News Epic Games Store

Site still down.

Can't cost Epic Money if you can't claim your game (which I won't bc I've got two copies) and coupon (which I'm totally fucking in on).

Welp.

Has anyone ever found out what happened to that Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory game?

It's like it just vanished, and no one is acknowledging it's existence. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
Really, any details on what happened (rights issue, ...)?

There could've been a shit game clause that the licensor activated once the reviews came out? And after that maybe the publisher thought it wasn't worth investing their cash to make it better, so it just vanished into the ether.

Obviously only speculation, but it seems strange that a game would just up and disappear and no one wants to talk about it.

This GTA V giveaway just confirms to me that eggs are going to keep throwing money at the store to get user numbers up and they wont stop until its a success. So many people are redeeming the game (even though its pretty old and regularly on sale). I see the tired old 'its just a launcher' arguments again.

Makes me sad. Eggs is here to stay.
What good are user numbers if people are only coming for freebies and coupons?

it seems like no one even bothered to ask anyone :P

from all the gaming websites, i mean ... no one bothered to check (they sure did bother to let everyone know it went egsclusive, though ... because clicks)

Well, the game had vanished for a significant period of time before anyone noticed. That must be extra salt in the wound for the developers who worked hard on it, regardless of its final quality.

Imagine putting years of your life into making something, only for it to be pulled for mysterious reasons, and nobody even noticed for months?

Claimed my copy of GTA V, but already played it, so I won't bother installing it.

I always claim EGS freebies, even if I already own and have played the game on multiple other platforms.

I dont know. I reckon there are a lot of money men in the games industry who could just see 'epic has XXX million accounts' and thats enough to take a deal. Im sure (not sure, just speculating) that there are loads of people who operate in the games industry who have never actually played a game.

And then they'll see the year 1 numbers and regret they didn't go for 1~6 months instead.

The industry talks. If there's no money to be made on EGS then it'll be common knowledge in the right circles. Right now Epic is writing fat cheques, but that won't last forever.

It becomes an option in the minds of potential buyers. Mindshare.

Epic is playing the "distruption" model playbook. Is it gonna work? Eh, we'll see if its around in 10 years.

I may be more forgiving of the "exclusives" issue than many of you, simply because I consume big new releases on my PS4 and my computer hardware is limited. Control going to epic didn't effect my plans regarding how I would purchase the game.

I got the GTA redeemed, but the download is throttled to 6 mbit/s due "high demand in your region". Yikes...

Not sure if true leak, but I read these:
  1. May 21: Civilization VI
  2. May 28: Borderlands The Handsome Collection
  3. June 4: Ark Survival Evolved
Finally, the MEGA sale ends on June 11.
got a picture from a friend (supposedly from some spanish discord) that says the same

I was able to redeem GTA V from EGS.

What I would like to know is what is the best way to go about letting others play the game on the same computer. Does Rockstar Game Launcher have a multiple users option sort of a thing?

I have not used the family share feature on Steam before so I don't know how all of that works on the same computer either

Rockstar does´t have a way to share the game, and the game only has 1 profile for GTA: Online, Single Player can have multiple saves, but it has to be manual, auto save will overwrite everything, you better get multiple copies of the game.

That's the plan

Good offer but a month late for me. Bought a version of GTA that gave me some perks for the online from a key seller and played a bit with friends. Online is either a repetition of tasks or of cheaters so I had no fun with it, sp game is really good though.

I wish epic had these offers and no exclusivity and Sweeney assholeness and everything would be great.

I'm afraid this sale may break me with my first purchase.
I can't justify to myself spending twice as much on Observation when it launches on Steam at full price in just a couple of weeks for the same game 😕

Not today, Satan.

There is nothing that Sweeney can give me and nothing he can take away. I am incorruptible and untouchable.

Edit:

To clarify: this bo[UWSL]dy is but flesh and I am sure you will come for it too, you fucking jackal. [/UWSL]

[UWSL]And you may be able to take that from me, for I am but a man. But[/UWSL][UWSL] my soul is a flame that shall blaze eternal on a mountain of your pornography, a god damn lighthouse for those who would crash upon your jagged shores.[/UWSL]

[UWSL]Take it, Sweeney, I implore you to take it all. [/UWSL]

As things are going now, EGS won't be more than another Origin or Windows Store, that people only use for games they can't get elsewhere or for free and very cheap games.

The fact that Epic throws with coupons again right after the previous ones aren't valid anymore, may indicate that sales haven't been very hot on EGS in the past few months.

Just like other games, Observation will very likely be offered with a nice discount on Steam.

If you don't like Epic's money hatting tactics, best thing to do is not reward them for doing so by giving them your money.

The Devs mentioned on the steam forum it'll launch at full price, which is a big ooft imo
But you're right

Buying a game on EGS is money that ONLY goes to Epic, since the devs already got the money in the money hat and wont get anymore until sales go over the money hat which will not happen in the near future.

So might as well pirate the game, because either way you wont be supporting the devs.

I would still recommend that people don't pirate the games.

So let me get this straight: they are giving everyone a 10€ coupon (good for a 15€ or more purchase), and for each purchase they give... another 10€ coupon???

Wow, that is great.

One of the stores I use should totally do something similar. 😉
Your move, Valve. I certainly wouldn't mind...

It reminds me of a DVD retailer that had a similar, extremely generous, coupon policy. I built much of my early DVD collection buying from them, for next to nothing. They are no longer around. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

One of the arguments to be made is that if you pirate - which I can understand to a degree - then you have played the game and it is part of the general culture. You know of it.

If you don't, then it dies the worst fate a piece of entertainment can : obscurity. It's a very effective message to send and one every single studio fears.

It's the 3rd time in a row Epic is doing this. Coupons from the last time were valid until two weeks ago.

No doubt these coupons are giving them plenty of sales. But the fact that they are doing this again may indicate that these buyers don't use EGS without these huge discounts.

So you start with a €10 coupon and if you use it you get another?

So cheaper games are discounted more to attract people. Expansive games are discounted less to make money.

It's a normal ~17% (for all 60€ games) to ~65% (for all 15€ games) discount sale. But because you are getting coupons instead of "reduced by XX% stickers" people like it.

I'd rather support some other dev with a purchase than pirate a game but i get why people would turn to it and it sucks that it seems to be on the rise thanks to Epic.
Yeah. That's one of the things I don't fully understand regarding people's reaction to the EGS.

There are so many other games, and developers around.
A game is exclusive to the EGS, and you don't want to support it? Buy something else.

I still believe people spend too much time, and give too much free publicity, to the games that are turning to exclusivity, while not giving any time to other developers and games, who don't pull this crap.

Some of these games, if they weren't exclusive, most people wouldn't even talk about them.
I'm not talking about the big ones, of course. But a few of the indie titles, if they launched on Steam, probably no one would talk about them.

Why this fixation with shitty practices, and shitty developers/publishers?
Instead of spending my time focusing on these, getting irritated or making negative remarks, I much prefer to spend my time, and money, on any of the many titles launching daily elsewhere, who don't pull this crap.

Recently, this thread was on page 4 of the forums. It was a week or more since anyone posted on it.
And frequently, it's like that.
Then, a game is announced as exclusive, and there's pages of people complaining and complaining.
You know what: that's free publicity, and visibility, to these games. Don't give them what they want.

Why not support good practices instead?

I think it's a little unfair to point the thread being bumped as free publicity. This is also about point out bad practices, news - which games becoming exclusives are - and voicing arguments against them. If there's no voice against exclusivity practices, then there is a risk of it becoming normalized.

I don't know, I like complaining. I'm British.
