hard that they became their own circlejerk.Going a bit off topic, I noticed that the 'epic literally god because free games' circlejerk is getting huge in almost every forum. I also believe Epic will continue with free games next year. It's much cheaper and more effective than a classic marketing campaign.
I don't understand how free games align anyways with what Sergey talked about re: game devaluation.
Why would someone buy a promising game like say, Celeste, at launch if they can wait a few months to get it cheap via a Steam sale or free from EGS?
Also why buy a new indie game when you have 50 free ones in your library to play?I don't understand how free games align anyways with what Sergey talked about re: game devaluation.

I can see them extending for 2020, 100%. Honestly I don't think that they will stop giving free games until they have a certain number of returning clients. Even if they slow down to one game per month.Free Games brigade is maybe a 2 edge knife, what will happen when EGS stop giving free stuff? They said they will give free games for the entirity of 2019, maybe they will extend into 2020, if not, they will have a huge problem.
It doesn't. Almost every thread regarding Celeste for free on Reddit had a couple comments echoing the feeling that with Humble monthlies and now Epic giving away games like this is pretty much a 'risk' buying indie games day one unless you want to support the devs.I don't understand how free games align anyways with what Sergey talked about re: game devaluation.

I hope so. Humble and subscription services put enough pressure on indies devs to 'hand' their games and for people to not buy games day-1 or without a sale. It'll take a while, but I think devs are eventually going to become wary of giving away their games for free from the EGS when their newer releases start selling less because there is the expectation that eventually they'll be given away for free, so why bother buying them now?
I enjoyed that place before too, but nah, it's not worth my time anymore. I'm almost doing the same with /r/gamedeals./r/GamingCirclejerk became this pretty fast. So many of them lack any self awareness. They made fun of the circlejerk around Epic so hard that they became their own circlejerk.
I like the subreddit, and the unjerk threads are a pretty nice place for discussion. But if you say anything bad about epic you get downvoted 100 times with 0 replies. VALVE BAD EPIC GOOD 88/12
That too. Also why buy a new indie game when you have 50 free ones in your library to play?
Who the hell are all these people that follow random RPS writers on Twitter anyways?Somehow that Ian (who?) drivel reached other discord servers I visit (this one was a damn VR related server).

That's, umm, quite an opinion alright. Not particularly good or smart, or even a coherent one, but an opinion indeed.
"The only bad thing about EGS is that it's almost too good."
OHHH that's the deranged guy from Lash's server? Haha now I understand everything.
Derrick01 I still believe you are a saint for not replying to his insults. Sadly several folks there threw you under the bus.

To be fair. Most "forums" have a certain agenda.
When the "BL3 is uploading 2mb/s" thing came up on r/fuckepic I suggested that we knew nothing. It could've been anything and that it would be better to wait for confirmation that it's DRM related.
I got downvoted to hell, for being a tiny bit reasonable. People laughed at me, nobody wanted to think. Idiots are idiots, it doesn't matter what "side" they're on.
I'm also pretty certain, some people are calling this place "Steam good, Epic bad". And that's also true. We gathered here for many reason, but one of it is: We don't like epic that much. That's at least mostly the "agenda" of the people in this thread.
Look, all I'm saying is: People gather around campfires that suit them. If you aren't welcome somewhere chances are you'll search shelter somewhere else. This leads to forums building circle-jerk like structures. Many people having the same "ideas" doesn't mean that those ideas are good though.

Journalists apparently care a lot about the health of the industry, but not enough to buy their own copies. To the point where they cry on Twitter if they aren't gifted review copies.Eh it is what it is. I know people either tolerate me or hate me by now, it doesn't bother me lol.
As for the journo's tantrum that didn't bother me so much as surprise me since everything was pretty calm and he turned it to 11 immediately. I found it pretty funny. What did bother me was earlier (than the fuck your mom parts) I explained to him that I don't like EGS because they ruin discounts on most sites and that I'm on a fixed income so the 20%+ deals we find often are important to me to buy the amount of games that I do.
He literally laughed at me and mocked that being my reason. Journalists who get a lot of keys for free from publishers don't understand these kinds of things about PC gaming and how important they are. The amount of games I buy, especially on day 1, would probably be cut by at least 40% a year if I had to pay full price for everything.
I wouldn't mind things like reviewers whining about their missing review copies IF they made an effort to stay informed about what's happening on the consumer side.Journalists apparently care a lot about the health of the industry, but not enough to buy their own copies. To the point where they cry on Twitter if they aren't gifted review copies.
But we're the entitled ones.
I do get review keys for games (used to review Sega games, so Total War, Football Manager... expensive games, all for free, even got collector editions with shirts and goodies...), but I thought about it a lot recently.
I know that it never stopped me to give meh or bad reviews, but you can't know how it affects your judgement. I still do (writing about Nauticrawl with a review key right now), but... I'm thinking about not doing it anymore. Just to be totally free of judgement. Being as honest as possible.
Don't want to be accused of being partial. I can be wrong, I can be the only one to like a game everyone hates, but I can't be the one who gives a good review because he got stuff from devs / editor, or worse : I can't be the one that gives good reviews to please an editor / dev so I can get more review keys after that.
Fuck Doritos.
