What is this:
You may have heard of Epic [Mega] Games? Well they have their own digital storefront now, and it's divisive and it's got games. This thread is just a test to see if META can discuss the good and the bad in one place. Read on.

The Good:
Epic has a lot of money, like "Fuck you" money piled 0n top of a Scrooge McDuck money bin of "Fuck you" money. You can thank fortnite for that mainly, and of course licensing their Unreal engine to every corner of the Earth. The store was started (in theory) to provide devs a better cut of the sales pie than other stores, 88% of a sale to devs, 12% to Epic. We can't argue that this is a good thing in theory. More money for devs means more games for us.

Free Games. Oh boy do they have free games! Every few weeks, Epic spends some of that fuck you money to bring you, the gamer, a free game or two. Free as in free beer, but I digress. You've probably seen these else where cheap, but never free! All you need is an Epic account and you can enjoy some games on Epic's dime. You can build a pretty big catalogue off just these games.
Check out the current free titles here

Sales - Not as good as free, but damn can a $10 off coupon go a long way to make some games single digit prices. With their ever expanding regional pricing and occasionally useful payment method variety, you can snag some new titles for cheap.
Coupon info found here

The Bad:
Exclusives - Remember that 'fuck you money' from earlier? Well Epic didn't just build a store front, they also felt the best way to fill that storefront was to go to devs/publishers and buy timed exclusives. This wouldn't necessarily be bad if Epic was helping publish or pay for development at the beginning, but a lot of the titles were already launching elsewhere, were crowdfunded with promised keys to an EGS competitor/DRM free, and Epic isn't publishing them. This not only sets a negative precedent for PC gaming that even big publishers had moved away from. This has caused devs big and small to fight with their audience and it has screwed over those who have crowd funded some titles, and crowdfunding as a whole.
Exclusives aren't required to be on EGS, but having to wait 3-12 months (if not longer) for a title to come to a different platform that may be better suited to you, the gamer, is a pain.

The client/store - So, remember when Steam launched 16 years ago? Or when Origin or Uplay launched? How about Microsoft's latest frankenstein of a games store for pc?
Well, EGS is now, two years after launch known as much for having as many development roadmaps as it does QOL/basic features. It's not great, and should be held to a higher standard. It allows you to buy games, but not much else. Still doesn't have a functional cart. To quote the owner of an EGS competitor: These things, they take time!

Racism - while not a big issue here so much, there are circles on the internet that have taken their anger towards Epic and EGS and extrapolated Tencent's stock involvement into some kind of racist conspiracy that demeans the Chinese. Their government may be led by an evil Winnie the Pooh, but that doesn't excuse racism and it's terrible that this has occurred.

and The Sweeney

The man behind Epic, the Unreal Engine, and the EGS initiative. To say that he's more divisive than the store is an understatement.
He's often seen removing his foot from his mouth on twitter trying to do PR for the store or the latest exclusive, which he is not very good at, thus lodging his foot farther into his mouth.
A lot of the flack EGS has gotten is due to the rift created by the reality of the pc gaming world and the world Sweeney espouses for EGS. Yes he does great things with his Unreal Engine initiatives and educational funding, while simultaneously ignoring the cognitive dissonance of taking Apple to court over a walled garden.
The Rumble in the Tim Jungle can be found here

EGS And You
So why the new thread when we had one already? Well this is more OT-esque in layout, the other thread was just posted for the original announcement (and yes, MetaCouncil DOES predate EGS by several months, we didn't start as reaction). This thread is also to start fresh, 250 pages of anything, there is going to be animosity and built up tension for such a divisive place. This thread is for everyone- you don't like what Epic and EGS are doing, let us know why! Just buy a new game exclsuive to the store with that $10 coupon? Let us know how it is, some of us actually play the games we buy (*citation needed) and are always looking for new games.

I'll steal from and paraphrase Monooboe from the original thread : Don't criticize what other members do with the store and just concentrate on shitting on EGS itself. No one wants, deserves or needs a lecture on their purchasing habits, this is a gaming community [and anime harem] and we're mostly all adults, direct your anger where it belongs: the devs who take deals, Epic, and the store. Alternatively, shit on epic in the OGEGS thread and discuss the store and its deals/games here.

I wish Epic had more info on the game pages, I have a friend who don't find buying stuff on EGS a big deal (he only uses it for exclusive games and uses coupons), but he keeps asking me which game has controller support, which game has achievements, which game has cloud saves and so on.

Epic, pls make my life easier.

