If it weren't for Epic Games Store, Fallen Order would've been a Steam-exclusive. THANK YOU TIM!

Also, why is it that he will only take indie games if they are EGS-exclusive but he's fine with taking the AAA scraps?
Halo & gears 5 got denied unless they'd skip Steam, so not every aaa is safe either.

More seriously, seems like by virtue of being good at all (and an EA SW game at that!), Fallen Order is making a nice splash.

Meanwhile it's still top seller on Steam.
And no doubt many people are playing it on Origin with the Origin Access Premium subscription. Let's hope Tim starts to realize that moneyhats won't give him our loyalty for non-exclusive games.

Appearance. Can't be seen to be missing out when a big game chooses not to go to them exclusively.
This.
There was so much buzz about EA publishing a game on Steam. Tim wanted a place in the headlines as well, also Steam getting the spotlight treatment must have rubbed him of badly.
Didn't work out well with the first round though, barely anybody cared that it's on EGS. But you'll see him bragging about the game selling well on Steam, Origin AND Epic if EA releases something positive about their sale numbers.

Personally, I don't care. People have three launcher options to get the game, can even rent it for 15€. In the future even from Steam and Origin. Fine with me.

I do love how Tim pretends to care about a multi-store future, when he continues to limit where games can be sold. I'm not even talking about Steam. GOG, Humble (non-DRM), or Itch get left out when he comes stomping along with his money bags.
It's textbook gaslighting. Pretending to be the good guy, shouting out loud about things consumers care about, while doing the exact opposite. He can go step on a Lego.

It's not a terrible article but it still pushes misconceptions and things that are parroted without critical thinking. Case in point :

Which is a rephrasing of "Steam is filled with asset flips". Between the discoverability tools and Steam's own algorithm, I never stumbled on those. The fact of the matter is that Steam has a massive library and that finding stuff in there is always going to be a challenge whereas Epic has the luxury of being a new marketplace, benefiting from the gold rush of both exposure, lack of competition for sales on the store and the moneyhats themselves.

At the end of the day, as we all know, those things are temporary and if the EGS had to live or die on its own merits, it'd have been under last month.

The article also doesn't address the elephant in the room that is the toxicity of exclusivity tactics for third parties on PC.
Also, I thought what he said about Death's Stranding weak, especially considering that a much more readily-usable example, RDR2, has only a month head-start on EGS before it launches on Steam.
Because passing support to those unfamiliar with the codebase always goes well!
Please do not make me re-live what happened to the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise, specifically, Heroes V and what Ubisoft did to NIval.
I'm on a media blackout on shenmue 3 until it comes to steam.XD Still nr 1 on my steam wishlist.
That Embargo is HILARIOUS!

It’s amusing to see the same press that praised EGS to high heavens now get on Google’s case for launching a bare bones service. Suddenly family sharing, achievements, controller support, etc. are important features that should make you think twice before investing in the platform. Uh huh. Ok.

I can confirm that Fallen Order is quite good but also shut up Tim, says a lot about your “multi store dream” that you forgot GOG even exists.

Anything Epic announces at the Game Awards will be overshadowed by Half-Life: Alyx anyways. Good.
Eeeeh....i hope so....

I'd wager that between Google's focus on AAA games as well as the absence of brib- I mean, financial incentives for fair, honest, competitive advantages, they aren't going to get them the same darling status in certain social circles.

Still, it's interesting that it's not just another icon to click on the desktop for the gaming media, even though it technically is!

If the argument that EGS is just another icon outweighs all else, and store exclusivity doesn’t matter since it’s still on a PC, the Stadia is almost inconsequentially cheap compared to equivalent (refresh spec) consoles, so really we should overlook all these issues because it’s such a low barrier of entry.

I'm overly excited for the upcoming Half-Life:Alyx announcement. And I understand that I'm probably too excited and that not everybody is.
But can you imagine the look on Tims face today. Reading about a new Half Life game, not just exclusive to steam but also exclusive to hardware that needs steam to run. His own launcher needs steam to run VR games after all.

Fallen Order isn't even in the best selling top 20 on EGS, so I guess they shouldn't have bothered. ;)
I really wonder what numbers the top sellers have there considering indie stuff like Outer Wilds and shit stuff like Rune 2 are so high in the list (yet no SW!). Even preorders of presumably relatively niche (at least until some huge media blowout/actual release with hype over its quality) games like MechWarrior 5 are on it...

Wouldn't suprise me if their "backend" for determining that stuff is not ready and they're populating it with a random number generator (or by hand) ¯\(ツ)

Or they sell so little that every single copy can upset the entire ranking.

Plus the Stadia is aimed at being technically free over time right? Right now people are basically just paying for a Chromecast - and existing Chromecast Ultras are artificially incompatible, naturally - and a shitty controller.

The top 20 is definitely not showing the best selling games that day. It never changes, and some games shown in the top 5 on the front page aren't even there. Perhaps the top 20 is best selling all time? That, or it has been manually put together by Epic.

As i might have mentioned, i use the EGS client to get Asshole Tim's free games, which happens to be the second best thing Epic offers with first being the entertainment his tweetidiocy provides.

Oh well. When it needs to update the games i have installed, it doesn't just update, it re-downloads them.

Also, this is the state of my EGS client AKA Just Another Launcher.

Sweeny: SEE! If the Epic Games Store never existed, ya'll would never have gotten Half-Life 3! You have ME, God Sweeny, to thank for Valve releasing this game!
I'm sure he'll tweet some cognitive dissonance that congratulates Valve on the game while bemoaning steam exclusivity - you know because 1st party exclusivity is bad, except when it's 3rd party and EGS or any other publisher doing so and he's never had a problem with it until now/now that EA is on Steam.

Does anyone have the link to that Google doc that was flying about listing all the things that are negative about Eggs?

My cousins kids were asking him why hes boycotted it and he wants to school them.

I'm finding it strange that we haven't heard anything about what will happen with Rocket League. I think it's not very likely that Epic will pull it from sale this year like they originally said that they wou.d
Pretty sure Epic is saving all announcements for the VGA. Probably lots of exclusives incoming as well.

Must be very interesting in EPIC strategy meetings at the moment. Im sure they cant be satisfied with the past year and how much backlash they have got with the eggsclusives. We dont have sales numbers but im willing to bet they are pretty shit, or at least no where near what they were expecting. The VGA will be the telling point - whether they continue with the same strategy or whether they back off a bit. I suspect they will continue being dicks for another year or two and then fade away and just become another store in this multi-store world.

We have been saying this for every single event this past year and it never happened. Maybe we give Sweeney more credit than he's due.
Perhaps. I hope so. :)

But I believe things have changed after the Ooblets outrage. It's very likely that Epic decided to communicate new exclusivity deals themselves to minimize the backlash towards the devs.

This year was not good for Epic Store and I am glad, The backlash, the botched Mega Sale, the technical problems, MS dropping everything on Steam, EGS exclusives on Gamepass, EA making a big deal about they return to Steam and now we are hours away from the reveal of a new Half-Life, Timmy will go big on the VGAs, he needs to, but I don´t think they will grab many noteworthy exclusives, my guess is that he will anouce that EGS will give free games the entirity of 2020.

I'm curious to see how Epic handles the next few months. Yesterday they announced they were extending Fortnite Season 11 and instead of ending on December 12th, it will now end on February 6th. This is a good thing because Epic actually giving their developers room to breathe instead of crunching them hard is ultimately a very good thing. Season 11 was only supposed to be 58 days long. Meaning with this 56 day delay they're losing a whole season of revenue from battle pass sales.

They also just released a mobile game named Battle Breakers (which is super generic and really mediocre) which doesn't seem like its doing too hot atm. Even though they just started a promotional crossover campaign with Fortnite so its way too early to judge it.

EGS' recent exclusives have also been getting really soft reception as well. Steam's releases are blowing EGS's exclusives out of the water in terms of popularity and reception.

my guess is that he will anouce that EGS will give free games the entirity of 2020.
To the surprise of nobody of course.

Kingdom Hearts 3 as EGSclusive.
If Kingdom Hearts 3 comes to PC and isnt EGS exclusive i'll be SHOCKED. At Epic's GDC panel a bunch of the KH3 team came out and shilled them super hardcore, it looked like they were being held at gunpoint with how heavy handed it was lol

I mean they must be very thankful to Epic because they can use Unreal 4, not shitshow engine called Luminous.

I love Kingdom Hearts but Kingdom Hearts 3 is a major disappointment. To think I waited for 10 years and bought PS4 Pro for it smh. And it can't even play at 1080p/60fps oh god.

KH3 was worth the wait for the gameplay but definitely not the story or Act 3 level design.

yeah, there's no way in hell they'll stop the "free" game bullshit this year ... they'll absolutely keep doing it next year

and you can see how desperate they are - they first started with one game every 2 weeks, then every week ... now it's basically 2 games per week (for the most part), so yeah ... they're DEFINITELY not stopping any time soon
