I wonder if they're going to eventually release on Steam, or just stick with Epic. I mean, once the exclusivity period is up, is there any good reason for them to forego Steam altogether?
Well there's this quote.
He believes Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human will perform well in the long term on the Epic Games Store as well because Quantic Dream’s titles are “long-sellers, so we know that new players will keep discovering our titles in the coming
If their expectations are wrong and the game's sales tank by the time the exclusivity deal ends, They'll definitely release on Steam. But I dont really see them staying full exclusive forever. Its leaving money on the table.

True. Why stick with one store if you're no longer being paid for the exclusivity when you could be making even more by releasing elsewhere? And there will be double-dippers over on Steam, especially if they add Steam achievements.

To be honest, I just want to play Heavy Rain again, but I refuse to touch the Epic Game's Launcher. I don't mind waiting another year for that, but if I never get to play it again, I won't lose any sleep over it either.

Why would they want to give Valve 30% cut. I mean, they only released games on PS4, where we know devs get 99.99% of each game sold, and now they begrudgingly tried EGS with their massive 12% cut.

Who knows what their expectations were? These are ports of PS3/4 games, so that makes a world of difference from releasing a new title.

Plus they will probably come to Steam at some point so the long burn of sales will also come from there.

Damn sad 😞

Epic's fire sale was a master move...
The WRC series are crap, but it's worrying that more and more AA and AAA games are going EGS exclusive.

I don’t make statements this inflammatory lightly, but given what he did to Ellen Page and the numerous accusations of sexual misconduct and assault flying around him and his studio, I genuinely believe the games industry would be a better place if he never had a career in it.

Also his games suck. Watching 2BFP lose their shit at androids unironically graffiti’ing “I Have A Dream” in buildings was a thing of glory.

Daedalic as well? Now that's a huge disappointment. 😞
well, i mean - we don't really know anything yet

but it IS weird ... especially since they only added that store page back in March

guess we'll see at gamescom

also - look what just changed release date 17h ago to 2020

(yes, it was shown during EpicGamer show at E3)

(could be just a coincidence, but ... ya know)

I had a quick look in the discord, pretty dead, but someone was asking about the release date of TBA 2019 and the dev said they should have changed it to TBA2020 a while ago and forgot, he/she then did it straight away.

the real question is - why they should have changed it? is it because epic approached them right after E3? or just a regular development delay?

It could still be something nefarious but it just looks like they are still very early alpha and the timing is a coincidence.

Though at some point steam is going to have to do something about these devs running their alphas/betas on steam while negotiating deals elsewhere. Satisfactory, Iron Harvest, Rune, Genesis Alpha One (Anyone remember this one?) and others have all pulled this trick. It's probably not in Valve's nature to require devs that use their services to run trials, garner interest etc... to release day and date with other stores, but it's getting pretty blatant at this point.

At this point I am starting to really think that reddit is either being astroturfed or trolled. The insanity of the arguments you can read on there is mind-boggling.

So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who is more motivated to sling shit at the Epic Store: gamers who are used to using a ton of different game launchers and stores already (and who get weekly free games from the Epic Store) or assholes making a living off stealing from game developers (and the cheap-skates who support them by using their websites to buy games). Having said that, I think it was the game key code resellers who started the ball rolling and the internet outrage machine took over pushing it for them.
All the while, misrepresenting and lying about the issues with EGS, "just another launcher" and so on. I can't really think of a reason other than someone reading off a script to be this malicious.

Genesis Alpha One (Anyone remember this one?)
no one does ... i doubt it even sold well on egs ... especially after the reviews were out

but yeah, volvo should probably do something about it ... but they also probably won't

r/games and r/gaming are both held hostage to corporate ball washing moderators. r/pcgaming is slightly better, slightly.

It's always been absurdly easy to sell Reddit accounts. At one point, a few years old account with a 3-15k karma could net you a couple hundred bucks (doubt that's the case anymore) if you sold them to an account broker in India/China/etc.

So yes, a significant number of the pro-corporate posts you see on Reddit are absolutely official astroturfing masquerading under bought accounts to make them see more grassroots. /r/movies is one of the subs where it's the most obvious if you ever want a glimpse of it.

But people are also really dumb and a lot of people genuinely believe what you see on Reddit in pro-EGS arguments.

No one in the A Year of Rain has any idea what happened. Sounds more like a screw up. The community manager is contacting their Steam contact to find out what happened, says it should be back up later today. Daedilic could have overridden it but it sounds like the community manager is part of the dev team having access to the steam contact etc...

Ever since they quietly cancelled the Devil's Men, Daedalic fell off my radar. They seem to have moved on from point and click adventure games now so if they went EGS exclusive I wouldn't even notice.

It seems that's probably not the case though, so that's good for people who like what they are doing now.

new game by ACE Team got Egged

I got worried when I read it but was relieved to find out that SEGA wasnt involved. Not sure why Epic would bother with ACE Team though. Their games aren’t hot sellers and the majority of them are really mediocre.

Because they arewere staunch Valve supporters, even using Source in their older games.
That's a PR Win.

Ace Team got a sucker in Tim Sweeney. Get that paper. I celebrate weird shit, so knowing they can keep the lights on for a while is cool.

Just don't release a statement calling me a names for not jumping to preorder.

edit: oh boo. It's published by someone else. They're probably going to get jack and shit for this deal

And it only took some wads of cash to make their "pro-consumer" mask devolve into another Timmy sellout.
at this point i can only assume devolver are going to Tim first with every single new game they're publishing - to ask if he'll throw some cash at them to not release it anywhere else ... and depending on his answer - that's how they determine if it'll release on steam or not

In regards to the small devs having their games being sold out by their publishers, it will be interesting, and worrisome for sure, to see what happens to them if the games don't sell well on egs. with how greedy publishers are in this day and age(not like they were never greedy), I wonder if they will take it out on the dev. the jaded part of me says yeah, they will.

almost definitely ... we do live under capitalism after all (unfortunately)