Are there any games that are still EGSclusive at this point besides WWZ? I feel like only Tripwire has stuck with it after their general period of time is up.

Ghostbusters Remastered (seems to be), Dangerous Driving (abandoned by devs, mediore game), Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures (abandoned by devs, shitty game), A Knight's Quest (seems abandoned) and Omen of Sorrow (devs said they had plans to bring it to Steam summer 2020, but nothing yet, playerbase died after a week or something).

Seems like Saber is selling games to platforms, not customers considering WWZ is only on EGS (moneyhatted by Epic) and Game Pass PC and Xbox (payed by MS).

There are many that aren't (yet) on Steam but fully exclusive as in no game pass or uplay or stadia or whatever far fewer I guess. Beaten I'm sure but yeah...

I dont think any of Tripwires exclusivity deals ended yet, and both Maneater and Chivalry II have been confirmed for Steam once the deals end.

I thought they had a game prior to both of those, my mistake. Hopefully Meaneater isn't jank when it does land elsewhere. It was the one initial game I wanted that got scooped up.

If I recall, they're giving away Ghostbusters this weekend, so I guess I can just wait that out and grab the remaster then (and play the original should I feel the urge from my dvd)

Yeah, that's what I plan on to do as well with Ghostbusters. Not a big deal if WWZ didn't come to Steam either as I got it for free on Epic, but of course not everyone have WWZ on Epic or sub to game pass so they should release it on Steam to gain even more players, but they seem too arrogant for that.

Do we have any current player numbers for WWZ? I recall it doing gangbusters and keeping them for a while, but Blands3 stole some of that thunder

The only thing we know is that WWZ sold 700k by june 2019 and then they gave it for free in march 2020.

Snowrunner sold around 400k a while ago.

Satisfactory had sold 958k copies I think it was after 15 months on Epic and 367k on Steam under 1 month.

Hades sold 700k in early access between EGS and Steam.

from what i read about the remasters, there is barely any remastering being done (outside of changed lighning system) , so you might be better off with the original if ou dont wat to wait for he freebiew

Ghostbusters is a pretty solid TPS. Played and finished the original back on console. Hope the people who grab it free will enjoy the game.

There is still no semblance of multiplayer in the remaster, right? Was one of the reason I had actually kinda looked forward to it, since the original on pc was sorely missing it

About the 10€ coupon, I am checking the games which might be worth using it on.

The search feature is really not handy:

I have to use GG.deals to sort through the deals, and I cannot find info about upcoming games (which would be released before Nov 1):

So far, I have listed these:
I think the most interesting games to me are Relicta and Naheulbeuk, but both are a bit too expensive for my liking.

I still have my coupon. I don't feel like spending money on more games for now, because I have awesome recently bought ones

Unrelated cool Halloween/Ghostbusters visuals:

man so out of blind curiousity (mostly to check how unremastered the Ghosbusters are) i ventured to check the store again , was greeted by the usual "too many login attempts" (at first login after like month ) and was positively surprised to see CZK currency there (given the reports of great regional prices at some regions).
The shock came after that by comparing these prices with EUR ones ....
How the fuck they managed to give us even worse prices than EUR in most cases

That’s right, the time for seasonal shopping is almost upon us, and what good is Black Friday without stellar savings? We’re not quite ready to reveal the deals - but c’mon, it’s two days away. You can wait.
Reads like "Yes, we know the Steam sale is happening on wednesday and that everyoner is waiting for that, but we exist too and we have a sale coming up the day after, I mean really pls don't use all your money on the Steam sale, leave something for us too, pretty please?"

Wonder if they'll have something special for the sale or just... sales.

My guess is 50% off for any game on your wishlist (e.g. Cyberpunk 2077...) for the first 10 minutes, and then CDPR removes their game from the store. 👌

Or some other price "error". :cruel:

Huh, had to actually check to see if this was that other Epic thread.

Reaction here to the sale is surprising considering that, for all its shortcomings, price is the single element Epic Store has consistently been competitive in.

This thread isn't just for Epic love-ins. We can sass them just as much

I have tried to play Elite Dangerous with Geforce Now. Impossible. Maybe I was just lucky with the timing.

:sweaty-blob:

I guess this is to prevent people from redeeming the game on Steam.
Paging madjoki.

I have tried with Geforce Now. I got an error message, and here is the explanation: there is no trick to get the game on Steam from Epic.

I was going to write a snarky comment about the featured games, but then I remembered this isn't that other thread.

It looks nice. Could do with some more games in the carousel though. But it's better than before in any case! :thumbsupblob:
